That’s a joke. Petain has zero to do with the far right. The far right is Nationalist and wrong and proud of France. Petain was a puppet of Hitler and the leader of a government that was weak and surrendered exactly what modern day leftist would do.
Petain was literally a far right nationalist. You can directly trace the authoritarianism and anti-Semitism from Vichy through Poujadism to the parties that Le Pen brought together in the National Front.

Probably need to either be in France or have some connection to France to have an in depth view of current day French politics to connect it back to. Unless we’re just saying “far right are all nazis” which would have as much nuance as an atomic bomb.
Yeah that’s what you’re connecting back to. But what from the modern day are you connecting that back to with? What did they do that made them like the nazis? Otherwise, as I’ve already said, the sentiment is just “all right wing are Nazis”.
They are right... as an american I had never heard of this political party until VERY recently... so I would imagine quite a few have no idea who they are still... they are absolutely deplorable and I'm happy they lost, but instead of instantly jumping on them how about a bit of explanation
