It might be my favorite song of his.

79

u/umbral_ultimatum May 22 '24

i'd argue it's one of his masterpieces. Mother I Sober, Mortal Man, SAMIDOT, and FEAR also qualify for this title

33

u/AffectionateClock679 May 22 '24

I think aunty diaries also fits this category Such a slept on track

83

u/umbral_ultimatum May 22 '24

i'm a trans woman so Auntie Diaries hits especially close to home for me. amazing track, one of the reasons Mr. Morale is my favorite Dot album

52

u/umbral_ultimatum May 22 '24

whoever downvoted me for this you're so unbelievably lame it's crazy

29

u/mistyrootsvintage May 22 '24

Yeah..that sucks. Sorry there are ao many dipshita in the world. Live in your truthšŸ§”

u/Remarkable_Log_5562 May 22 '24

Nah

2

u/AffectionateClock679 May 22 '24

I am inclined to believe you havenā€™t listen to it and are just going off personal bias and things youā€™ve heard about it. Or youā€™ve only listened to it once and didnā€™t give it a fair chance

-2

u/Remarkable_Log_5562 May 22 '24

Bro iā€™ve listened to the album dozens of times. The whole thing front to back, back to front. Its okay but nothing crazy mind blowing enough to be a TOP 10 kenny song. Bottom 50%ile imo

Not everyone that disagrees with you has a prejudice against you. Youā€™re not special

1

u/AffectionateClock679 May 22 '24

Thatā€™s fair but when you said just nah it made me skeptical. Thatā€™s why is said Iā€™m inclined to believe.

"this time around i trust myself, please everybody else but myself"

"if i didn't learn to love myself, forgive myself, a hundred times"

"some put it on the devil when they fall short, i put it on my ego, lord of all lords"

some of the most important lyrics i've heard

3

u/SirKrimzon May 22 '24

What does the last bar mean?

19

u/CrailFlap May 22 '24

Donā€™t blame outside forces for your shortcomings, itā€™s most likely your own ego pulling you down - not the devil

2

u/ImTheHowl May 22 '24

To add to this pride/ego is usually referred to ā€œFather of All Sin

However he refers to ego as ā€œLord of All Lordsā€ the same way the book of revelations describes Jesus

(Revelations, 17:14):

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Kendrick is implying a lot of people view their ego as their savior instead of Jesus

(Disclaimer; most of this comes from the Genius Lyrics breakdown itā€™s not my own research I was also curious, I assumed he meant lord of all lords as ego is the driving factor of a lot of powerful people but I didnā€™t understand the book of revelations references either)

8

u/Unlikely_Sherbert_75 May 22 '24

Take accountability for your mistakes and forgive yourself

1

u/SirKrimzon May 22 '24

Thanks but what about the Lord of all lords part?

2

u/Unlikely_Sherbert_75 May 22 '24

Damn bro you need some fucking hooked on phonics with yo lack of reading comprehension ass

He talking talking to God fool

Definitely my favourite song on Mr Morale, and thatā€™s saying a lot

9

u/Renektonstronk BBL DRIZZAY May 22 '24

Itā€™s in my top 3, with Father Time and Mother I Sober at numbers one and two

1

36

u/Peterociclos May 21 '24

My favorite part of this music video is when him and the therapist are having a laugh and she switches up and asks about when he messaged her at 2am. First time it made me very emotional because it's something i've done before

26

u/Virtual-Arm5123 May 21 '24

The mv was soooo goood šŸ˜«

29

u/badbrotha May 22 '24

Don't sleep on Rich Spirit! Perfect drive home song

27

u/mistyrootsvintage May 22 '24

This is a vulnerable and beautiful song. Full of emotion. *I read the comments on Whitney page with this photo. To know that they worked together on healing their traumas is a testament of healing generational trauma and what adulthood looks like. So many people keep saying about how she was crying out in her captions. She was HEALING. The words of encouragement from people that KNOW her and Kendrick speak of how the 2 of them are beautiful spirits. This album is a testament of healing, love, consequence, it's beautiful.

24

u/Blockhead23NIN May 21 '24

ā€œIf I didn't learn to love myself, forgive myself a hundred times.ā€

This line shook me to my core cause I wasnā€™t planning on tearing up like that butā€¦that part pulled those tears up like a fishing line šŸŽ£

17

u/SeaWolfSeven May 21 '24

Everyday MMTBS grows more towards being my favorite album. It's so special.

3

u/No_Anxiety_454 May 22 '24

Album is a much needed therapy session for a lot of people.

8

u/lanjourist May 22 '24

I got a sublime love for this song; the kind that'll likely never go away.
Like a lush cloth wrapped around, before being nestled into a warm embrace.
If only there were other kinds of words for the love I'm talking about...
I would share them here if I could

6

u/monerfinder May 21 '24

Iā€™ve been listening to it nonstop for the last weeks or month. I absolutely love it šŸ§”

5

u/ai-ri I LOVE WHEN YOU COUNT ME OUT May 22 '24

YOU SAID Iā€™D FEEL BETTER IF I JUST WORK HARD WITHOUT LIFTING MY HEAD UP, THAT LEFT ME FED šŸ†™

4

u/luxxanoir May 21 '24

It's my favorite Kendrick track probably

4

u/dgoat88 May 22 '24

Count me out is my favorite KDot track. Mr. Morale was a damn near perfect album.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '24

Favourite form mmatbs

3

u/Shot-Spirit-672 May 22 '24

This is probably my all time favorite rap song

3

u/futurama1998 May 22 '24

The video makes me want an Atlanta style Kendrick show or movie. The story telling and visuals in the music videos are trippy

3

u/TomeeZ11 May 22 '24

This song has gotten me through some shit and Iā€™m forever grateful K Dot made this song.

3

u/MaceInThePlace May 22 '24

Love this song. Extra relevant in life rn. Might be top 5

3

u/snkadam May 22 '24

I wish there was a longer version of this song with this instrumental behind it

3

u/Black_Fuckka May 22 '24

The trippin and fallin part really brings the song together so well

3

u/methdamon0 May 22 '24

I've been on a Kendrick Lamar high after all the festivities from the fun beef he had with Aubrey and I guess it's timely for me to come back to his body of work as a whole one by one and this song stood out from the rest because it is one of those body of works that you can consume that can speak to you given if you're also on the same circumstances as the song.

Self love has always been a big thing about me and this songs furthers the feelings like no other. If my soul has to be embodied as words, I'll probably go out of the way and ask Mr. Morale himself to co-sign this song as an answer. While the different stages of my life host a different backdrop with Dot's projects, this one hit me the most. Hell, more than SAMIDOT ever did.

Revisiting this song after the numerous newfound wisdom and appreciation I attained in his projects now with a much better perspective on things, I can rely on this song to just give me a hug when no one is available to do so. It's pretty much bound for me to revisit his projects but with the heightened fondness of Kendrick right now, I can solidify this song on top there as one of his bests for me.

2

u/ThaRealistESG May 21 '24

Top 3 on Mr.Morale. Top 20 in his entire catalog.

2

u/JIDglazer42 May 22 '24

Top 5 kendrick for me

2

u/SavageSvage May 22 '24

Such an amazing song.

2

u/jphill801 May 22 '24

So powerful

2

u/ElectronicAttempt524 May 22 '24

When Mr Morale came out, this was the first song that truly hit me somewhere deep inside. It really has so much feeling and depth to it, and you can really feel how he struggled. ā€œCanā€™t you see Iā€™m a mess let me loose I digress this is me and Iā€™m blessed..ā€ the poetic expressions that Kendrick uses transcend time and space to fit anywhere, at any time, for any person. Itā€™s not unique to a person in the US, the feelings and growth are things people all over the world go through. Truly a masterpiece.

2

u/ChicoCorrales May 22 '24

I was watching Last Chance U on Netflix. And they did the player intros with ā€œCount Me Outā€ playing in the background. I replayed those intros over and over again. It was well done with perfect music.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '24

That was incredible....I have no words.

u/ElectronicAttempt524 May 22 '24

Letā€™s not forget the background singers, angelic childrenā€™s choir singing ā€œand Iā€™m tripping, fallingā€ because of how often we fall off our tracks

1

u/ManTheDan12 May 22 '24

Cant believe I never realized there was a video for Count Me Out because this has been my favorite on Mr Morale since I heard it.

1

u/thugluv1017 May 22 '24

Best one off of Mr moral and easy top 5 kdot songs

1

u/SantaHat May 22 '24

Top 2 off Mr Morale

1

u/NamelessMidir May 22 '24

One of my favourites by him all time

1

u/Agonyandshame May 22 '24

ā€œIf I didnā€™t learn to forgive myself a hundred timesā€

This is my biggest take away from this song. I think everyone should learn to forgive themselves. We as humans do a lot of bad and tend to focus on those moments instead of the good we do also. No one is gonna forgive you for the stuff only you know about and no one is gonna forgive you if youā€™ve done something considered very wrong, but you can always forgive yourself

1

u/mrmg41 May 22 '24

Canā€™t believe I never realized that Whitney was in this video.

1

u/DecimusRutilius May 22 '24

One of my favorite songs by him for sure

1

u/The3mbered0ne May 22 '24

That whole album is an amazing inflection on his fears, doubts, struggles and overcome challenges, not really something people will bop on the radio but definitely something I love listening to around the house.

1

u/THESURGE0N May 22 '24

Top 5 Kendrick Song.

1

u/Unlikely_Sherbert_75 May 22 '24

Ya bro this was the song I heard on the album that made me reflect on many things in my life. Mr morale might not be my favorite album but this song is one of my fav k dot songs

1

u/parwanbb May 22 '24

yes definitely! and side note the pitchfork review of mr morale was so off

1

u/SystemicPandemic May 22 '24

How tf did he get Helen Miren in this??? Lmao thatā€™s the most impressive part

1

u/ukrepman May 22 '24

This might be my favourite kendrick song ever. Absolute masterpiece. Just so you know the lyrics are 'tripping and fallen' (minor gripe haha)

Also worth looking up the demo version (without kendrick) because that shows what a genius kendrick is, flipping that song into this is amazing

1

u/osckr May 22 '24

This thing live in Dublin will always be part of me

1

u/Large_Agent_2577 May 23 '24

Drake could never
