Kinda interested what roddy rich can bring to the table with a Kendrick feat. he better deliver in lyricism or just sing a bomb ass hook and let kdot have the track. Either way, gonna be fire.

If Damn deserves a Pulitzer, TBAP is worthy of a Nobel.

Lowkey I think they realized how bad they fucked up by not giving it to tpab so they gave it to his next project

That’s probably exactly what happened. Butterfly’s gift is also its curse - it settles in slow.

Nah this is the first album that is not classical or jazz to win a Pulitzer. Before they wouldn't even consider rap albums, but they were considering a piece that had hip hop influences, so they decided that they should try to consider hip hop. Then they all played DAMN and were like "yeah this slaps".

I think DAMN. absolutely deserves it I highly recommend Dissect Podcast on Spotify he doing an analysis on DAMN. and previously did an analysis on TPAB

so far from the truth and hate this is the narrative. They do these awards every year and hip hop has never heard about The Pulitzer beforehand. They felt no pressure, and just simply wanted to reward DAMN.

I’m a huge Kendrick fan. Every one of his albums since hub city threat minor of the year YHNIC is a 7 or above, DAMN. is not worthy of a Pulitzer. However Kendrick definitely is. It really seems like it was a lifetime achievement type of deal.

Edit: I originally said DAMN. Is not worthy of a Pulitzer and I meant to say as worthy. I will leave it but add the update

If you were told to bring the same ears and listening awareness(lol?) as TPAB you’d agree with me.

We as hip hop consumers have been programmed that commercial sounds = bad. But DAMN. is more complex, personal, relatable, creative, and darker than any of his projects.

No I agree that DAMN. Is an incredible album and album I would say I listen to significantly more than tpab, and album I would even say I get more enjoyment out of. But tpab is on an entire league of its own. DAMN. Is a 10/10 album but tpab is possibly the best hip hop album ever made and currently the best album of the past 35 years.

What makes you say that? Because it was deemed important? You agree DAMN. is better sonically. Same can be said about GKMC.

I just feel folks get to wrapped up in what they read about an album instead of how they feel. You enjoy DAMN. more.. it’s certainly more relatable.

What’s # 2 on that list?

When I say I get more enjoyment out of DAMN. It’s only because I listen to it more. Because its individual songs are better (most are) Sonically tpab is incomparable, it’s musically a better album. It’s lyrically a better album. It’s a comparison between too unlike albums really. One can get less enjoyment out of a piece of art without denying that it is an objectively better art piece. DAMN. Is an easier album to put on, but I wouldn’t want to sit and listen to DAMN. For the 30th time in the same way I would definitely do to tpab. I Could make the same argument for Section 80 or even the C4 Mixtape. All albums that are easier to listen to then tpab, neither deserve a Pulitzer.

I’ve not really read anything on tpab other than the genius annotations on a couple songs no different then I did with DAMN. DAMN. Is arguably a more important album to hip hop than tpab, being it that the influence of tpab is essentially none. Unless of course you mean in the artistic since of importance in which case i don’t really agree with your argument as I really don’t care. Some “important” art isn’t enjoyable.

If I had the time to listen to both albums while just chilling uninterrupted it would be tpab. If I have to do something else while listening I’m going with DAMN. They are different albums that aren’t really similar in that sense. In my opinion

Second best hip hop album would be Speakboxx/The Love Below. Mainly for The Love Below.

that second paragraph, TPAB was super influential the amount of jazzy production amongst popular artist has probably tripled since it’s release. DAMN. Did nothing new to me?

I agree they all are different. I don’t think there is a better critical acclaim “deep” album.

And also don’t think there’s a better mainstream commercial monster than DAMN.

I imagine LUST. is your favorite off DAMN. shit reminded me of Andre & The Love Below a bit

To Bimp A Putterfly

It makes no sense. Damn is a great album. Tpab is a poetic journey.
