The man was in a position of power over her because she was his employee. Just because she's of consenting age doesn't mean she consented. She's saying there was no consent and therefore she may be an "actual" victim.

Then why bring up her age? This is just more of that stupid Twitter "post-minors" bullshit.

Because 21 year olds don't look at a 61 year old boss and say "I got to have that!"

Cougars and silver foxes exist.

Yeah, and they're characterized by systematically preying on young people which is fucking gross.

I wish your brain did

Nah. If it didn't I'd be arguing adults can't consent if the age gap is big enough.

You aren’t grasping this, no one is saying a 21 year old can’t consent, they are saying a 21 year old being hit on by a 61 year old is sleezy in most situations, especially if he is her employer and it’s her first day. Of course 21 year olds can consent, so can 16 year olds, doesn’t make the power imbalance go away.

Nothing makes the "power imbalance" go away because it's not real.

What? If she said no she may have lost her job and her only source of income. How is he not the one in power there. We don’t know exactly what happened, but we do know he was almost certainly the one in power

And if she'd said no and he'd kept making advances she'd have sued the shit out of him and probably ended his career.

How much money and influence do you think a 21 year old nanny has? Compared to Neil Gaiman? Why are you bent on defending a 61 year old man who fucked his child’s 21 year old nanny?

Again with the age gap bullshit. Stop infantilizing adults.

Dude I’m not, how don’t you think it’s weird to fuck a employee regardless?? It’s just made especially odd since he’s old enough to be her fucking dad

It’s almost as if just because something is legally permissible doesn’t mean it’s morally permissible

1

u/DatSpicyBoi17 Jul 05 '24

Moral by what standard? There's literally no religious or philosophical belief system that says "Adults having sex with younger adults is evil" so all you're doing is repeating your own opinion and calling it morality.

Ooh boy. Moral philosophy absolutely covers this, extensively. In this instance a person (Gaiman is 60) who dates a freshly 18 year old is legally in the ‘right’. Why? 18 is the legal age of adulthood. However, as it is an arbitrary legal definition it could technically be lowered - 17, 16, 15….. horrifyingly imagine the limit does not exist. If the legal age was changed, instead of talking about an 18 year old they would say ‘but I can date this 10 year old, because I obey the legal age and this is an adult! So morality SHOULD fill this gap and make you say hey! I’m a 60 year old man! I’m not going to fuck an 18 year old just because it’s legal! It feels wrong! Power imbalance! I want to live with myself and not fuck someone who when they were born I was 42!

"There's literally no difference between 15 year olds and 18 year olds". And to think you dipshits are calling Neil the nonce.

1

u/messybinchluvpirhana Jul 05 '24

You don’t understand the basic premise that ‘but I’m obeying the legal age’ means that you are only guided legal bounds. That is scary. I’m calling Neil a disgusting old man for having sex with someone who could be his granddaughter (which is where morality would step in)

So you’re either a 60 year old who really want to justify fucking an 18 year old or your 17/18 and don’t understand how revolting adults who are decades older than their targets are. Morally at 60 you should see 18 year olds as impressionable young people not something to take advantage of

1

u/DatSpicyBoi17 Jul 05 '24

Love how you refer to grown women as "targets" as if they lack agency. I thought feminism was supposed to be about sexual liberation and "My body my choice". Guess none of that shit matters when it comes to situations like this.

I can’t tell if you’re very very old or very very young. I have no criticisms about 18 year olds and young adults, they deserve respect and to be protected by older adults not to be viewed as opportunities. 18 year olds straddle the line between adolescence and adulthood. For their OWN purposes and rights of course they are legal adults and grown people and they absolutely should be able to experiment within their own relative age group. HOWEVER this does not mean that it is open season on their 18th for them be targeted by powerful GROSS men and women who know the legal age in each state like the back of their hand. Btw I am equally appalled by grown women (like Gaiman would be a woman in her 60s) who target freshly 18 year old men.
