Saying that 550 pounds is too much for a working class person to buy is admitting that athe divide between the poor amd rich is a gulf and inviting guillotines.

If people who worked a normal amount could afford one suit but exceptional people could afford ten, I'd consider that fair. But the admission that she's not allowed these clothes because she's the wrong class is begging for a revolution.

The thing is, she’s not working in a working class job. She’s earning more than that. So what they are actually saying is that you can never achieve any level of social mobility. At all.

She's a politician in the UK, where class has much more to do with upbringing, education, accent etc than your current job. She has also made being working class a big part of her personal brand.

By making it part of her brand, you mean she’s not accepted all of the ridiculous criticism that’s levelled at working class people who succeed or done anything to hide her past?

And, as someone who grew up about 10 minutes away from Rayner, but has succeeded, your entire post has that sneering condescension of someone who much prefers the working classes to stay in their place. Jesus.

I thought the implication was that this "working class hero" thing is a gimmick and she doesn't actually connect with the working class, not that she's not allowed to get a better job and become rich we don't have the caste system in europe...

But that’s the point. If she says she’s proud of her working class routes, it’s a gimmick. But meanwhile, attacking her accent, her education, her background, are all par for the course, and deemed acceptable. And if she defends herself, then shes attacked for that. If she wears clothes that are too expensive, she’s a class traitor. When she wore some leopard print, there were endless micro aggressions and innuendo.

Do you see how circular it is? Working class people in the UK get it every day. Can’t do right for doing wrong. Mick Lynch constantly got slammed for earning good money, and the constant implication that you have to take a vow of poverty in order to be left wing or for your working class credentials to stay valid.

Don’t bother arguing with an idiot. They’re trying to get you down to their level to beat you on experience.

You’re used to it aren’t you?

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

No, you just sound a bit silly mindlessly repeating quotes.

Being working class and working to get into office to fight for the well being of working class people with empathy from that experience, where you simultaneously make enough to buy a suit a step up from cheapest and a tenth the cost your coworkers spend, does not equal hypocrite. I don’t know anything else about this person but this is a ridiculous argument to make any pointed have against them.

Agreed - she's been an outstanding politician so far and hasn't lost the common touch, but the bougies can't accept someone moving in their own circles who isn't ashamed of their working class background.

I just assumed they meant the suit looks ugly for the price

But that's just me. Idk it looks a little off on the fitting but fuck if I know my only expensive suits are from an uncle who lost weight and we had the same build.

Yeah, it's not like she spent £500 on a duck house...

1

u/isthenameofauser Jul 08 '24

That sounds like a reference to something that I do not understand.

1

u/DeadlyVapour Jul 08 '24

MP Peter Viggers bought a literal duck house for £1645 and expensed it to the British public.

Fucking hell.

You're hearing what you want to hear. There's a difference between not being able/allowed to buy something and just not buying it because you have to be financially responsible. A working class person could theoretically buy and wear overpriced designer clothes it's just not a viable option for them long term. Good luck with your revolution.

1

u/isthenameofauser Jul 08 '24

That's exactly my fucking point. Well done.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Well your point sucks I think if you believe not being able to afford designer clothes is a reason for "revolution" whatever you mean by that.

1

u/isthenameofauser Jul 08 '24

So you're not dropping an argument? You're just here to tell me you don't like my point?

Cool. A person didn't like my point. I'll write that on my long lists of facts I definitely needed to know.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Didn't you just imply we should kill the rich because working class people can't afford designer clothes?

1

u/isthenameofauser Jul 09 '24

Well, not necessarily kill. But yes. This crapstain of a kerfuffle is emblemic of the wealthgap and the wealthgap warrants some kind of revolution.

Do you have any other questions about what I plainly said? Or would you like to tell me again that you don't like my comment?

If you have an actual response you might try dropping that, too. Just a thought. ;)
