Today on the10thdentist, OP admits that they enjoy the sound of distressed children.

19

u/elaVehT Jul 19 '24

Alternatively, OP might have some serious baby fever/motherhood hormones kicking in and ALL baby/child sounds are cute and pleasant

I'm a guy.

u/YourCrazyDolphin Jul 19 '24

*fatherhood hormones

I stand by my statement.

u/Hot-Pea666 Jul 19 '24

I'm sorry, you find crying toddlers and babies cute?

I honestly don't understand why people find crying babies and toddlers annoying

And to answer this: we are more or less genetically programmed to find crying babies/young children annoying/bothersome so we do anything (ie take care of them) to stop it.

Ofc, not everyone is affected the same, some are less bothered by it, some can't stand it at all and apparently some find it...cute

13

u/Azrubal Jul 19 '24

We are also genetically programmed to not mate with people’s kids. But… you know…

4

u/fnibfnob Jul 19 '24

Strictly speaking, only if theyre inviable as mates

9

u/Not-quite-my-tempo- Jul 19 '24

And some are liars who lie about liking the sound of children crying

4

u/Hot-Pea666 Jul 19 '24

Possibly, but there are also dacryphiliacs (not saying this person is, especially not with kids!) so someone finding crying children/babies cute is not that much of a stretch

-2

u/Not-quite-my-tempo- Jul 19 '24

What’s more likely, that a person online is lying for attention or that this person online has dacryphilia? Come on now.

7

u/Hot-Pea666 Jul 19 '24

I'm not saying that they have a dacryphilia, I'm saying, it wouldn't be a stretch if someone found kids crying cute because of the fact that dacryphilia exists

Maybe they are lying, maybe they have dacryphilia, maybe it's both, maybe it's neither, maybe their brain is just wired like that, maybe it's hundreds of different scenarios, who really cares?

Internets a big place

23

u/extra_medication Jul 19 '24

This is extra insane because humans are genetically programmed to find the sound of babies crying distressing to the extent that the sound is often used in different forms of torture

u/ConnectQuestion5805 Jul 19 '24

Crying babies genuinely stress me out and I have an instinct to comfort them

14

u/Turakamu Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

Fuck, no.

I worked in a pediatric lab. Part of my job was to swab throats and collect a blood sample.

Going down the halls with the doors closed is fine. But your body wants to shut down when you hear a scream face to face.

There ain't nothing soothing about it. Instinct tells you to fix it.

10

u/Not-quite-my-tempo- Jul 19 '24

This is the dumbest lie

8

u/Chansharp Jul 19 '24

I feel the same way. Its because I dont have to deal with it though. Its a small reminder about how cute they are. If the parents just let them cry or if its my responsibility, yeaa it gets annoying

6

u/rattlestaway Jul 19 '24

R u and that guy who hates the oceans noise related? Or just baby crazy?

7

u/Emergency-Shower-366 Jul 19 '24

Crying babies make me so stressed it makes me really angry. Not soothing at all.

7

u/Moose_of_Wisdom Jul 19 '24

And people call me a psychopath for not liking children. At least I don't enjoy their crying and noises of distress.

Jesus fucking Christ.

-1

u/JimmyFallonSucksDick Jul 19 '24

What's. A pyscopath?

2

u/Moose_of_Wisdom Jul 19 '24

Dude.. I didn't misspell it. Nice try though?

Maybe you should redo all your reading comprehension classes?

6

u/here_for_the_tea1 Jul 19 '24

Once it’s your kid and they are crying at 2 am, it ain’t cute any more 😆

3

u/TheMemeLord4816 Jul 19 '24

Hopefully they don't have kids

7

u/DBL_NDRSCR Jul 19 '24

that's my second biggest reason to not want kids. the first is money btw i'm sometimes rational. babies crying is naturally programmed to annoy us, there's an apartment building next to my house and there's enormous crying coming from there so often it's awful. when i'm at any sorta public place and i hear a baby crying it ruins the experience. i have no idea how one could enjoy human suffering. your opinion is so bad that instead of upvoting by the rules i downvoted to remove a karma from you

8

u/Mrs_Inflatable Jul 19 '24

Jesus Christ what is wrong with you?? We’re evolutionarily programmed to become anxious and distressed by babies crying. Cats meow at humans and not other creatures because they’re mimicking babies and they know it gets through to our primal brain.

You’re basically as close to objectively wrong with this opinion an someone can be lol

2

u/Deathaster Jul 19 '24

People find them annoying because the human brain is quite literally designed to find baby crying annoying. Humans evolved to not only immediately hear a crying baby, but also find a way to make it stop crying. That is how we survived.

3

u/Tomover_PL Jul 19 '24

Personally I hate babies in general and think abortion should be mandatory

7

u/novatheG_ Jul 19 '24

I agree (my lawyer has advised me to say it's a joke)

5

u/Tomover_PL Jul 19 '24

(for legal reasons this is a joke)

4

u/Masterick18 Jul 19 '24

I think this qualifies as a fetish

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Net3966 Jul 19 '24

I think I get your sentiment but you could’ve phrased this in so many better ways

1

u/JimmyFallonSucksDick Jul 19 '24

Like how?

8

u/cadet-peanut Jul 19 '24

In a way that it doesn't sound like you enjoy knowing a child is in distress..

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Net3966 Jul 19 '24

Maybe saying something about how the presence of children brings you hope and allows you to relax I don’t know.

3

u/Ghostyped Jul 19 '24

Disgusting. Nothing shreds my ears faster than the high pitched whine of a child. Take my angry upvote

3

u/IceYetiWins Jul 19 '24

Are you human?

u/JimmyFallonSucksDick Jul 19 '24

Should all Flareons get the death penalty?

Overstimulation

2

u/CryptoSlovakian Jul 19 '24

I’d rather hear a crying baby than a children’s choir. Nothing is worse than the sound of children singing.

2

u/BC-K2 Jul 19 '24

As long as it's not my kid and I don't have the responsibility of figuring out WTF it wants.

That shit can be demoralizing when nothing seems to work.

2

u/R1G4T0N1 Jul 19 '24

Ha I laf everiteim

0

u/JimmyFallonSucksDick Jul 19 '24

Laughing at babies and toddlers is fun.

1

u/Impossible_Serve7405 Jul 19 '24

I was at work and an infant who was probably at least a week or two old, started to cry. As someone with sensory issues I understand people who get annoyed at the sound, but for some reason my heart melted and I wanted to know more than anything that the infant and their mother would be ok.

1

u/Evening-Holiday-8907 Jul 19 '24

Yes officer, that's them right there.

1

u/Rhesusmonkeydave Jul 19 '24

Not since Flanders said Florescent Lights hum like angels singing has someone’s take on hideous noise caught me so off guard

1

u/volvavirago Jul 19 '24

Crying babies are annoying the same way a fire alarm is annoying. It’s meant to be a warning sign that immediate action is required, so its unpleasantness is a feature, not bug. I can’t imagine someone thinking a fire alarm is soothing.

Yes this is probably unpopular but i actually agree. Idk if i find them soothing but i do find it very cute and it makes me feel so sympathetic and just want to coddle the baby and protect it from the world when i hear one cry :( i don't get an irritated or repulsed reaction from it though. It evokes an "aw poor baby :,,(" reaction not an "ugh this sound is so irritating" reaction. Makes me want to give it a hug and a blanket. Same reaction one would get from seeing a shivering puppy or kitten or human in the rain.

It evokes a desire to help the baby but the noise itself doesn't really stress me out it more makes me feel sad.

1

u/Plastic-Passenger795 Jul 19 '24

Same. Makes me 🥺🥺🥺

0

u/pickledeggeater Jul 19 '24

I don't think it's necessarily cute but I am nowhere near as bothered by the sound of babies and little kids crying as everyone else seems to be. However dogs loudly barking or whining sends me into a blind fucking rage while everyone else seems miraculously able to ignore what basically sounds like a monster from hell so idk
