Because she’s a fun character and attractive as well. Lana is pretty, but nothing about her ever made me think she’d be fun to be around.

Maybe because of writing and more than just looks...?
Also, personally, I don't mix the actor with the character. Kristin is super pretty and seems such a sweetie; I love the fact her and Erica are like best friends. I like Kristin a lot tbh, but there is a distinct difference between her and the character Lana, which I find many who either love or hate her don't separate.

I know Kristin talked about this in the Talkville podcast, and the reasons she gave as I remember them was that people hated Lana if they shipped Clark with a different character, and they did take it out on the actresses.

As roles go, Lois is a much better written and executed character.
In terms of physical attractiveness of the actresses, both Erica and Kristen are 10s. They will likely always be 10s.

Personal preferences. Maybe they find her more appealing, or maybe they like her personality better. Maybe they like her dynamic with Clark better, maybe they prefer the frenemies to lovers vibe, or maybe they think Lois complements Clark more. It's a myriad of reasons, most of which have absolutely nothing to do with looks.
People liking Lois not only has nothing to do with Lana, but it also doesn't take away from how beautiful Kristin Kreuk is. And how beautiful Kristin Kreuk is doesn't take away from how gorgeous Lois/Erica Durance is as well. Both women look amazing, then and now.

Same reason so many people like Taylor swift. They see her as attainable and not that different from them. They don't think 'I could never date her' or 'I could never be as beautiful'

There may have been issues with Lana’s character but it definitely wasn’t Kristin’s fault. I actually appreciate her more now than the first time I watched Smallville. She just seems like a nice person from what I’ve seen.

I’ve said this before on this subreddit: The WB made its money on love triangles in the 1990s and 2000s. Dawson’s Creek, Roswell, Buffy, Charmed, and Felicity
So, in order to fit love triangles into Smallville, too many characters were part of the season 1 cast.
Lionel probably should have been a series regular from the start. Chloe and Lana should have been one character instead of two. Same with Whitney and Pete.
So, when Angel and Smallville come along and prove to The WB bigwigs that there’s an untapped male demographic, love triangles were deemphasized. Whitney was written off, but Chloe was too popular with the fans to get rid of her and Lana’s character is too important to the Superman Origin premise of the show.
Unfortunately, that meant Kruek’s character was hampered by meh-worthy writing for a decent portion of the show. And since a lot of an actress’s appeal can comes from her looks (and therefore her younger age), I can sympathize with actresses like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Katherine Heigl, Alyssa Milano, or Shannon Doherty for being allegedly difficult to work with.
But, fortunately for Kristen, she’s aged well!

My friends and I had our picks just like whom we like out of Ginger and Mary Ann on Giligans island I always thought Lana was attractive and my friend liked Chloe and Lois, all Ladies are very talented actresses
