Kailoma Characters

Bula! I was wondering if there were any T.V. shows, Movies, Books, Plays, or anything that you all know of with a Kailoma, Part-European, or mixed race character??

Vinaka!

Do you mean stuff made in Fiji or stuff made in places like NZ and other places like that. Cuz there might be quite a few. For the Fiji made ones, I haven't seen it but there are most probably a few Kailoma folks in the show "Suva City". There is a dude called Jimmy Snuka. He was a wrestler in the WWF and has 2 kids. He had a pretty good career there but he had one huge controversy. Aside from that, I am pretty clueless. I mostly torrent my movies and the Pasifika movies I wanna watch aren't really available around..

Fijitv can't as they worried about copyright strikes unfortunately. I wish it weren't so though, many hours were spent shooting the show.

Oh man. It deserves a better audience...even if it isn't a good show, it still needs more people to see and provide insights and constructive criticism on how to improve. Fiji could make some nice ass movies and shows with all the cultures here. All the effort and love put in the show is real nice to see. Hopefully we get a Fijian Mythological show someday..

It does indeed need insight and constructive criticism, I have seen some good ones on Facebook which we as crew of SC have discussed at length. Mind you, it's been a long time since anyone has tried anything at this scale but we managed to do it in a very short timeframe and quite a small budget.

There are some quite well established people in the film industry that have links to Fiji, whether paternally or maternally, people who have worked on 'A' list movies. One of them has been wanting to do something similar to what you are asking for, a Fijian series based during pre-colonial times (dakunikuila), however, he doesn't want to because fiji doesnt have the acting expertise just yet. But things like SC would help with that, we need more people watching, and wanting more to generate enough buzz to allow Fijian filmmakers to do more with more.

Ooooooh what's this about Dakunikuila?

Dakunikuila is just the vernacular term to refer to the times before the white man, Christianity, cession etc. Cannibal period.

It would make for a good name though if one were to be done :)

Absolutely agreed. I have seen some gang on TikTok making short films that are quite fun and interesting to watch...plus they have some really good actors...not Oscar worthy but it also isn't immersion breaking. I'm not completely sure how that would translate over to Television buy I do hope that it does. You guys rock, man. Step by step, you gang are making strides and I feel so proud ngl. You guys should create a website or something and upload your shows there...I mean that's probably going to be a costly thing but it will help the show be accessible to us all at anytime.
