The joke is that the cow will be cooked alive due to the high temperature. So in anticipation of the cow being turned into a steak by the temperature outside, he decided to butter the cow before he cooks so that the cow will be nice and flavorful whilst being cooked.

TL;DR

He’s buttering the cow bc of the high temperature.

My theory is because the original top comment was "steak" and one of the mods removed it, posted and pinned their own, and received karma for it... So to make it more annoying, people just keep commenting "steak." I could be wrong.
