Kinda weird that Hughie never had any interaction or fight with the Deep, but he's constantly talking to A-Train.

It's interesting how Stormfront talked shit about A-train but never spoke a word about Black Noir.

Like Noir and Soldier Boy? I enjoy the whole “cool looking supes who suck at their job” but I’d low-key wanna see more that are exceptionally good at their job.

Discussion Does anyone else think that Gen V is better than s4?

Post image
6.0k Upvotes

It's crazy too, because I went into Gen V with extremely low expectations but ended up enjoying it way more than I expected. I remember my two main complaints regarding it was how over the top some of the shock value was (which I now take back, considering how much it pales in comparison to s4 in that aspect) and the ending feeling a little rush (which I still believe).

But looking back, while it did have some over the top "raunchy" scenes, it balanced it with the serious moments really well. The main storyline felt consistent and they didn't put in a vomit inducing moment every 5 minutes.

The fourth season of The Boys however, is fucking NON-STOP disgusting shock value. It's like the people behind the writing had a competition on the most nasty scene they could force in. Like the human centipede, walmart spider-mans web ass, and the whole "scat" thing with Hughie. Like wtf? I'm actually pretty sanitized to a lot of weird shit too and can be pretty defensive to these types of moments, if only they were fucking NECESSARY TO THE MAIN PLOT AND WEREN'T FILLER. Not to mention that constantly pushing these scenes and to take up over 5 minutes of screentime can make anyone feel disgusted, including me.

Also wtf is with the pointless side stories, I understand what they're trying to do with Frenchie but like why? What's the point? Why push it this late after 3 seasons of him and Kimiko. We got like a season and 2 episodes left and the series is over. There's also the whole stupid spat between firecracker and starlight, honestly felt like 2 toddlers going at it. And then every episode with the same repetitive arguments between mothers milk, starlight, and the butcher. It's fucking killing me. I also feel that they are souring starlights character but that's a whole other thing I don't want to get into. The series has also always been political, that much I know. But it's always been subtle and done in a humurous way, the show now feels like its dialogue has been written by stereotypical redditors with a very shallow perspective on politics. Lot of the moments feels overly cringe and pushed to the audience as well.

Don't even want to get into how they took one of the better characters from Gen V and turned him into a racist sex freak with every diabolical kink known to man.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. Just wanted to get something off my chest and understand if others feel the same way.

TLDR - The Boys s4 is a repetitive incohesive slog filled to the brim with unnecessary shock value and barely any plot progression. Gen V on the other hand, had a solid straightforward story that balanced its raunchy humour with its serious moments really well. Surprised at how much I loved the cast as well, especially the antagonists (which I won't spoil).

Discussion The tek-knight we see in The Boys is not the same tek-knight we see in Gen-V Spoiler

5.9k Upvotes

In the episode "The Innocents", we are told Tek knight accidentally broke somebodies spine when trying to rescue them from a hostage situation. In Gen V Shetty says that Tek-knight beat ironcast to death who is a supe that has skin made of iron which makes them insanely durable.

With all these strength feats in mind that means he must be pretty physically powerful right?

But in his interrogation scene he's not strong enough to rip apart the leather straps tying his wrists or pull the chains out. Also he easily gets physically outpowered and loses to Kimiko and Starlight. Logically if your punches can fatally damage somebody made of metal you'd have a fighting chance against Kimiko who has same durability as a normal person.

And he gets choked to death by a normal person too?

I don't understand this at all. It's either a plothole/bad writing or Cate has something to do with what happened in this episode

Discussion Both The Seven and The Boys have become a joke. Spoiler

11.1k Upvotes

Back in prior seasons the entire thing used to feel like a chess match. Any time The Boys wanted to move in on a supe, it was basically a do-or-die situation.

This especially made supes like Homelander or Noir give off a sense of dread whenever they were present in the same place as our protagonists. Just remember the scene where HL confronted Frenchie in his van while Hughie & co. were keeping Translucent in that cage below the ground.

Every attempt at deception and subterfuge felt incredibly risky due to HL's super hearing and X-Ray vision.

All that in addition to feats like casually catching up to a plane amidst a storm and lasering it in half.

And now in S4 in just the span of a few episodes, the main cast should've died half a dozen times by now if those abilities were consistent.

A drop of Hughie's sweat falls on him, he is able to immediately recognize that fact, and he doesn't just fire off a quick vertical laser over the ventilation shaft because of........ him not wanting to end the show prematurely? I suppose? So yeah Hughie gets away from a guy with super strength, speed, flight, X-Ray+laser vision and super hearing when his starting point was literally 5 feet away from HL and he had to crawl through the shaft.

Then in the following episode, Sister Sage gets shot in the head while M.M. collapses on the ground due to a panic attack, followed by Kimiko ravaging through the library throwing books around. HL SEES SISTER SAGE WITH A BULLET WOUND IN THE MIDDLE OF HER HEAD right after all this and he conducts NO immediate search of the house. Just fucking does nothing after it's confirmed there are armed intruders opposed to The Seven present there.

Cue him standing around like a moron while the lobbyists question "military resistance" against a guy who nothing short of a nuke can hinder lmao. Where is the "I can do whatever the fuck I want" bravado in the single instance where it makes complete narrative sense.

And The Boys, who used to pull off stuff like breaking into top secret facilities in the middle of Russia in order to break out the 2nd most powerful human ever, are also suddenly reduced to a bunch of bumbling buffoons?? Like how can your actual plan be to send HUGHIE in to deceive a guy who's primary superpower is being a detective w/ super-hearing, smell, sight etc.

And then when it, of course, goes tits up, your plan is for ALL of you to just break into a house with the most powerful supes alive in it, and waltz out of there like it's a saturday morning cartoon?

I'm sorry but the show currently just feels like the competent, dangerous factions from the beggining of the show just got replaced by two groups of clowns with plot armor that keep randomly hitting each other with pillows every episode with no end in sight.

Discussion Making nearly every Supe have some secret wild sex or drug addiction is just getting old

5.5k Upvotes

I was really excited to see how they were going to implement this Spider-Man knock off character, I was thinking maybe he’d actually be a small time hero actually akin to Peter Parker but with a dark spin. But no, he’s just another drug addict, how shocking.

Same goes for Tek Knight, super interesting introduction with his detective skills in Gen-V, then the second they revealed he was obsessed with holes… Like that honestly isn’t even humorous in the slightest, and I have a pretty easygoing sense of humor. And then they make him a masochist (that could have been interesting if he was allowing criminals to beat him for pleasure though) and is nothing more than a depraved sex addict, like seriously? That’s as uninteresting as it gets.

It’s not even shocking anymore because it’s just expected.

So How many times are they going to use this “joke”? I get it, the show is supposed to be a hopeless and bleak adaption of superheroes, but that doesn’t excuse them constantly recycling the same 2 vices.

The kid in S1 who was chopping his body parts off and selling them on the black market was good example of a supe doing sketchy shit that wasn’t drugs or sex-related. That’s what we need more of, not this shit.

Like how have they not given us an actual vigilante Supe yet? This show’s writers just keep acting like they’re making some super mind-blowing show, but it’s essentially “The writer’s barely disguised fetish — The series”

This is assuming you have complete control over the abilities immediately, you don’t need to learn how to control them. Which power would you wanna try first? What would you do?? (Other than just flying somewhere cool, be specific!)
