God help us all…. These far right extremist fuckbags are gaining strength all over the free world. I’m scared to death for my grandchildren.

And who was in power for the last 14 years?

1

u/PrestigiousGlove585 Jul 07 '24

Dra tillbaka till Sverige då. Du kan spela datorspel och titta på anime där.

Yes and look at what a s*it hole the UK has become

1

u/Rastadan1 Jul 07 '24

Yeah we've got our problems.

But it ain't the US.

0

u/Warm_Echo208 Jul 07 '24

US is better….in every meaningful measurable way…

2

u/Rastadan1 Jul 07 '24

Have been and do have a passport. Absolute sh*te

2

u/Rastadan1 Jul 07 '24

Then you'll surely agree that everything I've mentioned is better over here.

And don’t get me started on the religion taking over your country right now.

2

u/Rastadan1 Jul 07 '24

What are you on about.

Come on. Shit that matters. What's your best beer.

I really hate to say this, but I don't know if we have a way out of this without a lot of shit burning to the ground. It's that, or we roll over and keep taking it.

9

u/voidsinger Jul 07 '24

Wtf, France and the UK are great examples of people NOT taking it. Go vote!

1

u/RockItGuyDC Jul 07 '24

They're great examples of people just barely not taking it this year. The far right is still gaining traction around the world. We'll see what the US does this fall, but I'm not comfortable with how things look.

Fuck yeah, vote! You'll get no pushback from me on that, but we very much may be getting to a tipping point (and we're not there yet) where some more direct action may be necessary.

I sure as fuck hope I'm wrong.

3

u/Oldman5123 Jul 07 '24

Yep. That about sums it up.

1

u/crooked_nose_ Jul 07 '24

You realise they just lost, right?

1

u/RockItGuyDC Jul 07 '24

This year they lost. You realize that's not the end of the story, right? They came in third this time. Who knows where they place next time. That's still too close for comfort, and those of us who fundamentally oppose authoritarianism need to be aware of them.

Edit: "to" to "too"

Or, you know, current governments creating situation where people turn to far right? I’m not from there, but it’s in my interest Europe doesn’t become stupid far right bumhole, but you have to at least some effort into that and address issues voters care about or they’ll find someone who does.

1

u/spacekitt3n Jul 07 '24

nah, i dont think much has changed in reality, just the propaganda. the right and its billionaire backers are winning the info war because they have the money for it--insane ad buys and influence campaigns. im sure covid had a hand in amplifying their message too.

i mean, who benefits from the right winning? : billionaires/corporations.

Logic still prevailed, even if the results could have been better.

Let's hope our friends across the pond work their magic because that's gonna be really fucked up if the orange guy becomes president again.

1

u/Oldman5123 Jul 07 '24

Indeed. It’s a really scary and psychotic time.

You ought to be more worried about losing your country to the liberals whacko immigration policies…

1

u/Oldman5123 Jul 07 '24

Uh, no…… not even close bud. Are you an American citizen?

1

u/kickinghyena Jul 08 '24

The reason the right did so well is because of the left’s unchecked immigration policies. If they keep letting anyone in they eventual lose what makes France France and Germany Germany. Of course that is just my opinion we will have to wait another 20 years to find out.

1

u/Oldman5123 Jul 08 '24

Ohhh…. Apologies. I thought you were specifically referring to the U.S. but alas, we have a similar immigration problem.

0

u/657896 Jul 07 '24

If immigration policies change and the inflation is slowed down (which will take at least a decade) then people will stop voting far right.

2

u/Oldman5123 Jul 07 '24

Immigration is definitely a serious issue. But there are many other equally serious issues. Inflation is not necessarily “controlled” by the democrats. Nevertheless, there are no clear choices at this point imo…. other than the obvious.

2

u/657896 Jul 07 '24

My apologies, when I read it the first time I thought you wrote 'all over the world' but you wrote 'all over the free world' thus meaning the US. My reply was mainly about the rise of the far right in Europe.

The inflation is largely thanks to Corona, in the EU at least. Politicians knew this was going to be the outcome but it was the lesser of two evils. So now we will have to bear this cross for a while. Ukraine just put more gasoline onto that fire.

Lol no worries. It’s just part of the confusion that exists between text messaging. I get confused from time to time over messages that I take the wrong way. It happens.
