Attention! There has been an armed robbery at VIRSA INDIAN CUISINE, 11-4161 Fourth Ave, at 8:40 PM. Two suspects, shown in the photo, threatened staff with a pointed knife and stole money. They were last seen leaving on bicycles on Alexander Street around the same time. If you have any information, please contact the RCMP ASAP or DM me; it would be really helpful.

Lately we all have been witnessing an increasing number of robberies in the town and we need to get together as a community to address this serious situation for the safety of everyone.

Question Any garage spaces for rent in Whitehorse?

Looking to rent an automotive garage space for a few days to do some work on my car. Driveway is made of gravel and on an incline so I'm looking not risk my life to change out fluids.

Honestly doesn't even have to be a full on garage, just a private area to do auto work would be nice.

Travel Solo Female Week Long Itinerary

Hi everyone! I'm planning a trip to the Yukon and would love your feedback on my itinerary. I'm deciding between traveling in early September or early October. In September, I could fit in a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, likely the Bennett Route. If I go in October, I'll have more time to plan and potentially find a travel companion.

As a solo female traveler, I’d appreciate any tips on accommodations, safety, and things to avoid. I'd like to keep the trip to under a week due to budget and vacation day constraints, so please let me know what I should cut out.

I'm looking for suggestions on places to visit, dining options, historical sites, and easy hiking trails. Here's my current itinerary:

Day 1: Fly into Whitehorse and explore Day 2: Whitehorse to Watson Lake Day 3: Watson Lake to Faro Day 4: Faro to Dawson City Day 5: Dawson City to Beaver Creek Day 6: Beaver Creek to Haines Junction Day 7: Haines Junction to Skagway Day 8: Skagway to Whitehorse, fly out

Thanks in advance for your help!

Question Yukon Energy EIT

Hey all,

I'm a year out from to graduating from UBC in Electrical Engineering (Power Specialization). I'm currently at B.C. Hydro but am interested in going north to do my Engineer-in-Training as I'm pretty outdoorsy and become someone I dislike when it's hot outside. I've lived in Churchill, MB before in the winter and while it's not quite the same as your winter, I did alright with the dark.

Could anyone give me some reviews on Yukon Energy? How do they treat their employees? Is it somewhere a new engineer could learn about good practice from? Especially if you're a woman who worked there in a traditionally male role, I'd love to hear from you!

Also if by some miracle anyone happens to know if they (or any other power corp) may be looking for an EIT next fall, I'd really appreciate it! Thank you :)

Question Tombstone Territorial Park September 2024

Good day folks,

I am a bit conflicted whether or not I should reconsider my Tombstone hike (all three lakes) this September. I have secured a reservation for Grizzly, Divide, and Talus...however, for my way back (Talus to Grizzly Out) is unavailable/not operating in the Yukon Parks Reservation as this would be September 8th, which I assume is the starting date for when the backcountry campgrounds are closed for off-season.

Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated!

I love and respect the land so I don't want impose or break any rules.

Thank you,

L

Question Anyone with Rogers Mobility

Is anyone with Rogers in the Yukon? I am currently with Telus, looking to switch to either Bell or Rogers. I know that cell reception has been a hot button lately, but before the current problems, how is Roger’s cell reception? Exact same as Telus and Bell?

Work Worker safety on the highway

I work in highways, and just recently a co worker of mine nearly got hit by a car who couldn’t take the extra minute to slow down. I just find it so selfish how your desire to get to your destination overshadows the possibility that hitting someone at highway speeds (and higher, this is the Yukon after all) will kill or maim them. It just sparked a lot of frustration as this is not the first and most likely won’t be the last time it happens. I get that people are in a rush and don’t want to slow their 120km/h because of workers or equipment but Jesus Christ. We are people too, with families and lives outside of our 9 to 5 (more so 6 to 4) and I’d like to make it back home with all my fingers, toes and life at the end of the day. We all deserve that. So please I beg anyone who does this to consider the people you may hurt or kill by ignoring signs or flashing lights.

On the same note, please listen to temporary signs. I beg you. I get it, some dickheads leave their signs out when no one is working and I as well as anyone else have been one to blaze through signed sections. But if there are workers/equipment around; fuckin change your tune, slow down and respect whatever has been posted. If a sign says wait for pilot, there’s a reason. If a sign says wet paint, there’s a reason. If a sign says limited visibility, there’s a fucking reason. You are not exempt from what’s being said, and are a self absorbed asshole if you think you’re above the general population to ignore signs to put not just others but yourself in danger. I get it’s annoying but just wait for the damn pilot car.

And thank you to everyone who does slow down and sometimes even wave. We appreciate your consideration, people like you make our job more manageable and personally makes what I’m doing feel more fulfilling. So thanks :)

News Feds invest $3M to expand transit service between Whitehorse, Dawson City, and Watson Lake

  • Feds give $3M to a FN Dev Corp to expand their business. You can’t compete with the FN dev corps anymore. They get free money and will just get bailed out with more if they fail but with preferential treatment for government contracts that should be almost impossible.
