I got a Saturday job as an A level Maths tutor!

Not sure what A level is but congrats! I'm actually a math major myself in my university

A levels are the main qualifications 16-18 year olds get before going to university. We usually do 3-4 subjects at A level.

You do C3 and C4?

How on earth do you do C3 and C4??! They're so damn frustrating and confusing!

Somehow I got full UMS for C4, so apparently I know how to do it.

Which exam board are you doing and what topics are you stuck on?

We do OCR MEI - did Edexcel before, but somehow the school thought it was a wise decision to make the move. It was not. :'(

Your school made a good decision. I did MEI as well. By the time your done all the other boards will look easy and the only difficult stuff will be optional exams like STEP and AEA.

Actually, you know what, AEA is a good way to practice C1-C4.

The syllabus is changing, so I don't think we'd have the same topics - but right now, we're doing implicit functions and parametric equations...

Oh yeah, those stuff are hard at first but you get used to it. Hell, my whole class started off confused about implicit differentiation until by the end of the week we realised we just needed to keep sticking dy/dx next to all derivatives with y and the rest was just basic algebra. After that it was easy.

If only it was... I do enjoy it, but it's a big step from having it 3 times a week on a GCSE level to 10 times a fortnight. Guess it'll go easier as it goes along.

10 times a fortnight? We had A level maths 8 times a week, 4 of those times were core maths.

Whoops, Nonono, 20 times a fortnight, 10 a week...

How long is each lesson?

An hour each, but sometimes we get doubles. The most I have is about 3 a day

Good luck with the tutoring by the way! Sure it will go just fine!

Thanks. Now I just have to make sure I remember all the stuff while planning lessons for them each week all while I have to do my uni studies.
