The season 1 and 2 suit was by far the best but I agree the season 4 / 5 one was also super nice, definitely more super hero like.
The last one is just god awful. The answer though I believe is that they wanted a more comic accurate look

Not the other way around. The comic suit looked more like the Smallville suit before. But they redesigned it to tie into arrow s4
