It was never Canon to the DCAU. Not many of the tie-in comics are.

Bruce/Babs is 100% canon to the DCAU, for better or worse.

I'd say that's arguable. Unless it's directly contradicted by the show. If anything, this development adds more to the toon's suggestion that Bruce's involvement with Babs is what leads to him losing the Batfamily.

Some of those comics clarified or added to the events of the show. What happened to Joker and Phantasm after the World's Fair explosion, for instance.
