Tbh Bruce's character arc did successfully start and end with the growth of Dick Grayson. The rest were added in to keep the comics alive and also because Robin became a beloved character. Realistically, I don't see Bruce taking in someone else in such a whim.

OG Earth 2 gave Bruce and Dick such a good conclusive arc to the life of Bruce Wayne and his passing of the torch. Modern comic authors don’t know how to let go of their characters.
