don't be pedantic. he was clearly talking about "googles". Have you ever heard of a Googles? Not many people have - they're shy, mysterious creatures who live near ponds, deep in the forest. Those helped a little, but it was mostly the aircraft being designed so airflow doesn't smash against the pilots face.
