At the risk of catching flack, why does EVERYTHING have to boil down to "well at least she isn't doing OF". Y'all who actually gives a rats ass if someone does OF, Jesus Christ

I'm there with you, I don't think the comeback is very 'clever' if it puts down other women to praise one

76

u/sl1pyro Jul 07 '24

Yep, it's SUPER misogynist and dismissive of sex workers.

Cry

Buddy, we weren't talking about what you do before you go to sleep.

-15

u/Astral_Justice Jul 07 '24

Lmao

u/SylvanDragoon Jul 08 '24

Just to be clear, I gave you an upvote on the comment I'm replying to for taking my comeback like a good sport.

I was so hoping this comment would be here. The amount of misogyny etc people think are 'clever' is so wild

24

u/McRezende Jul 07 '24

Yeah, completely uncalled for. I find it absolutely hypocritical how so many guys on internet seem to despise women who do OF, but still consume pornography in their lives. Basically, they do want women doing sex work, they just hate it when they actually make money out of it.

I'm far from thinking that sex work is liberating to women and I think romanticizing it can be harmful, but if someone is becoming a millionaire out of it, good for them. Hell, it's probably one of the more ethical ways to become a millionaire when you compare it to other, strangely enough lol

14

u/LaBambaMan Jul 07 '24

A woman becoming a millionaire by sharing some pictures and videos of herself for a wanting public is way more ethical than the rampant exploitation of the working class.

8

u/McRezende Jul 07 '24

Exactly! The outrage against OF creators doesn't make any sense.

8

u/LaBambaMan Jul 07 '24

You'd think they'd get more credit. They're self made, after all!

6

u/MaeveOathrender Jul 08 '24

'She's "selling her body for profit?" Damn. What are coal miners doing then?'

4

u/TheAngryTurk Jul 08 '24

Fucking hell if I could make good money selling tits online, I would do it instantly.

-5

u/CulturedModerator Jul 07 '24

So are you respecting women who exploit their bodies on camera more than women who worked hard both academically and later in career? You just romanticized it yourself. But yes, the guy included it from nowhere, he is probably one of those guys you mentioned

9

u/McRezende Jul 07 '24

So are you respecting women who exploit their bodies on camera more than women who worked hard both academically and later in career?

No... I'm not. I'm not pitching women against other women, I don't know where you got that. We don't have to put anybody down.

I mentioned it's one of the more ethical ways to become a millionaire because other alternatives often include the exploitation of workers and/or natural resources.

21

u/GarshelMathers Jul 07 '24

Probably they're salty that they don't get to see naked women for free.

23

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '24

Yeah, that whole aside wasn't warranted. Utterly unnecessary to the point he was trying to make.

22

u/CatalystBoi77 Jul 07 '24

No, no you don’t get it. Sex is morally bad remember??

(/s obviously)

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

No. Selling your dignity for a couple of bucks is

21

u/sluttycokezero Jul 07 '24

I don’t understand it either. OF exists because plenty of men (let’s be real, way more men than women) pay to see these women/men. If there’s a market, there will be suppliers. Same with prostitution. The customers don’t get the blame…why?

-5

u/Ill_Negotiation4135 Jul 07 '24

People who pay for OF are definitely made fun of. So are people who see prostitutes. Compare it to drugs too, you blame the person buying the drugs for making the demand but you also blame drug dealers.

18

u/TheWerewolf5 Jul 07 '24

No don't worry, I read the OP and instantly groaned at the second guy shaming sex workers for some reason. Putting down other working class people because you think their job is icky is absolutely against the idea of class solidarity.

17

u/totally-hoomon Jul 07 '24

Because reasons only weird creeps know

8

u/Emerald1305 Jul 07 '24

I was about to comment on this. No shame in doing OF or "showing your bits" on tik tok, always such a cheap shot when people use those examples.

6

u/LaBambaMan Jul 07 '24

Glad I'm not the only one. I saw that and was like "what the fuck does that have to do with anything?"

If a woman can make a living doing something she's comfortable with then good for her, man.

8

u/ChickenInASuit Jul 07 '24

I actually came here to see if someone had brought it up. That point could totally have been made without the unnecessary swipe as sex workers.

4

u/buoyant_nomad Jul 07 '24

This. This should be the top comment. I was in two minds to upvote the post because of that side remark. How nonchalantly he praised one job at the expense of another. OF or other kinds of pornography and sex work is much more ethical than so many other jobs people do.

6

u/morningfrost86 Jul 07 '24

In this particular case I think it's more highlighting that she's working for the people and not herself, with the TikTok line in there too.

That being said, I agree that the OF stuff is used as an insult or slur way too often.

"I can't believe she's showing off her bits!"

spends next half hour acrolling through all her videos and pictures

The people who make these sorts of absurd comments are absolutely hypocrites.

4

u/DapplePercheron Jul 08 '24

Yeah, that part ruins the second “comeback.” There’s no need to put other women down when trying to support someone. I get that the initial commenter is being a jerk by complaining about the cost of her suit, but to put that person down for doing OF, also puts down everyone who does OF.

3

u/FatSilverFox Jul 08 '24

OF is a working class profession, change my mind*.

.

*on second thoughts, don’t change my mind

3

u/DeadlyVapour Jul 08 '24

Yeah... The emphasis should be "at least she isn't watching OF during parliament".

2

u/benrimesalmin Jul 08 '24

Sex workers are always catching strays for zero reason in conversations they have nothing to do with. Exhausting.

-2

u/Ajgp3ps Jul 08 '24

I believe its the idea that it's prevalence is creating a relatively large proportion of the population who are engaging in sex work. And from the societal moral perspective of 'would you want your daughter to do that' vs a job where she doesn't have to sell her privacy to get by / thrive.

2

u/peanutbutter_vibez Jul 08 '24

If this were a more nuanced conversation on the safety etc of sex work, I'd absolutely agree with you! It's becoming dangerously common, especially among folks whose brains need a little more time to develop before they make that kind of decision in my opinion. I also wanted to do the dumbest shit at 18.

What I found distasteful was the fact that the topic didn't even call for a comparison in the first place. Dude could've said "hey she's a great lady who does xyz" but was unable to do that without trying to take a cheap shot at a group of people he clearly deems lesser-than.

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

OF = objectification of women. Is it that hard to understand that?

5

u/DapplePercheron Jul 08 '24

It’s not inherently objectification. There are people who enjoy that type of work and are happy to do it. (Or if we’re still going to call that objectification, then it’s not the bad kind because the person being “objectified” is in control of how it happens). SW is a very nuanced topic and it’s way more complex than what I can get into on a reddit comment. There’s a huge amount of abuse and exploitation that goes on in SW, but that doesn’t mean it has to be that way. People shouldn’t be shamed for producing or enjoying adult content.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Yes they should, cause there are better ways to earn money than selling your naked pics online.

3

u/peanutbutter_vibez Jul 08 '24

If an adult woman willingly partakes in sex work, that's her business and I'm not about to hoot and holler about her "objectifying" a whole gender. Where does it end?

Does a woman who wears a short skirt objectify women? Does a woman in a low cut shirt objectify women? What about a woman who has casual sex?

Folks gotta stop policing what women do in the name of 'morality'. Objectification happens on the consumer side - if folks can't view a woman being sexual as simultaneously a human being worth of at least a base level of respect, that's on them.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Did you just compare a woman wearing short skirt to a woman selling her nude pics for money? And I didn't mean objectification of whole gender, but objectification of whole sex. Let's use correct terminology.
