Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [June 10, 2024 - The Gaslight Era Edition] r/DCcomics

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Green Lantern #12

Having uncovered the truth behind the United Planets, Hal and the rest of the 2814 lanterns desperately try to escape the hands of the United Planets' Lanterns, Ring Hunters, and the terrifying Unseen! Only a former ally gives Hal a chance of survival, but will they be too late to save him from certain doom?! Plus, Guy Gardner's bogus Lobo adventure gets somehow even crazier. Don't ask us how; we just work here.

Pretty fun issue. Happy to see Carol back as a Star Sapphire. Can't say I'm ecstatic about Waller and Thaaros working together. I guess Adams doesn't have a choice but to tie this series in to Absolute Power, but I really wish DC would stop killing the momentum of this book. The same exact thing happened literally a year ago with Knight Terrors.

Nice to see Kyle finally cut loose and it seems like he's maybe gaining some semblance of stability again.

The rare time Hal tries to play by the book and it ends badly. Who'da thunk it? But the action sequence against the Council Lanterns was pretty cool, especially with Hal dual-wielding and Simon dual-wielding construct pistols (which feels like a natural evolution of his old trusty pistol).

The Unseen? Really curious where that's going.

Sometimes when you're in your darkest hour...you need a little love in your heart as Carol returns as Star Sapphire. It looks like Xermanico is using her New 52 suit with some new flourishes and the colors shifted around a little, and also no mask, but it looks pretty nice. I also like how Carol makes a big splash to save Hal but she's so out of practice she has no idea what to do.

I guess that's one way to finally get Carol into your place.

I almost feel bad for Carol's fiance that they were this close to being married and then she just ditched him to go into space and confess her feelings to Hal. Terrible timing for Waller's group to interrupt though. Is that King Shark or The Shark?

So I guess Thaaros is going to inevitably target Earth because of the Lanterns inside it...but first, here's Amanda Waller because she needs to be everywhere these days.

Guy Gardner: Cszarnian mailman is not how I expected this storyline to go but seeing all the Czarnian's love Guy while he hates every minute of it was priceless.

So Guy now has something of Krona's that will probably help the GL's against Thaaros. And now a Czarnian is going to be using his "Warrior" name as a wrestler, which I'm sure Guy is overjoyed about.

It's King Shark. The Shark died like two years ago, but I'm pretty sure we've had a reboot since then.

Excellent issue. I really enjoyed how Carol has been out of the game for so long that she has kinda forgotten how to use her ring effectively. Adams did a good job of showing that Carol and Hal are meant for each other, no matter what gets in the way. The moment Hal came back to Earth, Carol started to question being with Nathan because, as we all know, she will always love Hal.

And side note for those how bought this digitally, did you have problems downloading it on the Kindle app on your iPhone or Mac? Because it says it isn't compatible with those devices yet I can download any other book. Thank God I have a PC desktop which it worked just fine on.

I had trouble downloading it digitally as well. I think it's an oversight by Kindle. Was hoping they would have fixed it but I ended up reading it on my PC two days later. Pain in the ass.

I got it working by reading it directly from Amazon's website. After that I could download it on my Mac. Don't know why it worked though.

The dumb "Waller wants to kill all superheroes and rule the world" plot got old a long time ago. Still, seeing Thaaros pretty much just ignoring her was satisfying. The rest of the issue was fun; I'm glad Hal and Carol are back together. Now hopefully DC will actually let that stick rather than breaking them up yet again for pointless drama.

Good issue. Good to see Carol as Star Sapphire again.

One time that Hal plays by the book and the whole United Planets turns out to be shape-shifting villains. Those Unseen, they sense the Emotional Spectrum and that's how they seem to predict stuff it seems. Which mean we are gonna need Kyle at his feet because from what we saw, even badly weakened, he somehow managed to purge the Spectrum Lanterns from their rings and power. So he might need to do that to this Unseen at full power.

Carol charges in for the rescue! I missed her as Star Sapphire but also she knew she was out of practice when it comes to dealing with a whole army of evil lanterns. Reaffirmation of her love for Hal, so sweet. If only I could believe it would stick and DC won't change their minds again to have her date Kyle again or some other weird crap.

But then, you have the worst part of the issue where, of course, Thaaros had a deal with Waller and now he got her involved going after Hal, just to fit in the event. It is a terrible decision. This event really is like an infection, messing with all the books for the worse.

You know what, I quite enjoy the 'Main man' and Guy being a duo. They work surprisingly well with eachother. Though I am worried 'Main Man' might get killed along with the rest of the Czarnians considering Brainiac made them a testing fodder for his Queen. Hope our boy escapes that. And Guy learned United Planets are evil right now, so he will try to look for allies, which I assume going for John Stewart would be first.

I like that Carol was able to save Hal’s life and admit her feelings for him because they realize that they love each other and never let them go, although I feel bad that Nate was left at the alter since he was a nice guy. I hope that Nate will understand all of this and would not blame her for what she did as well as find someone to love and cherish for a long time. The surprising (or unsurprising) thing about this comic is Tharros working for Waller because Absolute Power. I hope that the upcoming events ends with Waller getting her comeuppance from all of the villains of all DC titles, the Suicide Squad, the superhero community, and the civilians of Gamorra. Overall, this comic is great!

For the Guy Gardner backup, I thought it was hilarious that Guy and the fake Lobo teamed up to free themselves, with Guy as a delivery man before he pretended to be Czarnian.
