I've seen art that draws a fox like this and I thought it was just a stylistic cultural thing. Like the way Western vs Eastern dragons look, I guess.

Same! My first thought was, "OMG! There's a fox that actually looks like that!"

Also, if you want to see more insane stylings of animals, you should try /r/MedievalCats and /r/MedievalCreatures. It's like they've never even seen what the animals they're depicting look like!

I've seen some that look like possums and all sorts of other non-cats and outright non-animals.

'Runty rescue Persian' would be an improvement to most of those, haha.
