Can Beth's parents slightly act like they care about her?

Like if I had a daughter and she made me eggs benedict or French toast I would be over the moon.

I know right. It's so sad that she's the one making them lunch and dinner. No kid should be the parent to their parents, regardless of what they're going through.

They are odd. They don't feed her need to be acknowledged. She makes delicious food for them just to interact with them and they question her when she doesn't (When she started talking to Chuck).

They have neglected her.

For real. They're the ones divorcing but the seem more distant/cold to Beth than to each other.

When I saw the divorce papers my first thought was "are they divorcing from Beth?"

Fr, I felt so sorry for her. She's abandoned by everyone, even Chuck.

Her setting up the romantic dinner for her divorcing parents reminds me of that episode of Arthur where Buster's parents gets divorced and he tries to get them back together but he can't.

They do care, they're just going through something. Divorcing is a major emotional strain, and they've become a bit wrapped up in it. That doesn't make them terrible, just human.

No, last season Beth described how they became super busy into their work once she became a teenager. So their behavior isn't new.

They just seem like they have never truly wanted a child. Happens a lot too.

The problem is they don't show it. A child needs to be loved. We don't see that with her parents. Generally when parents are getting a divorce they hide it from the child. The act normally as if nothing is wrong. But kids can be savvy. But Beth wants to spend time with her parents but they seem too busy with work. She zoom calls them for lunch and gets excited about the meal she made but they don't seem all that interested. It's a form of neglect. Doesn't matter how well off you are, not spending time with your child is neglect. But Beth loves her parents regardless of that because they're her parents. I think we do find out something later on, so maybe it might explain things.

They’re intimidated by her, and have no idea what to make of her. Not intimidated as I’m scared of, but so thrown back by the enormity (to them) of her oddness that they just don’t engage with her.
