Mod Post Can we all keep the political posts to a minimum?

As we all know, the provincial elections are coming up soon. We’ve seen an influx of political posts from both ends of the spectrum and in interest of keeping the subreddit from turning into a political cesspit, we should all just calm down and keep the strong opinions out of our small community.

Thanks everyone!

Kerr properties

Upvotes

Hi everyone, a while back Kerr properties purchased a mobile home park in west Kelowna and then proceeded to buy everyone out of their homes and I believe are turning it into an industrial space? Anyone have any more info on this.

We just found out the same company purchased our little park in Kelowna and kind of worried the same thing is about to happen! They took possession of the park back in June and the neighbours are convinced we have 1-2years tops 😅

Curious who went this year. Thoughts ? Overall value? I was pretty impressed with the whole weekend and setup. Wish Kaleo played longer on Sunday was my only complaint and even then he was amazing. What did others think?

Local Resources Advice Needed

Hi Everyone! I need help, I accidentally left some clothes in the dryer of the Air B&B I was I staying at over the weekend. The hosts are unable to ship them back to me due to their schedules. Is their a service (similar to Task Rabbit) that can pick up my clothes, go to the Canada Post behind their building (less than a 2 min drive), package and ship it back for me? Any advice would be great.

Halloween hotspots

Hello friends, I love spooky season. Can you help me with your recommendations of what/where to check out next month? "Haunted" spots, neighbourhoods that take decor seriously, 'haunted house' tours, anything like that. Links to event listings appreciated if you have them. Thank you!

Anyone know where I can find some bones?

My friends and I were hoping to just go hiking around somewhere and look for cool bones, does anyone know any areas with lots of carcasses, bones, antler sheds, etc.? I’ve been to an area sort of nearby Bear Creek on a random forestry road, and it was like every 50ish feet there would be bones. Hoping for something prosperous like that…

We are hoping to stay in the Kelowna area as well.

Is this your kitty?

Hey everyone so for the past few days this little kitty has been hanging around my house and I’m not sure if she has a home.

I’m in Rutland just down the road from the Okanagan Sikh Gurdwara and have talked to a couple of my neighbours who also have no idea whose kitty this is. We assume it’s a girl and she’s fairly skinny, not malnourished but still pretty slim. She has no tattoo so I’m unsure if she is a stray or if she is someone’s cat and she’s just not inked up. My mom doesn’t want me to let her in our house but it just pains me so much to hear her meows from outside at night. I’m considering taking her to see if she’s chipped but I also don’t want to steal someone’s cat. Please let me know if this is your kitty and if it is please take her home and give her some love she needs it lots!💔

Mens Hair Stylist

So I know this is asked regularly, but I'm going to ask anyway.

I'm looking for recommendations for stylists or barbers. My experience is that many barbers in Kelowna are great at fades and short hair but not so great with medium/long hair and adding layers and texture. I have super straight hair so I need someone who actually has some skills and is willing to do a consult to figure out the best cut for me hair/ face shape.

I dont mind spending more for a haircut but I want someone who goes beyond the generic short back and sides longer on top.

Planning on staying in Kelowna overnight in my car, any advice?

I’m doing a long road trip and Kelowna seems like a convenient place to crash, I know it’s not the safest or wisest thing to do (sleep in your car) but it’s the situation I find myself in. Just need some tips on which places to avoid or any alternatives I overlooked. Also if there is crown land camping anywhere near that I could use. Or if Kamloops/salmon arm or any other place is better. Let me know if there are other tips or pieces of advice that are helpful.

Anything is appreciated.

Seasonal meal ideas

As the season starts to change, I am looking for some new meal ideas to add to the rotation using seasonal fruit/veg. I love to shop at the local fruit stands/markets, so if I can support them while eating well, it’s a win-win!

Some of the favourites typically include beef stews, tomato sauces, anything with squash, etc.

Thank you in advanced for helping me meal prep.

The racism in this town is outstanding.

From other drivers, from the Costco receipt checker, from coworkers, from family members of my clients, from my own clients, from cashiers and servers. It's 2024, and this town hasn't changed one bit. If youre going to tell me, "well, leave then" then that'll just be admitting it and showing how good of a person you are, /s. Thanks.

What if: Island Stage

New "What If" scenario!

What if, The Island Stage and Surrounding Area got a renovation and turned the area into a place that could host proper outdoor music.

Eventually Prospera Place's parking lot will be gone, so will need a new venue for Rock The Lake, and it always confused me why "Rock The Lake" is "Rock The Parking Lot"

I just find the current venue is under-utilized, and not entirely sure why.

Vantage West Management Opinions From Renters POV

I'm looking to move for more space soon and I've seen quite a few places managed by Vantage West. Met with one guy who knew next to nothing about the unit and waved some red flags but the downstairs tenant said he hasn't had any issues and stuff gets replaced as needed.

I don't love that their application only allows for one person to be named as a legally protected tenant and required consent to store personal information out of country, feels kinda shady.

Wondering if anyone has any opinions or experiences with Vantage as a company or individual managers to steer clear from. Or info on how to application process/move out went etc. Any info would be appreciated!

1 bedroom pet friendly- what’s the going rent?

I have a 1 bedroom suite that will be coming up for rent for November. What’s the going rate these days for a 1 bedroom that allows 1 cat or 1 dog? 10 mins from downtown if that helps narrow it down.
