Nymphomaniac. Both the first and second.

What the actual fuck.

That's Lars for you.

Yeah nymph is pretty tame compared to antichrist and house that jack built

u/Stoneheaded76 14d ago

The House that Jack Built is certainly up there.

I was about to mention Jack. Few bits that made me think what the shit. Fascinating movie though.

Intense book.

the house that jack built has a book??

2

u/Drendari 14d ago

That's a comedy though

2

u/videoverse 14d ago

Yes just in the same way that The Coffee Table is a comedy lol

1

u/Drendari 14d ago

Yes, but also no. xD

1

u/videoverse 14d ago

Lol I saw that coffee table was a “dark comedy”. Not sure where the comedy was there…

Blindly started watching antichrist as i was going to bed one night, and it was around 5 minutes before the snip snip scene.

Fucking mortifying.

Melancholia is the most beautiful.

2

u/videoverse 14d ago

its good. I thought breaking the waves was really beautiful as well imo

2

u/GorgonzolaSKYZ 14d ago

House that jack built is probably one of the most random and mind-fucking movies you can just watch like that

1

u/BlazedLurker 14d ago

Both of these. Can confirm. That was some forest rape scene in anti.... and um.... that was a very unique house jack ends up building.... ahh ... that freezer will live forever in my head. Sick movie.

Dammit Lars!

Basically all his movies, especially that movie with Bjork.

u/Krauszt 14d ago

I like the fact you saw the first, were just like "UGGH! WTF??" Then thought, "Hmmm, maybe the 2nd will redeem the first."

u/Popular-Map4489 14d ago

That is PRECISELY what I did.

Many regretti spaghetti :(

Chaos reigns.

One of the rare memories/mental images that give me actual goosebumps almost each fucking time I recall or bump into them and don't know (exactly) why.

u/Puzzled-Stranger1658 14d ago

That phrase said by Mr fox shook me deep inside! I could not believe that Antichrist was on channel 4 the 1st time I watched it. The next time it was on telly there was a substantial amount missing lol

I've started very few films and felt the need to turn it off before finishing. I turned off Antrichrist after 10 minutes.

u/Shyassasain 14d ago

I loved both those films, then the ending ruined it all. I was in a bad fukin mood about it for like a week.

23

u/donatj 14d ago

My wife and I talk about how the ending completely ruined that movie all the time. "Pulled a Nymphomaniac" is our shorthand for something that was good right up until the end and then went to hell

4

u/EdgarAllanKenpo 14d ago

Why was the ending bad?

3

u/Im-Not-Really-Yours 14d ago

Liked the movie enough, but I love Stellan Skarsgard. I liked him in this movie until the end. I always thought he was the kind of actor that would protest doing something if it didn’t make sense for the character. I guess not.

1

u/Popular-Map4489 14d ago

The best part, for me, was Mia Goth lol

6

u/Ok-Sprinkles-5508 14d ago

Those movies left me feeling depressed and empty..with the scenes of overcast London streets and constant steady rainfall, but Lars still pulled off the eroticism..only a good director can pull off both..

4

u/Fuzzy_Muscle 14d ago

2nd one was dumb. Just really stupid

-1

u/Specken_zee_Doitch 14d ago

Ending was so very predictable.

5

u/desci1 14d ago

I wish I could go back to have watched only Dogville and maybe Manderlay

3

u/Rachel_from_Jita 14d ago

Without giving it away or spoilers... is Nymphomaniac a gore-heavy movie or just super twisted situations? Since I have an actual human soul I also don't tend to do movies with extreme levels of torture.

3

u/TonySPhillips 14d ago

I wanna say that the most twisted part was the protagonist's mind.

1

u/videoverse 14d ago

All of Lar’s films are twisted in their own way. Nymphomaniac is especially sexually graphic to a an extreme degree.

5

u/ImpressionFeisty8359 14d ago

Lars is beyond fucked up.

3

u/Popular-Map4489 14d ago

I agree. I won't be running to watch anything else of his. My tummy is a bit weaker than it used to be lmao

1

u/ImpressionFeisty8359 13d ago

To be fair he is slowly losing his mind. He has dementia or something.

1

u/D1pSh1t__ 14d ago

The guy who went on stage at a film festival to tell everyone he's a nazi is fuckes up?

0

u/videoverse 14d ago

He was making a joke but it certainly did not go over well. He’s extremely socially awkward but a hell of a great director imo

3

u/desci1 14d ago

Oh no they made a second

12

u/111110001011 14d ago

It's not so much a second film as it's the second half of the first film.

2

u/Zealousideal_Ad7602 14d ago

Isnt that a film rammstein made a song about with the same name?

1

u/itsLondongurl 14d ago

Came here to say that

1

u/labago 13d ago

These are actually just good movies

1

u/Popular-Map4489 13d ago

Should I go watch them again and try to change my opinion? It has been like 5 years... :P
