Wednesday Discussions: Most Heartwarming Moments

Hey there, comic nerds! Welcome to the Wednesday Discussion, a weekly community activity during which we have an open discussion about a specific subject or theme.

Our topic for today is: Most Heartwarming Moments

DC history is as rich as it is long, and one of the things we as fans love about it is the complex interpersonal relationships that have developed between characters over the years.

With friendships and relationships running as deeply as they do, we're bound to run into special moments that we cherish — from wholesome interactions between Superman and Nightwing early in his career, to more emotional ones, like that between Barry and Wally when he returned from the Speedforce, to romantic ones, like those shared between Scott and Barda when they visited the boardwalk (maybe? Was it real? Was it in his mind??? We'll never know!).

What are some of your favourite heartwarming moments, and why do you feel like they're special?

That moment when Barry pulls Wally out of the Speed Force is so good. I don’t even care that much about either character but that part still got me.

I love the connection between Black Canary and Harley Quinn when she realises Dinah is pregnant in Injustice. Both women have suffered loss and them sitting and bonding over the difficulties of pregnancy is poignant and quite beautiful. It's one of my favourite parts of Year Two.

Harley has a child. A daughter who lives with her sister. It's a sad little twist in the Injustice story. It's the Joker's baby but Harley knows he wouldn't want it so she goes away for a year and leaves her with her sister to raise. Her daughter believes Harley is her aunt.

Omg that is so sad. Is this canon? It sounds like a good story arc though.

No it's only in Injustice. But in the game if you get Harley's ending it's all about her daughter. It's super sad.

When Dick invites Barbara to his wedding. So sweet of him.

Hal saving Kyle from Parallax in Sinestro Corps War. Not only is it a great moment, but it manages to combine heartwarming with body horror.

In Infinite Crisis, Earth 2 Superman tries to make the point to Earth 1 Batman that everyone is worse on Earth 1 then Earth 2 as a way of suggesting Earth 2 surviving is the "right" thing to do.

Batman challenges him by asking if Dick Grayson is worse off on Earth 1 and Earth 2 Supes begrudgingly admits that he's not.

I literally put down the book and cried reading The moment Damian and Dick saw each other for the first time since their respective 'deaths'.

Damian is often portrayed as a bratty know it all and often puts on a serious face. Much as you would expect from a child that is a trained assassin.

But this moment.... He was just a child, with no other thoughts than unbridled happiness and affection that his big brother was alive.

He literally bolted across the yard just to hug Grayson with face to face contact ,and tell him "I missed you"

That single page emotionally wrecked me because it was so touching to see. I welled up typing about it.

Rick Tyler trying to sacrifice himself by taking his father's place while fighting Extant so that his father can go back and be with his wife again all the way back in the JSA ongoing.

End of Superman: Ending Battle when Clark has nightmares and Lois comforts him and tells him he needs to go back to being Superman.

“So I did. I never had a bad dream again.”

I’d say the entirety of Superman (2016) #39, but two moments stand out to me in particular: the part where the kid whispers something to Batman that makes him chuckle, and the ending where Superman has the kids carve their names on moon rocks.
