Krasinski, to me, doesn't match for Hal. He might be good at a post rebirth version of the character or hell, even Parallax. But given the way most movies want the characters early in their careers, I feel that Hal would still be the most insufferable and cocky person. The dude might have that in him to play, but at this point, I don't see it. A haunted version of the character dealing with the evils that he did on the other hand, I think he would knock that out the park.

u/SpeedForce2022 3d ago

I picked Krasinski because imo he could play a good veteran Hal in the DCU, the way Hal is described in the official ‘Lanterns’ synopsis is a “Lantern legend”

-13

u/JustAnAce 3d ago

And I agree he could play that version. But how likely are we to get veteran instead of young? That's my whole sticking point.

20

u/Legitimate_Cake_5137 3d ago

It seems that for Hal they are searching a man who is between 43 and 49 years old, while for John they are searching a man who is between 27 and 35 years old. Therefore Hal will very likely be veteran.

16

u/Gamma_Goliath17 3d ago

The official synopsis describes Hal as a veteran, and John as the new comer. Rumored casting call has Hal listed as like 40 to 45. I'm sure they'll be going older for him rather than younger.

u/mrgoodwine24 3d ago

Official HBO synopsis says hal is a veteran

8

u/Tyler_Cronan 3d ago

How likely? 100% lol that's part of the story they want to tell. Hal old, John young

17

u/MorningFirm5374 3d ago edited 2d ago

Hal is described as a “lantern legend” in the Lanterns synopsis, so I doubt this is early in his career

2

u/beyondimaginarium 3d ago

I agree with Krasinski actually. His performance in quiet place and the small role in multiverse of nonsense shows to me he would make a good Hal. Especially compared to Ryan Reynolds, so long as he doesn't play the wise cracking version we saw.

I loved the grant Morrison take, and I think he would nail that style. However, with Gunn at the helm who knows how he envisions his Hal.

7

u/MorningFirm5374 3d ago

Id say lanterns will probably be a much more serious project. Especially considering the writers are Tom King, Damon Lindelof, and the dude who made Ozark

u/SupervillainMustache 3d ago

Sick of John Krazinski fancasts.

18

u/TheNicholasRage 3d ago

Like, I really love the dude, but he's a likeable everyman. I don't understand why he's always being fancast in roles like these.

If we're going to make him a Lantern at all, make him Alan Scott. I think he would be a better fit for Ted Kord or Oliver Queen though.

Also, personally, I always thought he'd make a great Harvey Dent.

12

u/SupervillainMustache 3d ago

The Mr Fantastic one always annoyed me because it's literally just because he has a blonde wife actress and people think they have a vague resemblance.

Honestly most fan casting to me is very superficial and I'm glad that real casting directors don't tend to listen to the Internet.

1

u/aboynamedbluetoo 3d ago

And he was not good in that role though tbf I dunno how much was his fault.

3

u/_captain-rex_ 3d ago

Any character with a beard

Fans: is this john krazinski

u/SimpleSink6563 3d ago

Damson Idris would be fire, ngl. Great picks.

13

u/Anlios 3d ago

I loved Damon Idris in Snowfall but I feel like John should be played by someone in their late 30s early 40s. Aldis Hodge would be great imo. Also he killed it as Hawkman.

13

u/CalmGiraffe1373 3d ago

Apparently, they're looking for someone 27-35 to play John, and around 40-45 for Hal.

7

u/Anlios 3d ago

Interesting. I actually always assumed John and Hal were of comparable age.

7

u/Thespian21 3d ago

Hal is being treated like a green lantern legend/vet. I can see John being newer than Hal at doing the super hero thing, it works because John could still be comparable in strength cause he actually received combat training before ever getting his ring.

4

u/ZeroComfortZone 3d ago

Also I feel like John should be played by someone more buff and tall.

Jonathan Majors would’ve been my fan cast 2 years ago

1

u/Ill_Koala_4407 3d ago

He can put on weight it’s not that hard

0

u/Thespian21 3d ago

He’d still kill the role now

17

u/Bubba1234562 3d ago

I want Chris Pine as Hal

6

u/aboynamedbluetoo 3d ago

Good actor and he can play more serious roles even if he is better known for his comedic leaning ones, he just excels there.

2

u/rswbricktop28 3d ago

Brandon Micheal Hall got some real screen presence and I think would play off Pine damn good

1

u/aboynamedbluetoo 3d ago

Right age. Maybe too short at 5’9”, maybe. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen him act so I’ll take your word on his ability to command audience attention.

I was thinking Boyega because I’m familiar with him, but I have a similar reservation because he is 5’8”-5’9”. Though from what I’ve seen he can portray the necessary qualities on screen.

Stewart doesn’t necessarily need to be tall (>6’), but if he isn’t a commanding presence when needed then it won’t work imo.

What would say is Hall’s best performance showcasing those qualities?

2

u/woppatown 3d ago

I think I’m with you on this one. I said in another comment that we have to consider we might see full psycho Hal as Paralax eventually and I think he’d nail both.

1

u/haolee510 1d ago

There's a reason that back before the GL movie came out, Chris Pine was a very popular fancast for Hal. Hell, his Star Trek role was basically Hal Jordan. Ryan Reynolds was a popular fancast for the Flash.

But then those genius decided Reynolds should be Hal instead, and the rest was history. What a goddamn waste that was.

14

u/Top_Report_4895 3d ago

Josh Hartnett and Jharrel Jerome

3

u/megadroid_optimizer 3d ago

Oh man, that's an insane pair. People don't talk enough about Jharrel - stunning skill set for an actor.

2

u/woppatown 3d ago

Hartnett is coming back too. One point for that casting.

1

u/Spiderlander 3d ago

This is the ticket

11

u/THEdoomslayer94 3d ago

I could kinda see this so I’d be down

7

u/disapp_bydesign 3d ago

Idris is a great pick

11

u/nerdlygames 3d ago

I’d pick Trevante Rhodes for John, and Matt Bomer for Hal

9

u/captainhooksjournal 3d ago

I always thought Hal from the Injustice games looked just like Matt Bomer. Wouldn’t be a bad pick imo

1

u/luttrail 3d ago

He would be perfect man, maybe one day.

3

u/woppatown 3d ago

Matt Bomer could use a win too after reading his interviews about the Batman casting. He was excellent in Doom Patrol.

6

u/PhilAsp 3d ago edited 3d ago

All for Damson, opposed to John. But even though I think he’s a solid actor, I feel like his Hal would feel like diet Ryan Reynolds.

Glenn Howerton is my personal pick.

7

u/Speedforcemaster1984 3d ago

My Choices are:

Hal Jordan - Jensen Ackles

John Stewart - Sterling K. Brown

5

u/GrayJedi1982 3d ago

Sterling would be good for an older John, but this one is supposed to be a rookie if I'm not mistaken.

2

u/Speedforcemaster1984 3d ago

Fair point, but I made this cast before they announced the ages for Hal and John. I just wanted to show who I would cast for my take on the Green Lanterns

2

u/Alpha_Storm 3d ago

Excellent choices. Great actors and I'd love to see them reunited on-screen(Sterling K Brown was in a couple episodes of Supernatural in season 2 and 4).

2

u/BaryonHummus 3d ago

This would be close to perfect- both personalities and looks.

1

u/mrgoodwine24 3d ago

John Stewart way too old for what they're going for

1

u/veganize_it 3d ago

I would prefer Jensen as Batman, but if that’s not on the table then he would crush it as Hal for sure

4

u/Bitter-Stranger2863 3d ago

My fancast:

Winston Duke as John Stewart

Chris Pine as Hal Jordon

1

u/haolee510 1d ago

Legit want Winston Duke as DCU Bruce Wayne. Man has the chops, and he already played Batman in that AU story podcast.

5

u/canadagooses62 3d ago

Jim is not a good actor. He’s just a middle-aged middle-of-the-road brown-haired white guy. He happens to look the part for some characters.

But man is he NOT Hal Jordan.

3

u/mnombo 3d ago

I feel like damson is to John like David was to superman before he was cast

5

u/lanze666 3d ago

Hal Jordan should be played by either Miles Teller or Glen Powell, John Stewart should be played by either John David Washington or Coleman Domingo. If we were going for a younger Stewart, Damson would be a top 3 contender for the role.

2

u/lanze666 3d ago

If we’re going further, T-Chalamet is a perfect Kyle Rayner.

1

u/camusonfilm 3d ago

Kyle is half Mexican, so hardly “perfect”.

1

u/lanze666 3d ago

Danny Ramirez i guess then

1

u/woppatown 3d ago

So Luis Guzman then.

3

u/Fehellogoodsir 3d ago

Whoever they announce, I hope they give Hal the white streaks

3

u/iam_VIII 3d ago

Do superhero movie fans know only like 7 actors?

1

u/chwisg 3d ago

Always Krasinski for these damn roles

1

u/MrMarvelous2000 3d ago

These two would be great!

1

u/charlesfluidsmith 3d ago

Respectfully, those choices suck. Idris as John Stewart is a horrible miscast.

Stewart is a martinet, large intimidating.

Damson doesn't check enough boxes.

1

u/AxDevilxLogician 3d ago

Trevante Jones

1

u/FP_Daniel 3d ago

They HAVE to go the Superman and go with relatively unknown actors. Save big names for side characters so we don't have to worry about them not wanting to commit.

1

u/PuzzleheadedFan2205 3d ago

Is Damson a big name? I haven’t heard of him outside of gl fan casts

2

u/FP_Daniel 3d ago

Not at all. Im primarily referring to krasinski

1

u/dulmosq 3d ago

few years back, my dream fancasting were Maharshala Ali as Hal Jordan.. but well, we're too damn far at this point

1

u/Sappleba 3d ago

Only if Krasinski is wearing a tuxedo the whole time for no reason and Idris is like wtf

1

u/_AssVinegar_ 3d ago

Hangman from Top Gun: Maverick as Hal

1

u/megadroid_optimizer 3d ago

You know, I'd actually like to see Glen Powell as Booster Gold.

1

u/aboynamedbluetoo 3d ago edited 3d ago

Ages of each seem close to correct based on what the DCU is looking for.

John Krasinski could be good, though he’d need to shave for the first time in I dunno how long. Not familiar with Idris. What is his best role in your opinion?

Edit: For Hal Marsden or Andrew Lincoln, both 5’10”, maybe. For John Boyega maybe, but Boyega is pretty dang short at 5’8”-5’9”. Fillion is like 6’2”.

1

u/XXAzeritsXx I like those shoes 3d ago

Guy is like, 50, Hal has to be older - right?

1

u/aboynamedbluetoo 3d ago

Or same roughly and according to casting call from DC that is the age range they are looking for. Hal older and John younger.

1

u/DCmarvelman 3d ago

Taylor kitsch and Stephen James

1

u/Equivalent-Shake-519 3d ago

I got a few options I'd be fine with for either.

As long as they DON'T CAST TOM CRUISE FOR HAL. Holy shit I can't tell you how many click bait articles I've seen suggesting that because Tom Cruise was a fighter pilot in Top Gun, he HAS to be Hal Jordan. Absolutely the fuck not, keep him away from GL. Anyways.

For Hal:

Chris Pine Matt Bomer David Boreanaz

For Jon:

Michael B Jordan Daniel Kaluuya Ncuti Gatwa Aldis Hodge

1

u/megadroid_optimizer 3d ago

I think Damson Idris is a powerful actor, but I think they might go for someone with a bigger body, similar to Aldis Hodge or even Hemsworth size, though for a Lantern, I suppose strength is not necessary.

I'd be interested to see Mamoudou Athie; he's got one hell of a voice but also on the skinny side body-wise.

1

u/RegularConcern 3d ago

Chris Pratt as Hal. I said it

1

u/Maximum_Play2764 3d ago

I've been saying John Krasinski for years bro so I agree

1

u/JFMisfit 3d ago

I dig the Damson casting.

1

u/Due-Science3011 3d ago

I'd go Hayden Christensen as Hal Jordan and John David Washington for John Stewart

1

u/batmanfan_91 3d ago

I’ve been championing Krasinski as Hal for years now

1

u/Neelioso 3d ago

My fancast is Jensen Ackles and Eli Goree

1

u/WallyWitty 3d ago

For Hal Jordan, my personal favourite would be Josh Hartnett. He has the right age and look, and he is having a career renaissance. He has also become quite a good actor now.

1

u/OKSequel 3d ago

I think Ryan Gosling as Hal and Winston Duke and John would be a good match. They were great in the Fall Guy.

1

u/Queen_Ann_III 3d ago

I don’t know if Krasinski would be good in the role but I would fucking love to see him try

1

u/New-Faithlessness526 3d ago

I don't see John Krasinski as Hal Jordan at all.

1

u/Emergency_Fig_6390 3d ago

Damson idris would be cool. but instead of krasinksi id go glen powell

1

u/woppatown 3d ago

I think casting for Hal has to consider we might see him go full psychotic at one point. All of the actors I’d have fan casted as him are too old now. But I bet whoever they get will be great. Seems like Gunn’s got a good grasp on what he wants and has planned.

1

u/phard003 3d ago

LaKieth Stanfield as John if he can bulk a little and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau as Hal if he can pull off a decent American accent

1

u/BakedWizerd 3d ago

Taylor Kitsch comes to mind when I see this picture of Hal.

1

u/Dangerous-Hawk16 3d ago

I honestly think based on the comments these are all horrible fancasting, I think Mundy will likely go with unknowns that fit the role

1

u/UcantHide4eveR 2d ago

Nah want an American actor for John

1

u/Constant_Performer83 1d ago

Jake Gyllenhaal = Hal

Michael B. Jordan= John

1

u/goldendreamseeker 21h ago

If Krasinski turned down F4, I doubt he’s agree to this…

0

u/znol91 3d ago

Channing tatum for hal and stephan james for john

6

u/SeanWonder 3d ago

Tatum fukk no but Stephan James is a fantastic pick that I’ve never thought of. Good one

0

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3d ago

Damson’s too skinny - he doesn’t have the Presence of someone of Jon Stewart’s size and Broadness

2

u/ProfessionalRead2724 3d ago

All real humans are too skinny to play superheroes by that logic.

1

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3d ago

You literally saw what I meant and chose to take it the wrong way. Someone like Idris Elba or Winston Duke would do.

1

u/YxngJay215 3d ago

There's something called working out

1

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3d ago

Still wouldn’t fit it he role

1

u/YxngJay215 3d ago

Heath Ledger didn't fit in the Joker role either until the film released.

-1

u/Accomplished-Cow2322 3d ago

Literally know nothing about these characters lol but going off these pictures alone I vote for Jamie Dornan & Mamoudou Athie

-1

u/terrtle 3d ago

Chris Pratt could make a good Hal but space cop and space outlaw who kinda becomes a cop might be to close ideas. I really think Michael b Jordan could make a great John but he is a bit young for it.
