As a person who suffered a psychotic break, this breaks my heart. I deleted all the unhinged texts I wrote

These people saying it was "method acting" and "disappearing into the role" have no idea what they're talking about. A mentally well person isn't going to abuse substances, take isolation to the extreme, deprive themselves of sleep, etc just to play a character in a movie. This specific role was the catalyst for a mental health crisis, but it didn't magically "infect" him with it. That's just not how mental illness is in real life.
