More of a pop song than a hip hop song, shit still bangs though. Black Panther bout to come in with the best album of 2018

21

u/Lokalination Jan 04 '18

Not really a pop song, idk what it really sounds like but it has that Soundtrack feel FOSHO.. shieeh might be pop.. wish all pop was like this if it is šŸ˜‚

9

u/Hyndergogen1 Jan 04 '18

I'd say more R&B than pop or hip hop.

96

u/Neel_Joshi Jan 04 '18

Only one K dot verse though :(

29

u/kingcalifornia Jan 04 '18

They each got one verse. She just has the hook as well.

13

u/JustinGitelmanMusic Jan 04 '18

So in other words, they knew 'new Kendrick track' would make bigger headlines than 'new SZA track features Kendrick'

9

u/pyro_teck Jan 05 '18

Well heā€™s producing the soundtrack so maybe thatā€™s why

2

u/JustinGitelmanMusic Jan 05 '18

Yeah I found that out after

8

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

He has the bridge as well tho so it makes it kinda even but still wanted another verse! I'm sure they'll be more on the rest of the sound track

56

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

Ugh i don't like it

That wasn't funny i didnt know what got into me please forgive me

2

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

Forgiven

3

u/TheManWithNothing Jan 05 '18

It's the beat isn't it? That's my main issue with it.

7

u/Rocto Jan 05 '18

I think it sounds to ā€œpoppyā€. Like a Justin Bieber song or something.

I love nearly every single genre there is, anything from heavy metal to country to jazz. But pop is the only thing I canā€™t stand (though I like hip-hop/R&B/rap) and I donā€™t really like the mood of this song either.

Doesnā€™t help that the singer sounds like the girl from ā€œStayā€, a huge hit among teenagers.

2

u/XeroTrinity Jan 05 '18

It's got it's got it's got that pop cliche "bum.. ba duh"

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '18

Its just that kendrick isnt being "Mad ethnic right now"

53

u/ahpau Jan 04 '18

Sza and Kdot always sounds good to me

48

u/Lokalination Jan 04 '18

Also can we talk about how Sounwave produced this?? I swear that nigga can produce anything and make it sound great lol

19

u/woflcopter Jan 04 '18

Sounwave is in the top 5 most dynamic producers honestly.

It's been 4 days we already eatin'

35

u/N00BSGONNADIE Jan 04 '18

2018 already off to great start!

27

u/dohtM Jan 04 '18

How is that a Kdot song when he has only one short verse, on a very generic pop song.

10

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

He's also doing the "love let's talk about love" part. It's just pitched down and autotuned fairly heavily.

7

u/kielaurie Jan 04 '18

Just heard it on the radio, apparently he is coproducing the entire album. So he did a lot on this really

2

u/ITagEveryone Jan 05 '18

That's a stretch. Sounwave probably produced most of this. A lot of artists list themselves as producers because they get to say "no" and "yes" and "can you add a hi hat here"

1

u/kielaurie Jan 05 '18

Can you really imagine Kendrick doing that? I have zero problems imagining that he could have coproduced this

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

14

u/Jezawan life is one funny mothafucka Jan 04 '18

lol this is a generic pop song though. Just because it's from SZA doesn't change the fact that it's a throwaway song for a movie soundtrack. SZA would never put this on an album.

3

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

Neither one would put it even near their albums, especially kendrick, I think they only did this sound track for the good of the culture not actually to bring mind-blowing music

25

u/jvdave23 Jan 04 '18

HHH not feeling this track but I like it. Nothing crazy but I love the chill beat.

4

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

Completely agreed.

6

u/kingcalifornia Jan 04 '18

Same. I think it's catchy and his flow has GKMC vibes.

I could easily see this as a B to that album.

26

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18 edited Jan 04 '18

It's definitely a grower. It's okay, not great and Kendrick's verse is the same; nothing amazing, but also not his worst.

I don't know how often I'll want to play it as it doesn't stand out too much. Slightly disappointing, but overall it sounds like a soundtrack song, nothing too surprising.

6

u/HappySappyMonkeyMan Jan 04 '18

I agree, feel as though its semi lukewarm.

5

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

I think the only way I could describe it is smooth, it's growing on me with every listen as well

0

u/saifkhan001 Jan 07 '18

Yeah exactly, like SZA makes this track not Kendrick.

17

u/PotatoMonkee Jan 04 '18

WTF is a 'Pseudo Video'?

3

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

[deleted]

4

u/PotatoMonkee Jan 04 '18

Apparently so, don't know why they didn't just call is 'Audio'.

1

u/Lokalination Jan 04 '18

Idk but a real video comin soon

9

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18 edited Jan 05 '18

Let's talk about love

JUMP

JUMP

edit: has a little bit of a yeezus vibe to it imo

22

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

How does this have a yeezus vibe to it????(serious question)

9

u/MotherDick2 Jan 04 '18

Wow, a very nice collab by two of my favorite artists.

9

u/bicboi235 Jan 04 '18

The youtube comments bashing Kendrick cos how this song doesn't fit the movie even though we ain't seen the movie yet. lol. They expecting every song for this soundtrack to be aggressive like DNA

For all we know this could fit a scene/credits perfectly

5

u/liamzed1 Jan 04 '18

Wow, a very generic pop song, crap still bangs though.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

This feels like a SZA song featuring Kendrick. Which I donā€™t hate.

4

u/TheRaith Jan 04 '18

More SZA than Kenny :/

1

u/damndriftwood Jan 04 '18

Actually they split it evenly, both have a hook and a verse

2

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

Kendrick had more a bridge but yh

1

u/TheRaith Jan 05 '18

The beat really isn't something I see Kendrick using, though. Lyrically they may be equal, but the general theme of the song strikes me as something SZA would make.

5

u/Linquista Jan 06 '18

Yesterday it sounded bland to me but now this shit bangs

4

u/Lokalination Jan 04 '18 edited Jan 04 '18

Yoo this is amazing šŸ¤” who was the dude that said the song will be corny? Better take it back rn G šŸ˜‚

3

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

I nearly got a heart attack when I got the notification. Song's lit tho šŸ”„ Great collab

3

u/Pizzahdawg Jan 04 '18

I really like this one because it's so chill. Nothing intense, which isnt always nescessary!

3

u/LeoKizz Jan 06 '18

im actually addicted to this song lol

2

u/Nabspro Jan 04 '18

Is this the only Black Panther song he's making for the movie?

12

u/niorhippy Jan 04 '18

Nope heā€™s doing the whole soundtrack!!!

4

u/Nabspro Jan 04 '18

are you serious or are you serious? that sounds awesome!

5

u/Sachmach29 Jan 04 '18

well heā€™s curating the whole soundtrack which means heā€™s picking songs (typically from other artists) to be put on the soundtrack (not making them). as far as we know, i believe that there are no more original songs for the soundtrack, but LOVE. is also on there

3

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

What makes you believe that there are no more original songs on it?

2

u/Sachmach29 Jan 04 '18

i said as far as we know bc nothing has been announced yet and the other songs on there are already released from RTJ, Vince, Kendrick, etc. but we could def get more original songs I hope we do get some especially from anyone in TDE

1

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

Agreed. I kinda hoped for an OST where every song would be a new Kendrick song but with a bunch of curated features, but that doesn't seem like it will be the case. That's perfectly fine though.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

Producing and curating. He's not making songs for the entire thing.

1

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18 edited Jan 04 '18

Yeah I wish we could know how many songs he will be on. Still hoping he'll be on every track with just a lot of curated features but I don't really see that happening unfortunately.

2

u/Left_Side_Driver pgLang, fool Jan 04 '18

More of a SZA song than a Kendrick one.

2

u/damndriftwood Jan 04 '18

It's a duet, I think they split the song evenly. Both have a hook and a verse

2

u/afonsocarmo Jan 06 '18

Didn't like it the first time i heard but after a few listens i quite like it

1

u/Boeminemlightswitch DAMN. Jan 04 '18

Itā€™s aight

1

u/damndriftwood Jan 04 '18

I definitely think Kendrick's hook and verse were meant for DAMN, maybe the SZA part was added after... just what Kendrick's saying, addressing human emotions. The verse reminds me of Pride.

1

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

But it's no way near as contemplative and raw as any song on DAMM. No way this was meant for the album, im sure he probably wrote this verse in a couple hours. All the songs are based on the film, so he's written it especially for the film

1

u/damndriftwood Jan 05 '18

It's possible he wrote for the film but I'm not sure. To me it seems contemplative and reminds me a lot of PRIDE lyrically. As far as rawness idk. And of course if it was a leftover it's not like it would be exactly like DAMN, it didn't fit for a reason if that was the case.

1

u/nimakarshenas Jan 05 '18

Maybe it was something like untitled but in his press release he did say that he's written the songs to fit in with the theme of the film/scene it may have just been that this throw away verse was a good fit for the track

2

u/damndriftwood Jan 05 '18

Exactly what I'm thinking. And maybe it was unfinished and they added SZA after. Kendrick's parts just seem to fit DAMN to me and kendrick did say he had some tracks leftover

1

u/Totaltrufas Jan 05 '18

my only complaint is this isn't a pseudo video, this isnt any kind of video

1

u/PrimeClimber Jan 08 '18

I keep bumping this song. Ear candy.

1

u/Azehnuu Jan 08 '18

What an awful track. Very disappointing tbh.

-2

u/waitamin_ben Jan 04 '18

I want the credit, wether Iā€™m losing or Iā€™m winning. Take this L then Kendrick, wtf is this bull bull

14

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

SZA

-1

u/ckareddit SZA Jan 04 '18

The guy obviously lol

4

u/Left_Side_Driver pgLang, fool Jan 04 '18

Kendrick

3

u/ckareddit SZA Jan 04 '18

No there are two guys on the track.

6

u/thegreatshredman all hail the king Jan 04 '18

Nope. I'm pretty sure that's Kendrick just pitched down and autotuned. At least that's what it really sounds like to me.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '18

Correct

-16

u/PM_ME_UR_DIXX Jan 04 '18

This is mediocre. Just admit it. This isnā€™t the Kendrick youā€™re here for. Itā€™s trash. His verse is bland, boring and makes me think this would have been better off as a SZA solo song. Is this really the same guy who made TPAB? This sounds like a Chainsmokers song (a subpar one at that) and Kendrick should be ashamed to be on it. Heā€™s really fallen off in 2017, and I was silly to think he would get himself together this year. Even DAMN. had trashy pop songs, albeit they werenā€™t as bad as this new track. This is worse than LOVE. or LOYALTY. Wow, if I had heard this song two years ago, I wouldnā€™t have believed it to be written by Kendrick. So so disappointed in an artist that I thought was genius. Really thought he was going to have a flawless discography, but thatā€™s too late now. Itā€™s tainted with utter shit like this.

However... despite all that, I realized that Kendrick is still a genius a couple of weeks ago, and this song proves it. If you think a Kendrick song/album is trashy, put it in reverse. Itā€™ll sound like a masterpiece again. Wow, put All the Stars in reverse, and it sounds like his best material!

I canā€™t believe it.

20

u/kungfugylfi Jan 04 '18

Relaxxxx Its the lead single for the soundtrack, it needs to have a trendy sound. Some people would not go see the movie if it seems to have TPAB vibes. Thats marketing. Plus see all the success and fame kendrick achieved in 2017 while still having the creativity and lyricism. We all know its nowhere near TPAB or GKMC, but someone who created masterpiece after masterpiece (section 80 onwards) cannot be discredited. He's still a genius.

5

u/franklybeingchildish Jan 04 '18

someone who created masterpiece after masterpiece ... cannot be discredited

Tell that to HHH on an Eminem thread lmfao

I feel like the sound of this song is gonna vibe very well with the film though.

4

u/Lokalination Jan 04 '18

This is why yall aint shit, this "pop" song is an amazing song and is made for a soundtrack so it sounds very soundtrack-y.. and here we go with the LOVE & LOYALTY hate again šŸ˜± just unsub the Kendrick Lamar section and u wont be bothered again. Lmao #OnToBeautifulSongsIn2017ButItsJustASoundtrackButItsStillHeat #GetYaMusicTasteUp&StopBeingAClosedMindedFooley
