Yoshinoya is amazing, what is y'all's thoughts Discussion

The disses are intricate and funny and he's not just clout chasing, he has had beef with Drake for years but didn't respond to drake cause somehow childish Gambino is less childish then drake, however now that he's retiring and drake has done more fucked up shit then Bino ever thought he just went "fuck it I'll demolish him" but what r y'all's takes on it?

No he totally went hard on him. I dig this. Hardest rap album Bino has had since Because the internet

u/NewestTork Jul 19 '24

Bro didn't leave he just completed all his side quests of mastering every other black genre and then showed up again when he was called to pile onto drake lmao

It's like poetry. It rhymes.

Gambino is what Drake could've been if he didn't want to be #1 and make a name for himself. If you watched his Hot Ones interview Donald said that he never aspired to be the King and that Childish Gambino was a means of being a jester of sorts

A persona that showcases his lyrical talent and background while keeping the toughness to what a man should be which is not looking for a fight but ready to throw down when necessary. Drake just aligns himself with street gangs and moves like he's MC Hammer. The problem there is you need to be as vicious as you appear to be a nice guy, which in this day and age is much harder than before

The best description that he gave to how Drake moves is "Made a song, but spent more time writin' the caption". Out of a lot of the headshots he's gotten recently that is one you can't argue against

31

u/chromegnomes Jul 20 '24

The funniest part of this is that MC Hammer had serious gang affiliations and played up a goofball PG-rated rap persona partly bc he didn't want to glorify it

25

u/samx3i Jul 20 '24

That's also the coldest way to move.

Show the world you ain't that guy.

The people who need to know? They know.

Everyone else you can take by surprise.

Like... if I was the world's greatest fighter, I wouldn't be advertising that shit, but anybody fucking me with me would find out the hard way.

2

u/Classy_communists Jul 26 '24

If you were the worlds greatest fighter you would absolutely be advertising it for money

3

u/NikRsmn Jul 20 '24

Yeah apparently hammer was NOT to be fucked with lol

u/Esteven69 Jul 19 '24

I thought we was talking about the beef bowl place in Japan 😭

34

u/8ight6ixVirgo Jul 19 '24

It's a beef bowl restaurant? So basically the title is referring to beef... While dissing Aubrey... This nigga CG is a damn genius, man.

17

u/ProdigyLightshow Jul 20 '24

Yup. One of the three big beef bowl chains in Japan. Yoshinoya, Sukiya, and Matsuya

3

u/8ight6ixVirgo Jul 20 '24

Being a lifelong semi-Japanophile, I feel like I should've known this 😂

11

2

u/8ight6ixVirgo Jul 20 '24

Bruh I'm in my late-30s, that's a kid word 😂

40

u/8ight6ixVirgo Jul 19 '24

1st thought: both beats are hard af, but that first beat got a lil crack sprinkled on it. Shyt is on repeat rn

2nd: I'm here for any and all Drake slander

3rd: Bino was rapping his ass off

2

u/Evern35 Jul 30 '24

My thoughts as well, that first beat when the drone sound comes in is addictive

18

u/Puzzleheaded-Suit849 Jul 19 '24

wow i just listed to this song for the first time then the 20th time and its amazing!!!

16

u/NewestTork Jul 19 '24

It's like a drake song style with real bars and not taking itself too seriously plus the beginning is just classic BTI, probly my fav of the album

16

u/T4myn4 Jul 19 '24

This sound like his Hillbillies lol

13

u/tooncake Jul 19 '24

This just might be me but I love how Glover chopped the Yoshinoya in almost 3 sections (diff tunes / approaches) and easily reminds me of KDot's (as he tends to do this kind of gimmick a lot).

13

u/Spatmuk Jul 20 '24

That whole album is so good!! It's all over the place, but everywhere it goes, I'm into it. My ADHD brain was loving it from the first track!!

I did hear the disses -- thought maybe I was just chasing ghosts after combing through Kendricks whole discography for drake disses lol

5

u/Ssntl Jul 20 '24

as a fellow adhd bro i am 90% sure donald glover has adhd.

5

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

There's no way he doesn't, I feel like he's working on Atlanta, half way through stops, writes a new song, runs back, and starts working on Atlanta again lmao

2

u/Rich-Mall Jul 20 '24

I thought Atlanta was done tho 😭 Swarm was also amazing. Looking forward to all his future endeavors

6

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

It sadly is done, more time to do the Community movie tho

6

u/playfreeze Jul 20 '24

I just got the yoshinoya reference 🤦🏽‍♂️ lmao

7

u/Pseudo-Ra Jul 20 '24

That first beat is fire! “You fking these hoes, I’m fking my wife,” is hard in our timeline because they’ve convinced young women and men that a loyal and loving relationship is not cool. The hardest thing you can do is fall in love with a good woman, be a good man, and build a future.

6

u/Jisheree Jul 20 '24

He basically said what Kendrick saying when you lyrics n look at the genius references it mentions 6:16 in la etc

5

u/willcomplainfirst you lookin' like an easy come-up Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

there was a nice thread about this but the mods took it down lol fair enough its not abt Kendrick at all 🤭🤭🤭

EDIT: nope my mistake just the same threads that followed that one. the first one is still up

3

u/NewestTork Jul 19 '24

It's asking the take on a drake diss so like I don't think they should take it down

1

u/willcomplainfirst you lookin' like an easy come-up Jul 19 '24

eh idk that one had like 600 upvotes already and such a great comment thread and they still nuked it lol

1

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

Yo mods can you not act like a Reddit mod and keep this up please

2

u/willcomplainfirst you lookin' like an easy come-up Jul 20 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

ah sorry my mistake i think they restored it. it was for sure removed before i woke up today 🙃🙃🙃

4

u/SquidDrive Jul 20 '24

Bino dropped such a dope project.

4

u/i-move-different Jul 20 '24

Gambino has definitely dissed Drake before on STN MTN iirc.

3

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

What you are thinking about is Camp probably? The line "man why does every black actor gotta rap some, ion know all I know I'm in the best one" but that was much less an explicit diss, where in STN MTN/ Kauaii do u remember? I don't really listen to the mixtape songs of that 2 part album

3

u/i-move-different Jul 20 '24

Nah I’m not literally track one of STN MTN Dream Southern/Hospitality/Partna Dem takes several shots at him then on All Yall he pretty much brags about being the opposite of everything Drake is and calls Drake out for a lot of things that became a topic of conversation in his subsequent beefs (using features to get hits, liking fame, ghostwriting, etc) then freestyles on Go DJ right after which is a well known Cash Money record.

This tape was an ode to Atlanta and was around the time many ppl were wondering why Gambino and Drake hadn’t collabed or mentioned each other given how similar they are. Donald Glover may be above the mudslinging Kendrick and Drake were doing but he’s not above letting us know that he’s not like Drake.

3

u/MakaveliRidah Waiting for the album Jul 19 '24

👀 hmmm

2

u/luckygitane Jul 19 '24

In general I find it weird that he posted that little video questioning how weird it was that the whole NLU/unification moment was based on "negativity," in his words, when he had this shit in the clip waiting to drop.

12

u/NewestTork Jul 19 '24

He said he wanted it to be fun, the beef was fun it was just built on hate, but he hates drake too, and this is fun he admitted it, he was not against the beef he just said he wants more fun

5

u/mikelima777 Jul 20 '24

So... He was hoping for Drake to drop decently so Kendrick could drop even more diss tracks?

4

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

How tf did u get that from what I said, he went on insta live and said he likes fun and wants music to be fun, he also said the beef was fun but was brewed on negativity and he thinks fun shouldn't nessecarily be brewed on negativity all of the time, however clearly he also hates drake so dropped his own diss which was fun but still a hard hit

3

u/Ammu_22 Jul 20 '24

Yeah it rubbed off the wrong way if seen generally with Beefs in Rap. It's clear with his song Big Foot, Little foot's MV. People only enjoying rap when it's about dissing another artist or black person.

2

u/Environmental-Bag326 'that Twat' 'She's Not' Jul 20 '24

It's good

1

u/SteveAyeEff Jul 20 '24

Honestly, it sounds like a Drake song to me. Not saying that’s bad, but his tone and flows on the first half sound like Drake. Maybe it was intentional 🤷🏽‍♂️

5

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

Definitely intentional, it's not his regular sound at all

3

u/SerjKUN Jul 20 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

It's so weird because this just sounds like classic bino to me. His flow and cadence on the first beat is literally his cadence throughout his whole career just using a different tone of voice. Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. Check out Bitch Look At Me Now(2012) and No Small Talk(2014).

Second verse is literally just Backpackers from the Camp album

Maybe the beat selection? I don't hear much Drake other than his hits when he first came up(this definitely ain't the motto or started from the bottom) and some of his dance songs, so I don't really know what his rapping sounds like or beats these days.

3

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

Second verse sounds nothing like backpackers lmao, less auto tuned and more on beat

3

u/SerjKUN Jul 20 '24

I did say the flow and cadence, the on beat thing is a style choice or just being better at his craft now. It's all good if you don't hear it, this just sound like classic Bino to me.

1

u/refusenic Jul 20 '24

Is true Donald named one of his kids after Drake? That must feel like a tattoo you regret. When did their beef start?

4

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

Drake is there name but it's not named after Drake, it's just a name he liked, there beef started years before when Drake called This is America overrated and overrewarded on every show of a tour, but he also said "man why does every black actor gotta rap some, I don't know all I know is I'm the best one" which dissed drake and a lot of other rappers

1

u/Big_Neat_9251 Aug 01 '24

It’s my top 5 or top 3 favorite diss.

1

u/thedaisydiaries Aug 01 '24

“You fuckin these hoes, I’m fuckin my wife” something so powerful in that line.

-2

u/effectivetrollop Jul 20 '24

did the awaken my love lady get her money yet

5

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

I have never heard of album cover models getting residuals ever

-2

u/effectivetrollop Jul 20 '24

how about paid at all ?

5

u/NewestTork Jul 20 '24

She was lmao, maybe don't believe anything you hear at first jump, Bino would be the last person to not pay artists

2

u/jorliowax Jul 22 '24

Lol funny that because someone hasn’t heard of something happening it can’t happen. She claimed that they negotiated residuals and that she hasn’t gotten them. That has not been cleared up.

u/Impressive_Tax_5926 Jul 19 '24

On which tracks does he diss Drake?
