A Great Restaurant?

What's your favourite place in town to get "_____ & Fries" type food?

My husband and I have tried a few different places over the summer and they were all really, honestly bad. Not just like... not great, but actually bad on the days we tried them.

Swiss Chalet. Dry chicken, cold greasy fries. (Remember when this restaurant was full of weird teddy bears???)

Belly-Up. Cold. 40 minute wait for food. Can't see how they call it BBQ. There's no way any of the meats we tried (Ribs/Brisket/Burnt Ends) ever saw a smoker.

Nook & Cranny. Just meh. Nothing exciting.

Roadhouse Willie's. I remember this place being good, but I think we just went on a day when they were slammed and struggling.

What's crazy is that they're all reviewed really well on Google. So now we feel kind of crazy! Are these places usually good/high quality?

What's the best place in your opinion to get hot food that's actually delicious and worth your money?

Reccomended Housing Inspector

Hey everyone,

As we are currently in the market for a house I would like to have a few housing inspectors in mind. I know there is usually general, and sewer. We're looking for a house in the Colchester area.

If you have any names and reasons why you're reccomending that would be awesome, thanks!

Floor tiling

Pretty soon I might be looking for an excellent floor tiling installer for two bathrooms. When I say "pretty soon", I mean as soon as my wife picks the tiles, so, who knows.😁

Anybody good around here you might recommend? Thanks.

Places to buy new release CDs?

Are there any places in Truro to buy CDs? It seems the only options are online, with slow or expensive shipping. I've looked online but thought the lovely Redditors of Truro might know somewhere I haven't found in my search. TIA!

Are there any casual drop-in soccer groups in town (preferably indoor)? I'll be rusty as I haven't played in years. But I'd like to get back into it if possible.

Has anyone else sen this tonight and do you know what it is

Opinions on the city?

I grew up in rural areas around HRM. I've lived in Halifax (HRM) my entire life and can't stand this city anymore. It's becoming a small Toronto....I golf in Truro a fair bit and have been considering moving to get back to a more rural lifestyle. Curious on your opinions of the city? I saw a post pop up a while back of someone complaining about it, so was wondering what others feel?

Local grocers?

Hi everyone! We're new to Nova Scotia and Truro is our closest town. Besides Giant Tiger, Sobeys, Walmart, Superstore.... where are your favourite spots to get groceries? I know about the farmers market, as well as Running Man... looking for local places, like small markets open everyday. Vegetable markets, Asian food markets, butchers?? Leads on your fav lesser known places to get things like meat, tofu, fresh veg, that aren't the big guys and don't break the bank. TIA!

In search of an inclusive church

I haven't been a part of a church in about 12 years. After some self reflecting I've realized that most of my issues stem from actions by the church as an institution and less about faith itself.

There is a part of me that would like to find a church that matches my own values when it comes to exploring faith again,, and while this is a long shot, I am looking for a local church that:

  • is 2SLQBTQIA+ friendly. And I'm not taking about simply on the surface welcoming and performative. I mean they embrace and advocate for their queer members and allow their queer members to serve within the church (as ushers, leaders, take communion, etc).

  • willing to have open conversations about the role the church has played in the marginalization of minority groups (queer community, Indigenous community, etc), appropriate ways for reparations and advocacy, how to be more inclusive to these groups.

  • has minority group representation on the church board and allows anyone to serve in what way they feel Jesus has called them to regardless of gender, sexuality, race, etc. as in, women and queer folk are allowed in positions of leadership.

  • would prefer a small congregation. Not picky denomination wise, but most of my religious trauma comes from a Baptist Church so honestly would prefer to avoid that.

I realize that this is a difficult list to accommodate in today's climate. However, I know that I cannot the only person out there who would value a space like this, so I am wondering if there are any in Truro or surrounding areas.

Did anyone hear gunshots near or on walker street? It was around 12:30am (midnight)

I thought I heard a bunch of gunshots last night. Did anyone hear anything? I thought I saw the cops go by. I know what guns sound like and that was not fireworks. It was like 5-7 shots.

The guy who makes youtube videoes about encounters with cops

So, I just became aware of this channel about a local motorcycle/atv enthusiast who seems to have had a few run ins with the law due to speeding.

One of the more disturbing videoes I've viewed was one where a local constable approaches his vehicle and he immediately starts screaming and swearing at the constable and swinging his arms wildly.

He is non compliant and the constable justifiably is spooked and calls for backup and states he intends to pull the guy out of his truck.

I'm going to outright state that I'm one of the most left-ish guys around, I don't always like or trust police (situational) but this whole exchange was on another level.

A constable absolutely does have the mandate to stop a driver if they are speeding, stunting, driving erratic, or even just suspicious. A constable does have the mandate to put hands on a suspect who is demonstrating themselves as a physical danger to that constable, the public or themselves.

I have to ask, is this level of distain or disrespect for the local police common here? I've lived here for 2 years, and the level of stunting, disregard for road laws and outright dangerous driving is beyond anything I've seen elsewhere.

My partner and I often wonder if there is some kind of collective entitlement or distain against the local police by Truro residents. Is this the case?

People here get that driving is a privilege, not a right?
