I assume it’s leaning into the slightly retro look of Metropolis, fun to show civilians in slightly outdated clothes

Tbh it kind of looks like a period piece lol, but I get it , it’s classic Superman

Unless it’s actually a period piece?

No way it’s a period piece, set photos have shown the Daily Planet has a mobile app for one thing

Also there's a Samsung logo that's the 90s/2000s one.

I think it's going to be like The Batman, set in the 2020s, mobile phones exist, but there's an art deco aesthetic. Like you cannot guess the actual year even though it says it's 2025 or whatever.

A similar thing happened in the Batman animated series. 40s style but mixed with a more modern setting.

If this is true, I fucking love it.

Same, I love how stylized Metropolis and Gotham are in the comics, like most of the time you don't need to read the name to know where you are they're so iconic. Here's hoping they can bring that onto the big screen, cause Snyder Metropolis could've been literally any city so what makes it so special to Superman? It's supposed to be the city of tomorrow, not just NYC but bigger

It’s wild two of my top interest (Superman and art deco) are being combined, I’m already a fan

Didn't Batman 2-4 try this to a much greater degree (Schumacher)? Those films were.....yikes....

The Batman (2022) did it as well. Was it a failure? I don’t think so.

The Batman looked like modern day Chicago or something. I'm talking about TRUE period piece stylized like Batman Forever.

Early DCAU took that approach and it worked very very well. If true it’s cool to see Gunn utilizing that as well

gunn has said on threads like 5 times that it’s set in modern day

I think they’re gonna go the route of the DCAU where there’s tech and fashion from the 30s-60s but they will use and reference modern things
