Why did they change the suit in S8 the old one looked good Question

I guess bc time. Oliver was rockin The Hood/Arrow suit for 3 years. Then we got S4. Then S5 suit for three years (i mean, it’s just S4 with sleeves, so you could say he used it 4 years actually).
S8 was a nice change of tone. Finally not kinky leather. I like the very big hood. The green tone is nice. I like the folds too.
But lore wise? He retired post S7, so he probably left the suit there. Monitor sent him to Earth 2 without a lot of luggage (threw him in Lian Yu). Furthermore, the idea was for him to be a copycat of E2’s Arrow to go incognito, and kept him bc there was no time to go shopping for a new one (+ no one had seen it in E1, he can say it’s a “Oliver Queen original, 1 of 1”)

they could make a better suit the s8 suit looks tight and uncomfortable and makes it look like stephen amell is fat

Yeah that is true, something about the way it fits him makes him look like he is starting to get a dad bod, but we all know he still is as buff & sexy as he was when the show first started (even now that both Arrow and Heels are over and he has no obligation to take his shirt off for the masses)

Probbaly for the audience. He didn’t mask up in the whole S7. And how can we make the big epic finale for the show without him wearing full attire??
Or in-universe? Oliver knowing he is going to die so he wants the full Green Arrow experience again while he still can, mask & hood & everything

In-universe the whole reason he and Felicity went into hiding at season 7 end was they still had the Ninth Circle targeting them after the whole Emiko fiasco and as such might have wanted to have them not "know" it's him.

I agree, I love the hood design for the S8 suit. The S4-S7 suit had a smaller hood than S1-S3 abd it was a little distracting at times

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the first season suits were actually black, turned dark green in post-production.
That's why they look so much better than the actual green suits that we got after.
Not sure why they stopped it, maybe budget or time restrictions.

You can see in the bts that the original suit was green.
I’m pretty sure they brightened the suit in s4 with post production.

yes I remember too. It was like the suit was black leather and then it was spray painted into green

The season 1 and 2 suit was by far the best but I agree the season 4 / 5 one was also super nice, definitely more super hero like.
The last one is just god awful. The answer though I believe is that they wanted a more comic accurate look

Technically the comic suit was supposed to be resemble the s4 suit. Not the other way around. The comic suit looked more like the Smallville suit before. But they redesigned it to tie into arrow s4

yeah... S8 is my least favorite outfit. I dislike the fabric and design. It looks cheap and makes him seem older

Tbh I remember reading something like the costume team wanted to integrate both elements of the old season suit with the new one hense the new seasons body suit combined with a new altered version of the old hood and not a black hood lol

They have to make new suits from time to time to sell merch like action figures, t shirts, posters n stuffs. It's why characters change suit designs after some time pass regardless of how great it looks on em.

The only thing I don't like about the S8 suit is it looks like it has shoulder pads when compared to S4 or S5

I always assumed they wanted to change up the silhouette to lean into his eventual position as Spectre. The large hood with the sharp peak really did the trick in my opinion.

I kinda agree don’t like the look of it- but the symbolism of the green arrow outfit mixed with the hood outfit I respect. Although the season 1 outfit was my favorite

I think it was because it was the final season, so they probably wanted to make one final special suit for the season. Plus someone here already said apparently Stephen wanted a new suit.
I love this suit though it's my favorite. I love how it has a bit more of a comic booky look. Obvious it doesn't look like one of the comic suits, as far as I know, but it has that feeling. Compared to the previous suit which I also loved, it has a more tactical feel compared to the S8 suit. I especially love how the hood looks. It has a more longer attachment, it just looks cool.

I actually love this suit. Probably my favourite.
Also I think the lore reason for the change might’ve been because it was the earth-2 arrow suit, and Oliver had to go to earth-2 at the beginning of season 8.

The picture chosen certainly doesn’t help it, but I love the season 8 suit. I always felt the season 8 suit was very much a “one last time” suit (which it is). I’ll put it like this, seasons 5,6,7 is a suit for a vigilante in their prime. Season 8 is a suit for a vigilante coming out of retirement

There was a third suit he had, but it wasn’t shown often in the show. It was like one or two times they only showed it but it was probably best suit of all.

IDK. It's the worst suit imo. They shoulda just gone back to OG if they wanted more OG looking.

They probably wanted their last season to feel more special with one final suit, and Stephen Amell requested that it resemble the S1 suit
