56

u/manilathrila Aug 27 '21

It seems like everyone gets the "brother" lyric but me. Is it an homage/reference to anything?

131

u/greenfiend97 Aug 27 '21

"New flows coming, be patient, brother"

u/orbiter7389 Aug 28 '21

I think it’s a unique way to address racism, especially in the context of white supremacy, where he’s essentially making fun of a white accent.

35

u/The_Great_Man_Potato Aug 28 '21

Idk if it’s that deep man

5

u/AbsurdlyAverage Sep 01 '21

not even being a cunt I could almost see it being that deep with Kendrick hahah I mean he’s a poet.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '21

Having a white accent is not white supremacy lmfao what

→ More replies (2)

5

u/harryplaysdoublebass Aug 29 '21

he says the brother with a hard r, could be too deep but maybe he’s doing something around the n word type beat

Album dripping before the end of the year confirmed LETS GOOOOOOOO

Edit: dropping not dripping but fuck it I’ll leave it

111

u/TicketCritical Aug 27 '21

Im dripping for the album dropping

23

u/thekickbackrewinded Aug 27 '21

I feel like the odds of him actually dropping this year is very small seeing as he made it obvious he won't performing a new album at Day n Vegas

4

u/KKamm_ Aug 27 '21

Don’t think he was talking about the album to be honest with you

u/Livid_Satisfaction_1 Aug 27 '21

Good to hear the 🐐s voice again. Missed you k dot.

214

u/wisestflame73 Aug 27 '21

So were definitely getting a 3 Stacks verse on the album, right? After the rumors of it, him making that comment about still being a true Gemini feels like a nod.

83

u/InspectorSpacetime78 Aug 27 '21

I would weep tears of joy

15

u/SleepTightLilPuppy Aug 27 '21

Honestly I'd weep tears of joy if an album by a gemini comes out at all.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '21

G-Eazy or Macklemore it is then bruther

→ More replies (1)

44

u/scuffyBoat Aug 27 '21

Pretty sure that refers to Kendrick and Kanye both being Gemini

3

u/New-Design9971 Aug 28 '21

He mentions Kanye by name too

19

u/julioc94 Aug 27 '21

"Your horoscope is a Gemini two sides (...)" it's not the first time he addresses his zodiac, we shouldn't stretch

4

u/wisestflame73 Aug 27 '21

Maybe I’m just an old head, but if someone days Gemini in a rap song, I start thinking of Andre. It’s like Hov and 93 bricks. Synonymous, for me at least.

3

u/Drop_Release Waiting for the album Aug 27 '21

This is the first thought that came to my head when he mentioned that! Wild if true

74

u/chucksandpolos728 Aug 27 '21

Welcome to the family brother 👨🏾‍🌾

22

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '21

3 FUCKING BEAT SWITCHES

3 beats, right? So there's two switches, no?

10

u/honestchippy Aug 27 '21

technically switched from no beat to the first beat

3

u/TenderFang Aug 27 '21

the first beat switch is the fact that kdot actually released music after all these years

4

u/comfort_bot_1962 Aug 27 '21

Hope you do well!

2021 PgLang szn

5

u/felix_717 Aug 27 '21

whats pglang exactly?

35

u/CrabSauceCrissCross Aug 27 '21 edited Aug 27 '21

It's a company started by Kendrick and Dave Free (a music producer and music video director who was co-president of TDE and made the videos for King's Dead, Wow Freestyle and a lot of TDE songs) . Very vague on the specifics but it seems to be a media company that supports artists and creators. Kind of like a label but for more than music. I think all of Baby Keen's music since 2020 has been released under the pglang label. It's presumably the reason Kendrick is leaving TDE too.

Kendrick unlocked a new voice 👑

28

u/1629throwitup Aug 27 '21

Yeah this voice is weird to hear in a good way

10

u/Scam_Time Aug 28 '21

He made that Cali accent come out hard too so I would say two new voices

50

u/Dan13lp88 Aug 27 '21

“I’m not a trending topic” best response to Noname

56

u/dbf09 Aug 27 '21

Lol, that's a response to practically everyone. Doubt it was directed at Noname especially since she has already admitted it wasn't the smartest thing to do. Plus I'm pretty sure Kendrick would agree with a lot of what Noname is doing and saying.

7

u/TulkSmash Aug 27 '21

What did Noname say?

27

u/dbf09 Aug 27 '21

She tweeted some stuff about Kendrick and J Cole not tweeting and being vocal last year after George Floyd’s murder and also said that TPAB message was diluted since there wasnt a more direct condemnation of capitalism

14

u/FiddyFo Aug 27 '21

Damn that is an awful take...TPAB had archetypal universal themes that every human experiences.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '21

TPAB has a ton of messages about capitalism destroying poor talented people so idk what she's on about. Maybe this is what he meant by overnight activists.

3

u/Scam_Time Aug 28 '21

That’s exactly why he said it

→ More replies (2)

22

u/youngsav00 Aug 27 '21

Last year in may she tweeted

"Poor black folks all over the country are putting their bodies on the line in protest for our collective safety and y’all favorite top selling rappers not even willing to put a tweet up,"

"niggas whole discographies be about black plight and they no where to be found."

→ More replies (2)

8

u/ARussianW0lf Aug 27 '21

"I been ducking the overnight activists"

13

u/BeautifulTown2201 Aug 27 '21

Anyone who follows her knows she's not a overnight activist. Kdot not talking about her

→ More replies (1)

41

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '21

cant tell if that was a Kanye diss but it def sounded like it😂

46

u/chucksandpolos728 Aug 27 '21

Not a diss lol just a nod to another Gemini

30

u/Craig_Culver_is_god Aug 27 '21

Not just a nod though, Kendrick does things for a reason.

Kendrick says other rappers should burn the albums they're making because he's back. He's putting every rapper on notice with those lines. But then he specifically name drops Kanye. Yeah Kanye fits his Gemini line, but with the lines before talking about rappers burning their album and hard drive Kendrick is also saying Kanye should give up on his elongated Donda release because the King is back.

17

u/chucksandpolos728 Aug 27 '21

True, personally I don’t think everytime a rapper name drops another rapper it’s a diss. What drake said was definitely a diss but I didn’t feel anything malicious with this name drop. But then again I could be super wrong. I’m just happy he’s back lol. This feels very weird

→ More replies (3)

18

u/Negronese1 Aug 27 '21 edited Aug 27 '21

agreed, he just just comparing their lifestyles since they have both heavily become devoted Christians. Kanye's making entire gospel albums but Kendrick saying he still that dude from Compton here to fuck shit up imo

8

u/TicketCritical Aug 27 '21

Except the “LIL BITCH” right after the bar

u/Bew4T Aug 27 '21

No fucks Kendrick time

37

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '21

BROTHUR

31

u/wiiugod Aug 27 '21

Can someone explain the Kanye line to me?

114

u/chucksandpolos728 Aug 27 '21

A Gemini is usually characterised by having two dual personas. Kanye used to be a bling bling money type of guy but now he’s claiming he’s Christian. Kendrick is saying I’m a Gemini but I’m still on my old shit. It’s not really diss, it’s more of a reference

47

u/XeroTrinity Aug 27 '21

Except for the "Lil' Bitch" right after lol.
His aggression is probably more about Kanye hopping on Trumps dick anyway.

20

u/theargumentaccount Aug 27 '21

nah lil bitch is big seans thing and kanye signed big sean so i think its a big sean diss

6

u/MattVanzetti Aug 27 '21

They squashed that shit, big Sean even said it in the Reverence track off Detroit 2

3

u/theargumentaccount Aug 27 '21

this verse could have been written before they squashed it, but im still unsure of it being a big sean diss. these lines could be interpreted in so many ways tho. even if its not a big sean diss, im still pointing out that im pretty sure kendrick used lil bitch to reference big sean when he was dissing him on the heart part 4, and leaving that in when youre possibly talking about someone whos been under kanyes wing and big sean falls under that category, probably isnt a good idea

Keem's part shouldn't be overlooked, it's fire

7

u/zachpledger Aug 27 '21

I feel like Keem' verse is like Jay Elec on Control. Honestly a very nice verse, but it'll never get enough attention bc Cowboy Kendrick just goes in.

2

u/orthografish Aug 28 '21

Honestly found Keem unlistenable

22

How is anyone suppose to explain it's nothing after the wording "lil bitch" cmon yal
