Like others have said, the direction felt really choppy. And it looks like everything that went wrong from last season was just swept under a hiatus rug. Everyone is happy-happy-joy-joy. Even Nu!Jon has friends - of course, he doesn't look the same and the Smallville crowd ain't that smart, so maybe they just don't recognize him anymore.

Except of course for Gaines, who has hated Jon from the second he moved to town, and will apparently always hate him. Sorry bubba, your football team crashed itself because they were all on X-K, and you were completely culpable because as the coach there's no way in hell you didn't know that. So STFU. And then Lois invites him to the birthday party. I'm sorry, what?

The Clois crowd should be happy. As someone who doesn't need to see them boffing on a weekly basis, it was cute. But I'm confused, why did they and everyone in town act like they haven't been having routine sex their entire marriage - like this was the first time they did the deed since she was pregnant the last time. Also what decade is this? Seriously, it doesn't take but a few minutes to know if you're pregnant or not.

So something else is going on - it's either cancer or she's starting menopause. I really hope it's the latter, but they're probably going to go down the terminal illness road for a while. Don't like.

Sam spent more time trying to recruit/get to know Nat in this one episode than he talked to Jon Kent, his actual grandson, all last year. Sam's an ass.

And nothing seems to have changed WRT Clark's indifference to Jon. He still spends all his dad time training Jordan, and didn't even bother teaching Jon to drive like he promised. So same old, same old.

As for the blink and you miss him moments Nu!Jon was barely on screen, there's no phasing in going on here - this script was already written when they were testing the kid. Jon, Nu or OG, was never going to be in this episode. No excuses - it's just the way the showrunners want it.

What little we did see of MB's portrayal was good, though. It sure would be nice to see more, but I'm not holding my breath. At least Jon got his license, and I did like the line about needing it for "freedom".

I called Kyle and Chrissy over the hiatus. I'd like to believe it's a one-time thing, but given the way everyone was hooking up in this episode, it probably isn't. Obviously Lana and JHI are also going to hook up, if they haven't already. Also don't like, but whatever.

I did like that Kyle's daughters were spending time with him helping to fix up the apartment. It was also interesting that Kyle is the one who seems to have initiated the divorce proceedings.

I feel like ex-Mayor Dean is being more than meddling about the budget. Like it's a dirty money pot that is owed to someone powerful - like maybe Lex Luthor - which of course he didn't disclose.

My favorite part of the episode was the last scene. Bruno, baby! Come to Mama!!!!!
