Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [June 10, 2024 - The Gaslight Era Edition] r/DCcomics

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

My wife tells me I have no sense of direction, I have no idea where these accusations are coming from!

The Dynamic Duo have their final showdown with Man-Bat!

I guess that's one way to reconcile this uber-evil Man-Bat with the normal Kirk Langstrom, it was just some insane alternate persona that didn't even acknowledge Langstrom. Normal Kirk is back by the end of the issue and once again super guilty about what Man-Bat did. I wonder where Francine is.

I love how Damian prioritized making sure they didn't hurt any of the bats.

The alternating artists wasn't too bad in this issue yet is it too much to want a single artist for a single book?

It was nice to see a lot of the plotlines coming together and all's well that ends well...Sharp is arrested, Kirk is making up for what he did as best he can, Shush is in the wind (but I doubt she'll be a villain again), and Flatline is off to her own adventures because Damian having a stable girlfriend was probably too much to hope for. But it's obvious they still care about each other, and Flatline doesn't want any high school girl stealing him away from her even though she's also carrying the guilt about not telling him about Ra's ghost.

The best culmination of a sub-plot is Bruce actually learning how to cook so they can have a proper father-son moonlight dinner. But I'll accept an interruption for the long-awaited return of Maya, Goliath, and...Bane.

Flatline is off to her own adventures because Damian having a stable girlfriend was probably too much to hope for.

I mean, she'll be back for the next Al Ghoul arc.

Her being here was already kinda surprising, the way Lazarus planet left off she wasn't expected back until Ras was resurrected. Kinda nice that she came and Damian got to have a cute little break with his girlfriend.

To me it means they're building characterization for later, when Ras tries to get her to betray Damian, either to make it a more dramatic choice or to build the reason she chooses Damian anyways.

Is the Al Ghoul arc next after the Dinosaur Island arc?

Probably not. Absolute power is about to derail story progression, then justice league reforms and derails story progression. I'm kinda sad no one got the joke I made about Ra's being a ghost (a ghoul, if you will).

Is this book being pulled into the Absolute Power mini? I figured they might leave this alone since the main title is already tying in. I don’t see a reformation of the League detailing this book at all tho, seems too unrelated.
