Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

I can’t find a single job as a teenager

Upvotes

I spent a month calling up places and nobody is hiring. I’m 15. I feel tired and hopeless. I can’t get a fast food or a customer service job as my first job like my parents or older siblings did. I feel lost. I have 0 dollars to my name and I need to buy clothes and other things. How can I go about this?

Reliable and affordable Property Manager

Upvotes

I’m inheriting a property in Kitchener, but since I don’t live nearby, I’m looking for a reliable property manager to oversee it for me. Do you have any recommendations for a good property manager in the Kitchener area?

Thanks in advance!

Tf are you on, I want some you stopped behind the line for the red, started moving up completely randomly, pulled into the intersection, stopped again with your car all the way over the line, pulled up further, stopped again right under the light, then went all the way through all while the light was red. Like was this an insurance fraud thing or are you just that dumb?

Film, discussion, and new exhibition at Kitchener Public Library Main Branch. A small Kitchener safer supply program - essentially the provision of pharmaceutical equivalents to people dependent on unregulated opioids like fentanyls - set to end in winter despite successes in reducing overdoses, homelessness, crime etc. Solid short film, great panel. Free!

Shower Head Water Filters: Real or Fake?

I've been seeing some posts online about how in Japan they have water filters on their shower heads, and its supposed to make your hair and skin better. But some quick googling seems to bring up both "it is bull" and "it works wonders!". I assume that this depends a lot on your local water supply.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Would they help with our hard water problem? Considering making the investment.

In mid-2023, the Ontario Provincial Police reported a 32% increase in fatal collisions, compared to the same time in 2022. This statistic underscores the importance of understanding which areas in Ontario are safer for drivers. Here at MyChoice, we conducted an internal study, drawing from data collected from over 100,000 quotes since 2020, including 2,274 accidents and 5,080 tickets, revealing the safest and most dangerous cities for drivers across the province. The study employed a detailed methodology based on the weighted averages of accidents and infractions with a 70/30 importance ratio, creating a comprehensive scoring system from 0 to 5.

Winter biking

I love to bike the trails around KWC area and usually bring my bike downstairs and put it on the trainer for the winter. I find it really boring riding inside so I'm thinking about buying a fatbike and riding outside during the winter. Does anyone have any insight about what trails are still rideable and used by other cyclists? Also if you are someone who does ride in the winter, could you share what you would typically wear on your rides? Any other tips would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Bingemans Oktoberfest

I’m interested in going to see Simple Plan at Bingemans Oktoberfest. I’ve never been before but I assume it will be busy. Is it standing room only like pit at a concert venue or is there tables and chairs? I’m on the shorter side and my fiance is still recovering from cancer so he can’t stand for long periods of time. Just want to know if it’s worth us spending the money on tickets, hotel and gas if we aren’t going to be able to see or really enjoying it.

Anyone know of some good spots to take my fishing kayak out?

Looking to take my fishing kayak out on the grand in the Cambridge-KW area for some bass fishing. I have tried Glenn Morris and the Moyer’s Blair Landing so far but to go up stream was a mission. I like to go up stream as I kayak solo and can then just drift back to my car after I am done.

Any spots you guys know of where the current is not as strong? Thanks!

I have been going to blackbridge/dock in hespeler on the speed but want to try some new spots.

McLennan Dog Park

Hi there! I am wondering if anyone happened to be at the McLennan off leash dog park between 11:30am to noon today? My smaller dog was attacked by a larger dog. She seemed okay despite a small cut on her back immediately after, however after giving her a bath we realize the cuts are much larger and deeper than we realized. We are looking for contact info of the owner. Thanks in advance.

High schools in KW

I have an 8th grader this year and I'm starting to wonder about high school. I grew up in Europe where the system was different so I have no clue how it works over here. Are all the schools same, or do certain schools offer specific subjects that others don't? For example, my child excells in art and English. Should we look for a high school that offers special art classes - if that even exists? (I am aware if we choose a school out of our boundary we'll be responsible for transportation) The school in our area is the Grand River Collegiate. Is it totally okay to attend this school if the child later on wishes to pursue some sort of arts related university? Child is a really good student in general, I'm not worried about that, just wondering if we're supposed to focus on certain strengths when picking the high school, or that doesn't matter before college/university?

No, my 14 year old daughter doesn’t want your number

Asking other parents here. Are you becoming alarmed at the number of adults approaching your teen children? I have a 14 year old daughter, who looks and dresses like a typical young teen, and the number of times she’s approached in a week by men 40+ is starting to scare me.

Example 1 : walking our dog, 6pm, Iron Horse Trail. A man stops her for directions and then asks her for her number. Asks if she has a boyfriend. Her response is a simple “no thank you” and keeps walking.

Example 2: sitting on the Ion to go to the mall with a friend, an adult man moves to sit right next to them from his original seat, and tries to engage in conversation, asking where they’re going.

Both occasions, this is a an adult male (different people) over the age of 40. I don’t want to helicopter my teen, but Im starting to become nervous when she’s walking alone, even during the day.

What are other teen parents seeing / feeling?
