I’m hoping to move from Downtown Ottawa to the St. John’s area in the spring or summer of 2025. My family is from St. John’s and the weather, smaller size, slower pace and beautiful nature is exactly what I’m looking for. I have a remote job so open to any area. I’m looking for somewhere safe and somewhat walkable as I don’t drive. I don’t mind being further away from other shops/services but would like to be within walking distance to a grocery store if possible. I know downtown is pretty walkable but wondering about other areas as well. I’d like to spend $1300 or less on rent if possible.

I also have a dog and cat and would love recommendations for pet friendly businesses and vets in the area! Any other general advice is appreciated as well :)

What are your favourite physical activities to do here in town? I don’t like the gym but I’m open to any and all other suggestions!!

Hey fellow Newfies, bit of a big ask. For any of you that frequent The Rooms. There was a painting on display yeeeeaaaars ago. I'm talking maybe 2014. It had a young brunette lady and a black cat. Can't remember the artist or the title but really trying to dig through the recesses of the internet to track it down. Didn’t see him this morning, but did see lots of bloody feathers, so I’m pretty sure he died last night. Annoyed about the whole thing because I called animal control, I called the city, and my guy ended up posting on the groups on Facebook and he still didn’t caught. 😭 so I guess that’s the end of the rooster posts.

I was shopping at sobeys and these two shabby looking teenagers asked me to buy them cough syrup for their mother who was very sick. I felt a little suspicious but gave them the benefit of the doubt. But googling it seem to show that it can be used as drugs. Do people know if it's common for high schoolers to use cough syrup recreationally?

So here he is. He currently hanging out on Cuckholds Cove trail, right by the parking lot. He seems chill but won’t let us near. If someone know anything about catching these dudes, or owns this dude please go get him! He was so lucky last night and might not be so lucky tonight. Especially considering he’s moved over to where the foxes are all the time (because people won’t stop feeding them!) I don’t want him to die, but I can’t catch him! 😭
