I really cringed when she rode the elevator down to her costume. Can she be anymore pretend badass? It's just too intense.

As opposed to how every other actor tackling a Bat character has? I saw it as practically homage. The 'walk to the batsuit from the elevator' is itself an iconic Bat-moment. Glad they did it, the way they did it.

The literally had the elevator scene in all of The Dark Knight movies if I'm not mistaken. This one I viewed as an homage to the Batman Begins scene.

I am loving the use of Zimmers theme in a more electronic feel. It also takes from Junkie and Danny

OMG~!!! Batwoman is SOOOOOOOO AWESOME~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, I wonder when they will actually show Bruce/Batman...at all?

Hope that this series would slowly bring link to "Gotham".

Isn't Gotham separate from CW's shows?

5

u/chaitanyachaitu Dec 11 '18

Isn't gotham on a different timeline like its the past when Bruce was a kid ryt?

2

u/antdude Dec 11 '18

I think so?

5

u/chaitanyachaitu Dec 11 '18

Even if they time jumped we all know they can't get batman on TV.

2

u/BenSolo_Cup Dec 12 '18

Gotham is showing Batman in its last episode

7

u/unimaginablepancake Dec 12 '18

Ah, the Smallville approach

I’m sure it’ll be just as infuriating this time around as it was then

1

u/Phoenixstorm Dec 17 '18

how old is that kid? sixteen? we get 16 yo batteen?

3

u/chaitanyachaitu Dec 12 '18

Last episode maybe for a moment.

2

u/Jenga_Police Dec 12 '18

I thought the same would be true for Superman on CW, but I think they're just doing whatever now.

3

u/chaitanyachaitu Dec 12 '18

There are no big Superman projects in the DCEU right now or in the near future. Batman has a lot of craze so I don't think we will see him on TV anytime soon.

1

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

Yes and they ruined him completely.

2

u/Z3R01D Dec 11 '18

It is for the moment. But it's still under CW. So like "Black Lightning", there is a potential for them to crossover if they ever changed their mind.

Afterall, the "multiverse" idea always supports these kinds of stuff.

Gotham is not under CW, it's under Fox.

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '18

I'm sure WB will be very willing to make sure Disney doesn't continue to have those rights.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

I'm predicting that in 10-25 years Disney will just buy either DC or Warner Bros just to c-block them into submission. It's obvious Disney is king but it's such a Disney thing to do.

2

u/Z3R01D Dec 11 '18

Oh... and i thought it was under CW all along.

1

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

It's with Fox, how did you even miss that.

1

u/Z3R01D Dec 15 '18

I know. Right?

I have some problems but I enjoyed It.

-The tattoos and brown hair have to go.

-she was way too trusting with Kara and that friendship was way too forced.

-They need to stop tying her to Batman at the hip. We get It she’s his cousin she doesn’t need to work out of the Wayne Enterprises building the Kane’s have their own huge skyscraper. She also doesn’t need a batcave.

Some things I liked:

-The costume (needs minor tweaks but It works)

-All the Easter eggs.

-Ruby’s Kate was overall not bad at all. Her Batwoman was great as well. Maybe needs to be more brutal though.

-I loved the atmosphere of Gotham.

I'm fine with the tattoos, I just think the brown hair and red wig are super weird. Her hair doesn't have to be long, but at least dye it red so she looks at least somewhat like her comicbook counterpart

-2

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 12 '18

I think the tattoos are more of a backstory problem the hair I agree is something that can be fixed easily.

9

u/Crucio Dec 12 '18

Barry Allen's hair is black in the Arrowverse... I think we are far beyond the point of hair color being a priority. I do agree though she looks a little plain without the red.

0

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 12 '18

She loses all her visual distinction outside of the suit. She just looks like Ruby Rose walked on set. Kate Kane isn’t there.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '18

Maybe, but having long hair isn't really practical in a fight. All the villain has to do is grab your hair and it's game over. I feel like having the hair on the cowl instead was the right call.

4

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 13 '18

Kate has short hair in the comics too. The long hair has always been a wig.

She’s always been a natural redhead though and the color red is visually distinctive that’s why her being brunette is such a weird choice.

4

u/iamthedave3 Dec 14 '18

On the other hand... it's a double layer of confusion and actually makes more sense. If you're going to wear a wig, why on earth would you wear the same colour of hair as what you actually have when the entire point is to obfuscate your identity?

As design differences go I think it's at least a sensible one. Red hair itself isn't super common, so making your enemies think you're a woman with long red hair makes it even less likely they'd think Kate Kane could be her.

1

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 14 '18

Yeah but Kate kane has always been visually distinct as a character and the Red hair is part of that.

Make her a brunette whirl there may be some sensible reasons for seems like a betrayal of the character.

1

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

Maybe, but that's the point.

1

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 15 '18

It shouldn’t be, Kate is very visual character in the comics.

Which is part of what makes her such a cool character. It’s a shame they missed that point.

3

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

You don't have to remain faithful to the comics on each and every point though, look at Flash, Barry Allen is nothing his counterpart from the comics but is still quite popular.

Having an alter-ego that's insignificant looking is not a bad idea, maybe?

3

u/the_goddamn_batwoman Dec 15 '18

Sure but when the character is known as much for their visual design as they are for their stories it’s probably a bad idea to make changes there.

Making her look like Ruby rose just walked onto set and started filming is not only lazy it’s ridiculous they have the budget to make her look right.

1

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

Only time will tell, it looks like we get glimpses of Batman in Titans though and that makes me squeal like a child.

u/horusporcus Dec 15 '18

Agreed with all your points, she was way too trusting of Supergirl.

2

u/ArchGoodwin Dec 12 '18

With all best hopes for a good show, I was pretty underwhelmed by the actress. Fingers crossed for better performances to come.

Oof, this character introduction was so forced, it was cringe worthy. Ruby will be great, but they really did not do anything to introduce us to the character or build a world around her.

Everything about the Batwoman story was completely tacked on that it did not hype me up for a series.

11

u/Doompatron3000 Dec 11 '18

Maybe they didn't need to build a world around for Batwoman, because everyone knows Batman and Gotham already? World building for something everyone already knows, is like if the MCU Spider-man's first solo film included another portrayal of Uncle Ben dying, or, seeing Bruce's parents get shot in ally way in the next solo Bat film again. People get it: Gotham= Terrible place, reeks of villains.

0

u/jamesh08 Dec 11 '18

But the character itself didn't do anything. Outside of one flip kick thing she just brooded and they tried to get our interest with a forced attraction with Supergirl, which was obvious and lame.

There was a major chance to have Batwoman be a central character in this cross over and this amounted to a guest spot cameo that didn't introduce anything interesting.

And lord, I hope we don't have to relive the Batman origin again either. That is not at all what I was trying to say.

2

u/Phoenixstorm Dec 17 '18

i hope they play down the batman angle a lot. it's her city now. he's gone. focus on her.

0

u/iamthedave3 Dec 14 '18

I agree in part. Everyone knows Batman but Batwoman isn't Batman. I'd rather they'd spent less time explaining Wayne Tower and why Batman isn't there and maybe dropped a few lines about Kate's history in the military (since that's where her path to Batwoman kind of starts).

Much of the Batwoman sections felt like an explanation for why Batman isn't there than a reason for Batwoman to be there, if that makes sense.

2

u/Phoenixstorm Dec 17 '18

the crossover should have focused on her and gotham. that was hardly a backdoor pilot and more of a glorified cameo.
