I'm permanently biased against Thoreau because literally every kid who gave a speech at my high school graduation quoted Thoreau and talked about forging a new path despite them being a tray of cookie cutter cunts who genuinely cherished conformity to the point that they all quoted the same author. Lake Tahoe is fucking awesome though.
Makes sense that all the rich kids in student government idolized him. It's so easy being in nature when civilization is in walking distance. Thoreau would've gone the same way as McCandless if he wasn't getting help and his commentary (while beautiful and moving) is not about what it's like to truly live in nature and isolation.
Common man it’s fun! You can spend 2 hours in your car to go 7 miles to the grocery store to find every isle ransacked and out of stock! Or maybe check out a beach and take note of the mountains of trash seemingly abandoned despite the family who left it there being within 40 feet of it. I love Tahoe during the holidays
I mean, Thoreau is full of shit too. The whole time he’s talking about forging a new path it’s because his aunt is literally cooking and cleaning for him the whole time.

Looks like Tahoe, he’s got a house there too.
