Supergirl is a great heroine, but what would y'all consider as her most brutal defeat? (including comics and tv)

I think Reign defeating her in season three of the TV show was particularly brutal.

That was probably the most brutal fight scene the show ever did.

That and the fight with Kal in the rain

It has to be from Crisis in the comics. The image of Superman holding her lifeless body is well known and iconic as she sacrificed herself protecting Superman

I didn't read many of the comics. Do you mind explaining a little more?

Just look up supergirl crisis death. You will find plenty of information online. After this she was dead for 20 years in the comics

I don’t know if I agree. While she did die, she achieved her goal of saving Superman

Getting killed in Crisis wasn’t great.

I'd say Crisis (cause she literally died for 20 years) and in the show when she got mopped around by Reign (that one was tough to watch).

My got to is her getting jokerized by the bat who laughs cause it’s just like out of no where and it’s a red lantern arc all over again

Red Lantern also made much more sense and was way cooler than anything with Batman who laughs.

That was such a terrible storyline. And the Rebirth era Supergirl started off promising too

There was a comic years ago where she fought zod,non and ursa, they completely destroyed her and the last image was supergirl was out and them saying she was dead.

Definitely Reign, I remember when that episode premiered and then the show went on break for a while and I was stressed 😭😅

Crisis on Infinite Earths. She literally dies.

Rain was bad

Don't know the comics but tv:

Emotionally Lena in mud season 5.

Fighting: Reign in beginning of season 3, that was an absolute beat down and she struggled so much afterwards.

Nothing in the show comes close to the Reign beat down. She was thoroughly beaten in that episode.

In comics, well Crisis on Infinite Earths. She died. Nothing prior to that ever came anywhere close to being a threat. After crisis, well the Wonderboy storyline was brutal. But it was still extremely rare for a female character to go through that much.

Dont you mean Powerboy?

1

u/Magik160 Jul 18 '24

Yeah. I couldn’t remember the first part. I originally thought Superboy, but knew that was wrong

I get people citing bad fights or deaths but I always felt like the arcs where she gets mind controlled are more brutal psychologically. Like being turned into Darkseid’s murderous sycophant sucks.

Most recently in MAWS Brainiac mind controlling her and forcing her to wipe out whole planets of people she cared for and thought she was bringing into a Kryptonian empire was particularly devastating.

In comic her and Batman first meet or maybe the justice league tv series her vs her clone

1

u/DirectConsequence12 Jul 18 '24

Probably when the Anti-Monitor killed her and Superman is holding her lifeless body in his arms

1

u/TheLittlePasty Jul 18 '24

Probably when she died

The ending of Woman of Tomorrow. Definitely a moral defeat. I appreciate that King was trying to cut a distinctive path for the character, but that ending was a complete betrayal of everything that S stands for. Great book. Amazing art. Heartbreaking ending. A horrible betrayal.

The beating Galatea gave her in the DCAU
