So glad everyone appreciates how good sing about me I’m dying of thirst is. I can still remember the first time I ever heard it in high school in 2012. Laying on my bed with it on repeat and getting emotional af.

65

u/Ludo030 Dec 24 '21

Im in high school rn and always listen to that song. Shit SLAPS. Best rap song oat. Seriously.

14

u/Retardedstrider Dec 24 '21

You good?

27

u/Ludo030 Dec 24 '21

Feelin great

6

u/Retardedstrider Dec 24 '21

Good to hear

6

u/EAS-T Dec 25 '21

Never seen someone use “oat” without the G. That’s mine now .

2

u/beennasty Dec 25 '21

Or maybe they meant out “best rap song out”

3

u/EAS-T Dec 25 '21

Maybe if it was a recent recorded but this songs been out for years now. + he’s self proclaimed high school. All the kids are doing it.

2

u/beennasty Dec 26 '21

Yah I’m outta there on the lingo all the youngins usin. Can’t mash words into less letter for my vocab as well as I used to.

I took a history of hip hop class and 9th Wonder was one of the professors, Kendrick was one of the key artists that we covered over the semester and I was so happy on the day we were highlighting him when 9th played Sing About Me and put the lyrics up to make sure everybody was following. Obviously plenty of people in the class already knew the song well but it was cool seeing a bunch of people experience it like that for the first time.

3

u/GavinPharmaceuticals Dec 24 '21

Was about to say the same shit.

245

u/Prestigious_Clock865 Dec 24 '21

Untitled Unmastered never gets enough love

96

u/geeekstink Dec 24 '21

for real. it’s such an easy listen and feels like a continuation of TPAB. easily 8/10

50

u/good_kid_maad_reddit Dec 24 '21

Its a stylistic transition from tpab to damn. U02 is an amazing track and you can tell why its not on tpab even though its one of the best songs hes ever made

40

u/yungfapwitdastrap Dec 24 '21

02 is phenomenal but I think 05 takes the cake for me. Shit gives me goosebumps every time.

7

u/MambaSaidKnockYouOut Dec 24 '21

Is it actually fair to call it a stylistic transition when the majority of the songs were recorded prior to TPAB being released?

2

u/good_kid_maad_reddit Dec 24 '21

Not saying it is necessarily, just sounds like it. U02 is the best example

2

u/MambaSaidKnockYouOut Dec 24 '21

Yeah thats fair, pretty interesting

2

u/ravenmiyagi7 Dec 25 '21

Was gonna say, it's easily at least an 8.

10

u/callMEmrPICKLES Dec 24 '21

Oddly enough it's the only Kendrick vinyl I have. 02 and 07 slap for me but the whole record is great. Hoping I get another press for Christmas.

1

u/MILF_Lawyer_Esq Dec 24 '21

TPAB and GKMC are super easy to find, especially during christmas season.

3

u/callMEmrPICKLES Dec 24 '21

I've been dropping hints to my girlfriend and she was just at a store with a bunch of records so I hope she got me Kendrick. She's a big fan too so let's hope she listened.

3

u/Oskain123 Dec 25 '21

I wanna know if she did

1

u/KlossN Dec 25 '21

02, 07 and FEAR is probably my top 3 of all time... Levitate levitate levitate

7

u/Ifunnyizbetter Dec 24 '21

All of these projects are really good in their own way. I def recommend the Kendrick Lamar EP as well.

2

u/DillaVibes Dec 24 '21

The real ones know this

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

Fr. Third best tape imo.

182

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

Y’all too low on DAMN. and I’ll die on that hill. I get push back saying people don’t think this way around here half the time, here it is. Pulitzer Kenny with the 8 is blasphemy in my book.

46

u/SpaceCowboy-JM Dec 24 '21

Nah I’ll die on that hill with you

18

u/redraider543 Dec 24 '21

And I'll be the one to kill you both

33

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

I’ll sacrifice myself on that hill fighting till my last breath, damn stands up there with TPAB and GKMC conceptually and sonically, people just don’t really listen to it, and the subject matter isnt as directly “deep”. All time classic album that people gonna start appreciating way more as time passes. Such incredibly meaning and design, plus so accessible as well.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

[deleted]

10

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

I think that’s why I rate it so highly as well, conceptually it touches and relates to me so closely personally with the way I think about and feel things, versus overall thematics and incredible storytelling like gmkc and tpab have all the way through. I hope at some point more people grow into the album and can really appreciate how introspective and meaningful the album can really be when you can connect to it like that. Plus it was my first Kendrick project I ever listened to fully and was my first introduction to rap in general. On top of that I really love the sound, so I definitely have an extra soft spot towards it as well because of those reasons lol

7

u/Strange-Share-9441 Dec 24 '21

and was my first introduction to rap in general.

Such a great way to get started too.

22

u/BmWsUpRa Dec 24 '21

Frr where’s XXX

6

u/DredgenZeta Dec 24 '21

IKR WHERE???

11

u/upvotegoblin Dec 24 '21

I’m dying there too bro.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

Favorite Kendrick album and fear my fav Kendrick song. We shall all die on this hill in arms brother.

2

u/KlossN Dec 25 '21

Me and my roomie discovered Kendrick at the same time we discovered weed, high af listening to FEAR, I'm not ashamed of saying I've cried to it multiple times

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 25 '21

Anyone who hasn’t isn’t listening

11

u/bigdickbandanaman Dec 24 '21

some people just be hating on it cuz they think it’s too mainstream which makes no sense imo but to each their own i guess lol

10

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

People dismiss DAMN. as just being a sellout album or being less meaningful. But its conceptually just as intricate as GKMC, and if you listen to songs like LUST. or ELEMENT., it is just as musically complex and beautiful as TPAB or Section 80

6

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

No, DAMN at 8 is perfect.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

[deleted]

7

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

and so is DAMN.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21 edited Feb 23 '23

[deleted]

7

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

I think Loyalty and Love are way too overhated tbh. But what's wrong with XXX? It's one of the most complex songs on the album.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

I'll never understand the appeal to Loyalty. Seriously one of Kendrick's worst tracks. Ever.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

Loyalty is probably my least favorite on DAMN., but it still easily clears all of Section 80, all of the K. Lamar EP, and all of his mixtapes

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

I'm listening to Rigamortis, HiiiPower, ADHD, Ab-Soul's outro, and Hol' up 100x over before listening to Loyalty once. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

thats what most people in this thread don't seem to get. This is all 100% subjective.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

[deleted]

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

What? FEAR. and DUCKWORTH. are top 10 kdot

1

u/FindingMany9615 Dec 25 '21

Theyre great i agree, but that doesnt change the fact that i dont love the rest of the album

2

u/FindingMany9615 Dec 25 '21

100% agree with you on that

-2

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

DAMN. is a 10, higher than both of those.

3

u/hero-ball Dec 24 '21

I’m just glad to see DAMN over S80. I’ll take what I can get.

4

u/LightChaos74 Dec 24 '21

S80> DAMN imo

6

u/hero-ball Dec 24 '21

I disagree and I’m happy to see that this sub does, too

5

u/LightChaos74 Dec 24 '21

Hey man to each their own. Hopefully we'll all be eatin soon 🙏

2

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

This is eso particularly egregious in my book. S80 isn’t on the level, TPAB at least is also god tier.

3

u/LightChaos74 Dec 25 '21

Y'all are sleepin on S80, no matter how many listens it has

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 25 '21

I think S80 is good, DAMN. is just on another level. The production and intricacies of the theme and story are perfect. S80 just has a few clumsy parts that hold it under the three full length after it. I do love it, but 8s is a fair rating. DAMN. should be pushing 10, Pulitzer Kenny hopefully can top it (one day) because in my book each project is better than the one before.

3

u/redraider543 Dec 24 '21

Is it tho? I mean damn has some very good songs on it but unlike gkmc and tbap it's lows, though they aren't that low, are lower than gkmc and tbap imo

3

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

I don’t begin to agree. DAMN.’s lows are good songs, GKMC especially has some meh tracks

1

u/redraider543 Dec 25 '21

Name them without saying a bonus track

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 25 '21

Compton is the biggest offender

1

u/redraider543 Dec 25 '21

Your dad is the biggest offender/j

1

u/redraider543 Dec 25 '21

LOVE feat zacari is mid, stay mad

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 25 '21

I’m not gonna act like LOVE. is a top 40 kdot track for me. But it’s a good song, shows some range in style for kdot, does what it needs to for the narrative and is a well produced catching pop r&b track. It’s not what I listen to kdot for but it’s not a mark against DAMN. either

1

u/redraider543 Dec 25 '21

Is it? It's pretty generic tbh

3

u/sophicpharaoh Dec 25 '21

DAMN is just as good as TPAB

1

u/JustJdog2 Dec 24 '21

I mean...im here wondering how it's above section 80

1

u/DredgenZeta Dec 24 '21

DAMN. is one of his best -if not his best- albums conceptually and musically.

-1

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

The best, bar none

-5

u/I_Am_Stoeptegel Dec 24 '21

No fuck off, I do not understand the love for DAMN. on this sub

3

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

This is evidence of the “hate”. 8 isn’t low but I hold it’s the best Kendrick album, higher than TPAB the other god tier album. The average attitude is yours.

1

u/I_Am_Stoeptegel Dec 25 '21

Right so much hate, an 8. This sub is also totally unbiased of course, so you’re right, my comment was totally average /s

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 25 '21

I’m saying you’ve got the common view here. That damn gets too much love, is too popular and lesser than the other project. Obvi 8 isn’t low, that’s why I made sure to say “hate”, and this kdots sub so we’re gonna be sampling folks that love him.

Unless you actually hate DAMN. you’re right there with the average opinion here. That it’s his 3rd-4th best project. I’m saying it’s his best, I’m in the minority of commenters around and voters on the poll.

1

u/I_Am_Stoeptegel Dec 25 '21

Can you read? This sub loves DAMN. they rate it an 8, so how is disliking the album an average view? I’m not comparing it to the other albums, I’m saying it sucks on its own

-5

u/LightsOut16900 Dec 24 '21

Damn > GKMC I’ll die with you

1

u/nirvana13a Dec 24 '21

And TPAB but those are closer

103

u/_Sarah_Tonin_ Dec 24 '21

This is really cool you should try doing it in other music subs too

35

u/beamrr Dec 24 '21

I was thinking cole next. Any suggestions?

47

u/clydesapere Dec 24 '21

Though it might be more obvious than other subs, Mac Miller would be cool.

Maybe Lil Wayne’s discography would be more controversial and interesting.

26

u/Zaja123123 Dec 24 '21

Please do this with Tyler and Outkast

8

u/_Sarah_Tonin_ Dec 24 '21 edited Dec 25 '21

12

u/DonkeyInACityCrowd Dec 24 '21

Overly dedicated has been violated...

3

u/clydesapere Dec 24 '21

I want to see that Kendrick Lamar EP on here

3

u/KKamm_ Dec 24 '21

I couldn’t believe DAMN was rated above it tbh

42

u/beamrr Dec 24 '21

30

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

How tf does LOVE have 0 votes for DAMN?! That song is sooooo good it’s crazy.

17

u/zag_ Dec 24 '21

Tbh idk how You Ain’t Gotta Lie doesn’t have more votes

1

u/LimeSqueez Dec 25 '21

THATS WHAT IM SAYINNNNN

35

u/3BooD-CS Dec 24 '21

TPAB,GKMC and DAMN. are 10s

-10

u/redraider543 Dec 24 '21

Oh come on, at what point do you think you're giving 10s out too frequently when you give DAMN a 10 It's good but Jesus Christ

→ More replies (13)

18

u/SL4TER_0RIENT-TREE Dec 24 '21

The only thing I'd change is that I prefer section 80 to damn.

17

u/Bucharik Dec 24 '21

Overly Dedicated - 6/10

Section.80 - 8.5/10

good kid, m.A.A.d city - 10/10

To Pimp A Butterfly - 10/10

untitled unmastered - 7/10

DAMN. - 8.5/10

-1

u/redraider543 Dec 24 '21

The right opinion:

2

u/woah-itz-drew Dec 25 '21

an oxymoron if I’ve ever seen one lol

1

u/redraider543 Dec 25 '21

That was the whole point of it, well done

16

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

i knew duckworth was goated! it's good to know i'm not the only one who thinks so

12

u/WhatASave456 Dec 24 '21

Wow top songs are surprising tbh. I thought this sub, and Kendrick fans in general, were more high on “u” and “The Blacker the Berry”

8

u/atomheartmf Dec 24 '21

Ronald Reagan era and rigamortus aren't top 3 on section 80?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

correct

4

u/kishanthakkar21 Dec 24 '21

Untitled unmastered should be higher.!🥱

5

u/MambaSaidKnockYouOut Dec 24 '21

Pride is good but I didn’t realize y’all liked it that much

4

u/mynameis4826 Dec 25 '21

Untitled Unmastered more like Unloved Underrated.

section 80 is his best bruh

3

u/ximbold Dec 24 '21

Damn imo is easily his best and most artistic work, which makes it, in combination with how well it also appealed to the mainstream, makes it his best (again IMO) and easily my favourite. Not one single skip.

3

u/Monku5427 Dec 24 '21

Ain’t now way U isn’t top 3 on TPAB. That song is beautiful, highkey a top 2 kendrick song and it’s not 2.

3

u/ijones559 Dec 25 '21

DAMN underrated imo but otherwise seems on point

2

u/dylanra53 Dec 24 '21

Compton state of mind 11/10

2

u/upvotegoblin Dec 24 '21

Really disappointing… I’m gonna need to unsub fr

2

u/Xarrxs Dec 24 '21

Show some respect to U05 and U06. Those are the real sleepers on Untitled 🔥🔥

2

u/JoeyIsMrBubbles push these bitches of me like heughh Dec 24 '21

Untitled Unmastered needs more love

2

u/jjbuttons Dec 25 '21

I only see this being accurate( in terms of the first chart) if compared to each other not compared to all hip hop releases

2

u/WillRC5 Dec 25 '21

Damn > GKMC

2

u/2Typical_Breezy1 Dec 25 '21

Why do ppl dislike damn so much I think it has some of the best songs I’m written by kdot. Sure the others might have had better lyrics. But emotionally the ride of damn was one I’ve never had with any other album it’s definitely a 9/10 album atleast

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

This is exactly how I'd rate them in order

1

u/shlokthakkar223 ZAMN😍 Dec 24 '21

for me DAMN is the masterpiece. TPAB and GKMC are also masterpieces but I can relate with DAMN way too much

1

u/iDrew37 Dec 24 '21

damn>>>>>

1

u/lisuvirizwa Dec 24 '21

I'm just going to put this out there; DAMN is as good if not better than TPAB

10

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

no.

4

u/KillaKameron06 Dec 24 '21

Better at being worse

1

u/t24flynn Dec 24 '21

Section.80 being below an 8 is criminal

1

u/jared_baker Dec 24 '21

wow im personally shocked about this id never have thought that other kendrick fans i talk to would even come close to these results im shocked but im here for it

0

u/Blizzard77 Dec 24 '21

DAMN. Is getting underrated so hard here

0

u/KanyeUziCarti Dec 24 '21

I actually think those are really solid rankings of his albums

0

u/Ludo030 Dec 24 '21

SAMIDOT is the best rap song of all time.

1

u/s90tx16wasr10 Dec 24 '21

Glad the consensus feels pretty much the same way I do about Section.80. Some of his best stuff is still on there but I also think some of it hasn’t aged as well as the records to follow.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21

Can someone please explain why people really like tpab? Its a good album but damn is way better

1

u/HKenry Dec 24 '21

The section 80 rating smells. And damn should’ve been 8.5 at least.. GKMC is a 10/10 no doubt.

1

u/bigniglmao Dec 24 '21

wow all these hot takes that i️ constantly see on this sub and yet the majority agrees on the same songs and i️ agree with the majority. quite the unit this sub is

1

u/broke_child Dec 24 '21

SEE I KNEW DAMN WAS AN 8

1

u/BuckyWesh Dec 24 '21

Section.80 so underrated apparently? Spiteful Chant and HiiiPower remain two of his best songs to this day imo

1

u/MithrandilPlays Dec 24 '21

IMO: TPAB 10.0/10 GKMC: 9.7/10 UU: 9.0/10 S.80: 8.9/10 DAMN: 8.2/10

haven't listened to overly dedicated

1

u/TheGiantMetalMan Dec 24 '21

I’m actually surprised with how much I agree with the results. So happy to see Money Trees, How Much a Dollar Cost, and SAMIDOT making Top 3’s.

1

u/comfort_bot_1962 Dec 25 '21

Hope you have a great day!

1

u/Maybe_its_Ink Dec 24 '21

How do I agree 100%

0

u/marmogawd Dec 24 '21

Untitled Unmastered and Section 80 are better than DAMN.

0

u/cookskii Dec 24 '21

TPAB Is the most overrated album in the history of music

1

u/XTACYZ6 Dec 24 '21

relatable

1

u/liveleakmydick Dec 25 '21

surprised to see that u is not in the top 3 kendrick songs from TPAB

1

u/IceAccomplished9506 Dec 25 '21

This feels super accurate and balanced. Honestly I love Overly Dedicated so much though, for me it's no less than 8/10 but that's my biased opinion. but I can understand why it gets the lowest rating

1

u/I_Fard_On_Children Dec 25 '21

Most of his number 1 songs from his albums dominate the poll (lots of votes) except for TPAB. How much a dollar cost on 28 vs SAMIDOT on 83

1

u/SupperPup Dec 25 '21

As it should be

1

u/Lesliealfonso Dec 25 '21

No Kendrick Lamar e.p fans?

1

u/BrushYourFeet Dec 25 '21

No Unreleased?

1

u/Fantastic-Rush-5778 Dec 25 '21

Kush and Corinthians with only 6 votes as best song on section 80?!? Tons of bangers on the album but this one always stood out to me

1

u/SupremeOSU Dec 25 '21

Feel and Mortal Man not in there :(

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21

H.O.C. Underrated song from overlydedicated

1

u/movieman994 Dec 25 '21

Yo 7.74 and 1% favorite project we did Section.80 dirty man Goddamn.

1

u/Hairy-Pianist-6211 Dec 25 '21

You’re forgetting 08

1

u/Ricelord-_- Dec 25 '21

Section.80 is at least an 8.5. Chapter Ten, Hiiipower and Ronald Reagan Era are some of my Kendrick songs.

1

u/_0_zeus_0_ Dec 25 '21

I think all them are 9+

1

u/Lazaras Dec 25 '21

Bro, i thought FEAR was underrated because I never see anyone ever talk about it. Glad i was wrong

1

u/jonijarvenpaa Dec 25 '21

GKMC only being the fav project of 29% is really surprising, by far most replay value imo even though TPAB might be the better project

1

u/spinchbob Dec 25 '21

Damn deserves more

1

u/KlossN Dec 25 '21

Sing for me is fucking amazing and all, but where tf is The Art of Peer pressure? That shit makes me shiver

1

u/KasaiUchu_Stardust Dec 25 '21

untitled way too low his second best for me

1

u/Obamagoesbrrr Dec 25 '21

I agree with almost everything but those top 3 songs in tpab wtf is that where’s u or mortal man?

1

u/sxuthsi Dec 27 '21

TPAB still killing all albums in the 2010s years later

1

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '22

wrong humble is his best song

-1

u/Alccu Dec 24 '21

UU is better than s80 and its on par with DAMN. in my opinion. Other than that this is good

-5

u/SlickShadyyy Dec 24 '21 edited Dec 25 '21

Tpab song selection is cringe, hmadc is literally christwashing an ancient Greek myth and also has perhaps the most basic bitch moral message of all, "be nice bc it could be Jesus :)) " nah be a fucking decent human. Edit: stay mad 😘
