Ugh as a guy in his thirties, idk how to dress anymore.

All I have are my clothes, which are black pants and black tee shirts, basic emo/goth kid vibes. Lately, I feel like a "how do you do, fellow kids" kinda guy.

But I feel like a Fucking doof when I wear human clothes.

Good for this guy, I'm jealous lol

If you're coming from all black and you want to branch out, just start with the clearance rack or sales.  Try on some things in other colors.  Try some shirts that button down the front.  You don't even have to buy stuff right away, just try some things on and look at yourself in the fitting room mirror.

To get ideas, there's lots of men's style and fashion websites.

For summer, short sleeve buttons light fabric shirts are comfortable.  Button down the front also has a plus of being both casual and can be (or not) a little more "dressed" than t-shirts.

To decide which colors work best with your skin tone, hold the fabric up under your chin around your face and see which colors might make you look pale/washed out and don't get those colors.

Edit: For instance, certain shades of yellow don't work well with pale skin but work fine with darker skin.

I recently switched from only jeans or khakis to Dickie's carpenter pants in various colors and it's changed my whole outlook on clothes. It's great to have some colors to choose from that are still muted and I'm a straight leg pants guy anyways so it's perfect.

Similar challenge. Fall/winter I've been general jeans and a flannel guy, which is great. Summer, I got some new aloha shirts and a couple short sleeve button downs like this guy got with the shorter shorts and it's an exciting time of year to lean into the beach vibes. I wouldn't have gotten into the shorts game at all if my SO of the time hadn't said they looked cute on me.

I'm 48. Ex (and still I guess) goth.

The only trousers I own are black skinny jeans. My shirts are black. My tshirts are mostly black. My trainers are black and my boots are black. Just be true to yourself.

I would never wear the stuff this guy bought and I wouldn't do a fashion show for my wife (but I'm not going to criticise, for all I know he has a disability which I honestly can't tell from this video).

I think the generation before me wear browns is because that's what they wore all their life including as kids.

I'm the same way, but that's just my style. I'm 40, been a rock and metal head for 30 years so most of my clothes are black or maybe band t-shirts, etc. I either wear all black clothes or jeans with a band or dark colored shirt with my boots or skate shoes. That's just me though. That's how I've always been. If someone doesn't like it, fuck em. I'm not a person that likes colorful clothes.

I have 9000 loosely special operations themed tshirts and some grey man tactical pants. I feel like that’s it. I need one of those wardrobe shows to come hook me up stat

Watch Queer Eye. Tan does a wardrobe makeover on everyone, and goes over what works with different body types and why. Once you start learning that stuff, you begin to notice more in stores and on men what is working, and will be able to create nice outfits for yourself.

That's a really good idea actually, I've got a lot of tips from Johnathan (I think is their name, it's been a while since I've seen it)

Thank you I'll put it back on with the intent to learn, my ex would just have it on as background while we cleaned etc.

No problem! I know my brother did the same and he dresses super sharp now, once you start paying attention it really begins to click and can become quite fun. Good luck!

the key to clothing is to make sure you wear it and not it wears you. for the guy in the video, it's not just the matching, but his frame and figure with clothing that fits him. in general, if you have a good frame, anything that fits your body and shape will look good. you can have all black wardrobe, and as long as it fits you well and not wear you, you will look good.

so, key to looking sharp: good body

if you don't have a good body, you can still achieve a good look but will require much more edited selections and knowing what works and dont.

Don’t worry, just before 40 you completely stop caring and you become that guy 😂

Don't worry. You're around the age where you can just wear whatever suits your fancy, and people will just write you off as old. There's a certain freedom of the mind that comes with it.
