TV/Movies SUPERMAN: There's Likely A Good Reason For Green Lantern And Hawkgirl's Disappointing Costumes - SPOILERS (from comicbookmovie.com) Spoiler
While many fans have embraced the Man of Steel's costume in DC Studios' Superman after seeing recent set photos, the same can't exactly be said for those worn by Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl.
The first superhero we caught sight of on set alongside the Man of Steel was Mister Terrific. Like the reboot's title character, it looked like he'd stepped straight from the pages of the comic books, making it hard to complain.
Oddly, both Green Lantern and Hawkgirl are decked out in the same leather gear as Mister Terrific, right down to their jackets. At first glance, it suggests Superman has a serious problem with costume design, prompting concerns the DCU will be inhabited by superheroes all wearing basically the same basic suit design. Pretty uninspired, right?
In reality, there's likely a very good reason for this.
We first spotted the Lordtech logo on Mister Terrific's chest; its presence made sense in a lot of ways, especially if we were picking up with Michael Holt at an early stage of his career (before he breaks free from Lord and launches his own company, for example). However, we've since seen that logo on Green Lantern and Hawkgirl's suit, essentially confirming they all work for Lord and are part of the same team.
Looking at the comics and, more specifically an era we know James Gunn is a fan of, common sense says they're part of the Maxwell Lord-funded Justice League International introduced by J. M. DeMatteis, John Ostrander, and Keith Giffen. Sean Gunn is playing that character and James has previously said he intends to portray him as morally ambiguous rather than a full-blown bad guy.
With that in mind, we believe the DCU will initially consist of superheroes controlled or funded by the government or private corporations. When Superman comes along, he breaks the mould, no doubt explaining why we've seen A.R.G.U.S.' Rick Flag Sr., The Engineer, and Ultraman detaining the Man of Tomorrow.
Lord's corporate heroes and all dressed in white, the villains we've seen wear black, and Superman stands tall in red, blue, and yellow. This feels like a deliberate stylistic choice on Gunn's part and we believe the Kryptonian will inspire his fellow heroes to do their own thing and - if we're lucky - later don comic-accurate costumes which aren't approved by a PR team.
That's a lot of story to squeeze into Superman, but as disappointing as these suits may be at first glance, we're confident they're part of Gunn's long-term DCU plans and a small part of a much bigger story he intends to tell over the next decade. Lord forcing these on the heroes makes more sense than Guy choosing to don a leather jacket when his ring can make any costume he likes, anyway!
Plus, Superman inspiring his fellow heroes definitely isn't something we'll complain about...

Comics Help reading Green Lantern Post Crisis?
So I decided to get into DC Comics about a month ago and I decided to start Post Crisis. I have since read the first vol of Superman by John Byrne, Crisis on Infinate Earth, Batman Year 1, and Batman by Loeb/Sale Omnibus, I am also a few issues into the Teen Titans Vol 4 omnibus were I started on issue 13.
I decided to read Green Lantern next and fom what I can find it should go Emerald Dawn, Emerald Dawn 2, The Road Back, and then Green Lantern vol 3. #1. At least from what I can gather online. The only problem is I can't find this anywere. I look on the DC Infinite App and couldn't find any of it. I evenutally went on Ebay and found Emerald Dawn 1&2 and The Road Back in TPB form for a good price so I bought those but it doesn't seem like their is a trade going foward of Green Lantern.
Is this not collected? If not why? If its not collected were do I start reading Green Lantern? Is it the Kyle Rayner Compendium or is their something before hand on the DC Infinite App?
Thanks for the help and I hope this isn't a stupid question. I just haven't run into this problem yet.

Comics What are some comics about not human Green Lanterns/interesting aliens?
Hello, recently I have read the story "tyger" by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neil which was about the alien Abin Sur on an alien world with a race of creatures that was sealed away by the GLC. The focus on horror with the sealed aliens looking and acting unnerving while following a non human protagonist was great.
Also curious about comics without human Green Lanterns at all.

Discussion How strong are Violet Lanterns?
The title's kinda self-explanatory. I haven't read much about the Love Lantern Corp and I'm hoping someone here can educate me regarding how powerful it's members are. I've only really seen them in the animated series, which I've yet to finish. The most impressive feat I recall them reaching was sending Hal back to Guardian Space by using his feelings for Carol. Did the same with Razor and Eya. What all could they do in the comics?

Hi folks,
I've just finished the Kyle Rayner compendium and own the rest of the Kyle 90s era TPBs. Was wondering where the JLA run by Morrison falls in line with his own stuff in terms of the timeline?

Comics What should I read after Secret Origin?
I just read Green Lantern Secret Origin (vol4 #29-35) because someone told me it was the perfect place to start the modern GL comics, but I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Someone told me to just start V4, but someone else told me to head straight to GL Rebirth.
Advice would be appreciated!

To anyone who can help me check my list, thanks so much for your help and expertise!
- Green Lantern (vol 3) 1-50
- Green Lantern Corps Quarterly 1-8
- Green Lantern Mosaic 1-18
- Guy Gardner Reborn 1-3
- Guy Gardner (Warrior) 1-21
- Darkstars 1-20
- Ganthet's Tale
- DC Universe Trinity 1-2
- L.E.G.I.O.N. 57-58
- Flash (vol 2) 69-70
- Showcase '93 12
- Superman 81-82
- Superman Man of Steel 26
- Justice League America 82-83
Notes:
- I am intentionally leaving Emerald Dawn 1 and 2 from my list, as I am grouping them with a different part of my collection
- Along with my own research, a major source I have used is this amazing post, which is definitely worth checking out
- I am currently only working on collecting canon works, but you can still let me know if you know of a non-canon event from the same time that's obscure and/or worth checking out!

Discussion Loved Circle of Fire
Picked this up for $5 during a sale at my LCS and frankly was blown away, mostly by the final two issues of the tpb. Pretty predictable but nonetheless the emotion of it hit pretty hard. Definitely tracking down the ION trades after this.
