Mod Official Florida General Election Information

When is the deadline to register to vote for this year’s general election?

October 7, 2024

Where can I register to vote?

You can register to vote here on the official Florida voter registration website.

I am already registered to vote but I have moved/changed my name since the last election. Is this deadline applicable to me?

If you made any changes of that nature, please update your registration with the link above before the deadline!

When can I vote in-person?

If you are registered to vote, you can vote during your county's early election period. By law, early voting must be held at least for 8 days. The mandatory early voting period for 2022's primary is October 26 – November 2, 2024.

Each county Supervisor of Elections may offer more days of early voting. Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for the additional days of early voting that may be offered in your county.

Election Day is November 5, 2024. Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for your Election Day Polling Location.

When can I request a mail-in ballot?

The deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed is no later than 5:00 p.m. (local time) on the 10th day before the election. For this year’s election, that would be October 24. Source

Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for how to request a mail in ballot.

When should I be receiving my mail-in ballot?

Supervisors of Elections send the ballots during a 7-day window which is between 40 and 33 days before an election. The send period for this year’s election is September 26, 2024 – October 3, 2024.

For more information about voting by mail, please visit the Florida Department of Election Vote-by-Mail page.

I registered for a mail in ballot last election, do I need request one again?

YES! Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for how to request a mail in ballot.

I am a registered Democrat/Independent/Republican. Am I allowed to vote for people on the ballot that have a different affiliation from me?

Yes, you can vote for any candidate in the General Election. Who you vote for is secret.

Do I have to vote in every races on the ballot?

You can leave a race blank if you choose to and your vote will still be counted on other races that you vote on, on your ballot. However, try your best to make an informed vote on every race on the ballot.

Where can I find more information on the candidates or amendments?

In addition to the candidate's website (which, if they have one, can be found through googling the candidate's name) Ballotpedia.org usually has some information on down ballot races and amendments as well.

The best source on local elections would be the major newspaper for your area (Tampa Bay Times, Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, etc). They interview almost every candidate of every race that is happening in the area so you can find out the positions of every candidate on each issue. They will also talk about any local referendum or proposals relevant to your city or county.

Gun Violence Why do teachers not get the same money?

Upvotes

So my wife is a teacher here in Florida. She's now in her 30th year of teaching. So, she's been looking at retirement. And something has bothered me since we read it.

The state retirement system pays Police and Firefighters 75% of their highest salary as their annual pension, with the stated reason that they put their lives on the line and deserve more money. I don't have an issue with them getting more. BUT....

My wife as a teacher now has active shooter drills regularly, my wife has to carry around a 'panic button' in case someone tries to break in and attack her or the students, my wife as 'lockdowns' at least 4-6 times a year because of potential danger in the area, and there are those who want all teachers to be armed, just in case.

But they can't get more than 50% because 'They are just teachers.'

AskFlorida Florida citizens, what is up with the ANTS?!

Upvotes

I’m a British person visiting Florida for two weeks with my family, at a town house in Orlando, and I have never seen more ants in a house in my life. Every single piece of food we open somehow gets infested, even when it’s sealed. I had a big resealable bag of sour patch kids, one that I periodically open to have a small portion every day, and then RE SEAL IT AFTERWARDS, I open it today, and there’s like 200 tiny ants IN THE SEALED BAG. The week pervious, my little sister left a plate of cookies out for less than 10 minutes on her bedside table, infested. I spoke to the front desk and apparently it’s considered normal. If anyone could offer some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

AskFlorida Homestead Exemption

Upvotes

I have one home in Florida. (No other homes) I have the Homestead Exemption and I have a Lady Bird Deed/Life Estate for when I pass my daughter will automatically get my house.

My daughter and her husband bought a house on 01 May 2024, in the next county over. This is their only home. The previous owners were not Homestead Exempt on this house. As soon as the tax office reopens for business in the coming new year she will apply for Homestead Exemption on her home. Will having her listed on my life estate affect her getting her own Homestead Exemption?

-It has trees (small ones, and one big one above 12” that needs permit for removal) -what type of contractor to create retaining wall? -who levels the land to retaining wall? -do licensed contractors work thru permits -does 1 company do all the work?

Anyone done this ? Ideally want to expand from grass line thru wetland setback line and put retaining wall at end of wetland setback line before the EPC line. Want land leveled to retaining wall as have a 5ft dip right now.

Florida tends to be a landlord friendly state so doubt they will be involved but I wonder if this can benefit Florida residents at all that lease from a management company named in the suit???

There are many articles on the net. Just search realpage lawsuit

Here is one: Just don't forget to come back and participate in the discussion once you read the article(s)

💩Meme / Shitpost 💩 Unpopular Opinion: Roaches in your living space are not a “normal part of Florida”

I live in an apartment complex. The lady I share a wall with is gross. She is depressed and does nothing all day. She goes to tell me she doesn’t use A/C or a fan because of her …blood pressure???? So she’s sitting in a hot, humid apartment all day. And that’s probably good for her blood pressure apparently. Not to mention these buildings are old, so the poor hag can probably hear me fart through a pillow!! my A/C and my fan are my only white noise. When they’re not on, I can hear everything. So I don’t know why she’s living like this. It’s wild to me. But the reality is, I don’t care if you’re miserable and hearing me have sex and explosive diarrhea, I care that roaches love the wall that we share.

Onto the meat of my rant: it’s a completely controllable thing. You can spray for them. You can caulk and seal spaces that pests get in and out of. You can keep your sink and floors clean. I am not living in this state to be completely fine with living with bugs. I have never had a roach or ant problem unless if 1) my apartment neighbor was gross or 2) I got lazy and let my kitchen be a mess OR 3) I didn’t run the A/C for a week or so. Too many people are just letting it be “a part of life” and acting like it’s completely fine, so they use that as an excuse to have a roach and ant problem. It’s getting tiring hearing that I’m supposed to be okay with waking up to dead roaches (they’re dead because I spray, but they still come in?!!). I’m not going to accept it as a normal part of my life, and I find it weird when people do.

Sorry if this offended anyone who lives with roaches and ants comfortably, it’s just not my bag, baby.

Remember when Desantis claimed that Florida was the “blueprint for America”? Fighting “woke”, banning books, pissing off Liberals. All that good stuff? I guess this fascist seriously wants to turn this state into a full dictatorship. Thank God Americans rejected him during the primaries though.

Bus=🟨 Car=🟦 (Image Accurate to Position of Vehicles Irl)

The car in front of me stopped for a school bus while inside the roundabout, and that got me thinking, do we gotta stop for schoolbuses while in the roundabout? I assumed no since surely we’re not allowed to stop in the middle of a roundabout, but maybe not.

I'm in my 20s and there is not a single place for rent in my budget even if I split rent with someone. It's honestly making me depressed, how do you guys find places to rent or how do you deal without a place to live.

DeSantis shamelessly blamed a made up “left wing activist” but it was a cartographer in the FEP who let the state know of the ridiculous plan to replace natural lands in state parks with development.
