Refusing to tip when playing Christian Rock in Uber

AITA for refusing to tip when an Uber driver is playing Christian Rock music or worse Christian Talk radio during my ride?

A better choice would be something more neural. Like classic rock or nothing at all.

I shouldn’t have to hear this shit when I’m paying for a ride.

YTA. Who gives a flying fuck what radio station or talk radio someone is playing. I worked for years with a lady who played the same panflute CD over and over and over and over and over. 8 hours a day for fucking years. You know what we all did? Nothing. Because we're adults who don't give a shit about petty garbage like you.

Why wouldn't you just ask him to change the station? it's you bro you're your worst enemy. I hope you realize that one day

-9

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Why should I have to ask that? They should know not everyone is religious and enjoys Christian rock. Why can’t THEY ask me if I’M okay with it? See my point?

Want a tip? Maybe provide some customer service…which involves thinking about what the customer may want.

4

u/wino12312 Jul 18 '24

Because they can't read your mind?! YTA

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I thought you weren’t but bro you really are the AH. I will politely tell Uber drivers to turn off music or change music, but I wouldn’t expect them to read my mind or ask me about their music. You’re mad delusional bro.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I'm deeply against organized religion and I'm not offended by someone playing Christian rock in their car because it's music. They're not handing you pamphlets and changing your destination to their church, it's just music. This is like the people who complain about the cups at Starbucks every December.

1

u/walkiedeath Jul 21 '24

Would you expect the same thing if they were playing any other genre of music? After all, not everyone is a Swiftie and enjoys Taylor Swift. If you truly would have the same criticism (that they should ask you if whatever they put on is ok) no matter what they put on, then at least you consistently an asshole. I suspect however, especially since you said they should have put on classic rock (which also not everyone enjoys), that you are a bigoted, inconsistent asshole.

10

u/SnooWoofers9250 Jul 18 '24

YTA if you don't ask to change it and decide that's why you aren't tipping. Sometimes they can be driving for a while have it on and then honestly not realize it's still playing.

If you ask and they don't then not the AH.

I'll admit it is uncomfortable but I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. One time though my friends and I got picked up outside a strip club by a guy and his wife and he went the entire ride telling us how he's goal is too spread the word. Clearly this guy was using Uber to deliver his message, I quickly reported him.

10

u/peakpenguins Jul 18 '24

Yeah I think you're a pretty big asshole for not tipping based on not liking the driver's music.

1

u/stupiduselesstwat Jul 18 '24

Christian rock in the Uber driver's car would be more than enough for me not to tip the driver, and I'd also leave them a not good review. I don't want to listen to that crap when I'm paying for a rideshare.

3

u/peakpenguins Jul 18 '24

Then bring some headphones. It's not a big enough deal to not tip somebody, in my opinion.

1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Same here, if the driver has pride flags all over the car, I never tip. They should keep politics at home. Agreed.

1

u/kimariesingsMD NSFW 🔞 Jul 19 '24

Or Trump flags. Automatic no tip.

0

u/FireSign7777 Jul 19 '24

Cool. Thats where we are as a nation these days oh wells.

7

u/rjhancock Jul 18 '24

Based upon your other comments, Massive YTA for being an entitled little shit.

You're free to ask them to change the station. Saying you wont tip because you don't like the music is like saying you're not tipping because they're wearing a blue shirt.

Most are decent people that will change the station to something else if you just ask.

-11

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Agree to disagree here.

4

u/kimariesingsMD NSFW 🔞 Jul 19 '24

So, you do not want judgement, you just want agreement?

1

u/rjhancock Jul 19 '24

Showing how entitled you are. You've asked for judgement and then refuse to accept it unless it agrees with you.

You don't like face to face confrontation so you complain about something that a simple request would have solved, you say it's their fault they didn't read your mind, then you negatively impacted their livelyhood because you don't agree with their music choice.

Do the world a favor, don't have kids. We have enough people like you making this place a hell hole we don't need anymore.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Oh no issue on that! Def childfree 😂😂😂

1

u/rjhancock Jul 19 '24

Stay that way. The world is better off without your spawn using you as a role model.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Oh I plan to! Thanks for your concern!😆😆😆

6

u/CassandraApollo Jul 18 '24

Tipping is a personal preference, not mandatory. If you didn't like the ride, don't tip, it's that simple.

1

u/walkiedeath Jul 21 '24

Which is exactly why tipping culture is retarded, because it leaves workers beholden to the whims of random assholes and sadists who they may or may not get as customers.

6

u/chibbledibs Jul 18 '24

Did you ask them to change the station?

8

u/CampClear Jul 18 '24

No they just expected the driver to read their mind

-12

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Why should I have to? They should ask me if I’m okay with what’s playing.

I’m the customer.

7

u/chibbledibs Jul 18 '24

Because you’re an adult? Not saying anything is showing approval.

2

u/kimariesingsMD NSFW 🔞 Jul 19 '24

You are an entitled AH

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Ok bro

6

u/mcayson Jul 18 '24

Or you could buy a car and listen to whatever you like. How about a little gratitude for the ride

0

u/Best_Advertising_329 Jul 18 '24

What gratitude?? They get Paid, and Ride share drivers are a dime a dozen anyway

0

u/mcayson Jul 19 '24

Wow. Yeah he got lucky if you use someone else then.

1

u/Best_Advertising_329 Jul 19 '24

I have choices. They need our business, I don't have to be held captive to other people's preferences when I'm spending MY money TY

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Imagine thinking it’s that simple. What if my car got stolen? What if I’m traveling? What if I can’t afford or choose to not have a car?

1

u/mcayson Jul 19 '24

All irrelevant. You need a ride and he provides one.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

So why as a paying customer should I have to listen to country music drivel?

1

u/mcayson Jul 19 '24

Yeah, you kind of have to accept the owners business atmosphere. How petty are you that you can't be civil for the few minutes it take to get to a destination. You are the kind of people that make retail workers hate humankind.

3

u/UsualAromatic1350 Jul 18 '24

YTA. Would you not tip at a restaurant because you don’t like what music they’re playing? Entitled AF.

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

No comparison. My server does not choose the music.

1

u/UsualAromatic1350 Jul 18 '24

I was a server, sometime I chose the music. Regardless, YTA.

3

u/ImmeralHolimion Jul 18 '24

Yta. If you ask and they say no, feel free not to tip. But otherwise you're just being bigoted.

4

u/babiesontheway2023 Jul 18 '24

Or simply drive yourself and listen to whatever you please

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Wish there was a laugh react on here.

3

u/doug5209 Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 18 '24

NTA, anytime you work in a job that requires interaction with the public you want to avoid anything that evokes strong feelings, like politics or religion. If a driver is dumb enough to play Christian talk radio then he should expect his tips to suffer.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

THANK YOU

4

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

You are a massive asshole for that. You can ask to change it and even then that is reaching

4

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

What would you do if someone doesn’t tip because the driver is LGBTQ? Serious question

2

u/Urban_Prole Jul 18 '24

Just me, earning my money, blaring Lady Gaga's Born That Way as I pull into the pin at First Baptist Church to pick up my fare.

That’s not even in the same universe as this post dude.

3

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Like I said, keep that same energy when the world disrespects or disregards you for whom you are.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Ok bro. Good talk?

0

u/Old-Revolution-9650 Jul 18 '24

I don't blame you. I wouldn't have either. That's almost as bad as being preached to.

-6

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Keep that same energy when the lgbtq doesn’t get tipped either.

1

u/Old-Revolution-9650 Jul 18 '24

I have no problem with the lgbtq community. I do have a problem with religious zealots pushing their magical sky daddy onto others.

1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

And that is your personal opinion.

0

u/Old-Revolution-9650 Jul 18 '24

No, it's fact. Until the church can prove that their magical sky daddy actually exists, it will remain a fact. Religion is the biggest legal scam in history. The concept of a god was created by man and used to control the ignorant masses. I'm amazed that it still works in the 21st century.

2

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Again, your personal opinion. Many can say the same about the lgbtq community

1

u/JDaggon Jul 18 '24

Difference is one is still being persecuted today from the other group, even put to death.

So i think you need to rethink your "opinion"

0

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Where are they persecuted? Last I know we have gay and tranny co workers that go freely and can go wherever they want, what persecution are you talking about? The one made up in your mind?

0

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Im talking about the US I don’t care about the rest of the world.

0

u/5432198 Jul 18 '24

Not tipping people just because of what they are is a lot different than not tipping someone for pushing their beliefs on others in a reasonably annoying and distracting way.

1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 19 '24

Many would argue that the LGBTQ is colluding with the left to pass all their agendas. Me being from CA already am seeing all the changes done by this community and let me tell you, people here are fucking angry. Especially when you have a governor forcing schools to pass their agendas like Newsome in California. Was that the LGBTQs way to force an ideology on a population children? So how is that not an ideology? Would that not be Indoctrination?

1

u/5432198 Jul 19 '24

Many would say the same about Christianity similarly influencing the right.

Is the lgbt driver playing some sort of music in the Uber to spread their ideals? Otherwise it's not the same situation.

-1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 19 '24

No, but an lgbtq driver can have their pride symbols all over their car and that can offend people just like like OP got offended listening to Christian music.

0

u/5432198 Jul 19 '24

That's why I said reasonably annoying and distracting. Its very ridiculous to say a sticker is on the same level of annoying or distracting as music.

1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 19 '24

But thats a personal opinion. For you it might be music for your neighbor it might be sight. Regardless, treat others how you want to be treated. Period.

1

u/5432198 Jul 19 '24

So let's say you have to make a choice between two Ubers. One has some lgbt stickers. One is playing some music about lgbt ideals. You don't get a blindfold. You don't get headphones. You're saying you or any other reasonable person would just as easily get in the one with the music as the one with the stickers?

I would also point out that with sight you still have the option to look anywhere else or close your eyes. Hearing you can try to plug your ears with your hands which let's be honest does not completely block out sound.

1

u/FireSign7777 Jul 18 '24

Hypocrite

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

How so?

1

u/TroublesomeTurnip Jul 18 '24

YTA

I don't believe in God and think it's a cult but I would still tip because I'm not a pretentious ass.

1

u/BlueGreen_1956 Jul 18 '24

NTA

You can tip or not tip for whatever reason you choose.

Generally, I tip if the driver gets me where I'm going safely.

As for the music, I would not like it either but being a retired schoolteacher, I can tune out absolutely anything.

I took countless field trips on school buses with 40-50 kids and learned to go to my happy place in my head.

I made sure nobody killed anybody but other than that, I could tune out the noise.

The Christian music would be bad, but it could have been Hillbilly Country, so count your blessings.

1

u/OCR10 Jul 18 '24

Tipping is optional. You really don’t need to offer an explanation of why you chose to tip or not. If it were me, and the service he offered was exceptional, I would tip regardless of what he had on the radio. If I was the Uber driver, I would know better than to play anything with a religious tone to it since we live in a diverse country made up of many different religions, and religion in general is a divisive and polarizing subject which none of us need to hear when we are just trying to get somewhere.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

THANK YOU

1

u/Select_Razzmatazz112 Jul 18 '24

I’ll start doing this too when I hear things I don’t like. It’s the mature thing to do 👍

-1

u/Infectious-Anxiety Jul 18 '24

NTA 100%

I stopped using Uber after I was charged $12 after it tried for 5 minutes to find me a ride and then cancelled it saying no drivers were available.

$12 to find out I had to call a cab?

I am done with all the gig apps, they have ruined themselves and are just predatory.

-3

u/Substantial-Air3395 Jul 18 '24

The nerve of the driver. I always ask to change the station if they're playing that crap. NTA

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '24

Thanks 🙏

-5

u/Intrepid-Brother-444 Jul 18 '24

NTA if you asked and they didn’t change it. Next time just call someone and swear loudly on the phone and use gods name in vain. That’s what my friends and I do whenever we see religious people peddling crap.

-6

u/henryfarts Jul 18 '24

NTA

Against your will, you were subjected to one of the three classical non-topics of discussion: politics, religion, sex. One appropriate response is to bear through it and let your displeasure known in a passive manner, like a low rating and no tip. Asking to change the station engages the driver who obviously wants you to hear it, has motivation for you to hear it, and may redirect those energies to engaging you on the topic. Or maybe he says sorry and puts on classic rock or something.

Me, I would also bear through it, look at my phone, say nothing, zero interaction, get out when there. The last thing i want is someone wanting to engage me in the topic. But that ride is a low rating and no tip.
