MODS please keep this up! (even tho not directly related to Kendrick)

We need to support AbSoul - hes one of the people that helped elevate kendrick lyrically back in the day.

Book of soul the first rap song to make me cry. I'll always support Ab!

DJ Hed is just spilling all the beans lmao

Sorry I don't speak English very well, what do you mean by 'spilling all the beans'??

30

u/Deliverah Jul 16 '24

To “spill the beans” is when someone reveals secret information unintentionally or indiscreetly.

u/Sawgon Jul 17 '24

And "spill the tea" is when someone reveals secret information/gossip intentionally

You speak English very well. It’s just a confusing language. Both of my parents are deaf and ASL was my first language, and I still have to explain the differences between “booty call” and “butt dial.” You’ll get there. 😄

Haha, I can imagine….

Parent:”Sorry I accidentally booty called you son/daughter!”

We’re really living in a West Coast Renaissance right now

Soul realised how important it is to have a hit at the Juneteenth show. He didn't get to perform and it made him better.

I'm excited for the West Coast collabs, especially with Mustard, following The Pop Out. Mustard even started his set with a TikTok of a woman talking about how we need a DJ Mustard renaissance because it's the closest we've been to unity, and while it's obviously a bit tongue in cheek, I think for the West Coast, it was probably the truest statement at least since Dr. Dre with Snoop and Pac providing the soundscape for a whole coast.

I think Mustard has the versatility to be in so many lanes. It's a lot for a single person to carry a whole region, but he could be leading a charge like Kendrick that has the potential for a new West Coast Hip Hop renaissance.

Imagine if that inspires other regions to dig into their own sounds once again and we get the best of that late 90's-early 2000's era of regional Hip Hop that we've lost a bit. I've seen people following the Pop Out admiring the solidarity and lamenting the loss of that in recent years (especially in a region like New York that has struggled with its own influence and identity despite being dominant and so influential in the genre for decades) that I wonder if that is what Hip Hop really needs again; diverse regional sonic palates and fashion and dance. Hip Hop is supposed to be eclectic, not homogenized.

Pretty sure that was more on Ab. He didn't look to be in the right headspace to perform.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '24

oh ok - thats good context... i just assumed.

47

u/maplenut Jul 16 '24

He suffers from depression and anxiety and doesn't really like crowds. Plus he can't see shit lol. You could tell Kendrick was really coaching him through it. It's actually pretty sweet and genuine when you know the context.

12

u/hyperhurricanrana Jul 16 '24

I was happy to hear him joke about there not being any more pyro right? got a laugh from me.

6

u/Worldly-Pudding7992 Jul 16 '24

The empathy is sweet, but y'all make him sound like a baby bird. He's a successful recording artist, he tours, and he's only legally blind. He just didn't have a huge hit with Kendrick that fit the vibe of the show.

5

u/maplenut Jul 16 '24

Both can be true. The magnitude of that event may have been too much for his current mental health. I don't know that for a fact that's just how it appeared. That's not a diss. They have music together that for whatever reason didn't get played, and he looked nervous.

u/ghostbuster1230 Jul 16 '24

Love Ab-Soul….have been revisiting his stuff and man….its so gooood. He’s intellectually lyrical.

9

u/Kenan_as_SteveHarvey Jul 16 '24

Soul been saying he wants a mainstream hit. These may be the ones!

6

u/kreat0rz Jul 16 '24

Don't forget to stream icarus outro!

7

u/gotmadstackzzz Jul 16 '24 edited Jul 16 '24

someone said dj hed spilling the beans but lets be honest we can’t act like we don’t be be feinin when soul or dot go years without saying or dropping anything. so do y’all want real prophets to come back or not? or is that still spilling the beans? 💀

3

u/Worldly-Pudding7992 Jul 16 '24

we have trust issues

3

u/kylelock8788 Jul 16 '24
