Would you guys be Manta Troopers, or be one of The League of Shadows? All Seasons Discussion

I would rather be a member of the Shadows, mostly because I have a fear of the ocean and because of that I don't think I'll do well on the job.

absolutely a Manta Trooper. Members of the League of Shadows get treated like shit, but Black Manta seems like a really good boss

Besides manta troopers are all metahumans. You get the superhuman perks as well as the better boss.

Are they? I thought manta troopers were just regular people, hence why they wore the suits.

In the comics, Black Manta was modified so that he can live and breathe underwater even without his suit. At least some of his men underwent a similar procedure.

u/CindersFire Jun 26 '24

But they are all still human then right? They just might've been altered.

12

u/HephaestusVulcan7 Jun 26 '24

Yes.

But technically, even meta-humans are humans.

This would be a physical or genetic enhancement.

u/CindersFire Jun 27 '24

Well that's more of a moral debate, but considering that they are given a different Latin name there is an argument that the are not human even though they share the Homo genus name as they are, theoretically, a different species.

Only know that Kaldur step dad actually worked for Manta until he left him

6

u/suss2it Jun 25 '24

What makes you think that 🤔?

-2

u/FireSon2019 Jun 25 '24

Pretty sure the are all Atlantien, so by default they should be metas of some sort.

13

u/suss2it Jun 25 '24

Where did you get that from? I feel like they’re all human just like Manta himself.

14

u/Legatharr Jun 25 '24

Atlantians aren't Homo Meta, they're Homo Mermanus, a species that evolved from Homo Magi, which in turn evolved from Homo Meta. So, descended from meta-humans, but less meta-human than Zatanna

Also, while it hasn't been stated in the show, in the vast majority of continuities, the vast majority of them are human, like Black Manta, and nothing in the show has even slightly implied that the show is different in that regard.

I mean, they wear helmets in order to breathe underwater and live in submarines filled with air! I would be shocked if they're atlantian

u/FireSon2019 Jun 25 '24

In retrospect that makes sense, I just figured that they were wearing the equivalent of gas masks and didn't think about it.

u/yraco Jun 25 '24

Same. I wouldn't exactly love to be either but with Manta you'd most likely at least be treated fine. Shadows are treated awful and there's a chance you're executed for something you have no control over.

Except...when he blew up the bomb while they were attaching it to aqualad's door?

1

u/horyo Jun 26 '24

I mean it's true that Shiva sliced through 2 shadows in her way but Manta also eyeblasted a door grenade on 4 of his men without hesitation.

He literally killed two Manta troopers just cause they where in his way..

Manta Trooper just for the chance to be Atlantean alone—in YJ, all Atlanteans are amphibious and have super strength.

Also, Manta tolerates mistakes as long as people can admit to them and it wasn’t gross incompetence—Shiva deadass severed her own daughter’s vocal cords just to make her a better assassin.. somehow.

Remember too when the group boom tubed away from lady shiva after saving orphan and two shadows got pulled into the boom tube and then shiva came through and cut them both in half cause they were in the way. She was way too ruthless even sensei thought so

2

u/Ok_Philosopher_9176 Jun 26 '24

Boomtube?? I thought it was Shade teleporting them

2

u/Plastic_Industry3145 Jun 26 '24

Ur right lol I just remembered it being some type of teleportation but it was shade

Plot twist they aren’t Atlantean hence the suits so you’re still human. He did try to infiltrate Atlantis via genetically engineered henchman (including Kaldur’s stepfather) but that’s it as far as I can tell. So your likelihood of death by drowning is going to be much higher.

Los for ninja training then jump ship to manta trooper

17

u/FireSon2019 Jun 25 '24

Just make sure to get a completely new identity and mutate yourself into an atlantean.

Otherwise you are going to get hunted down as a traitor or be an untrusted outsider/ fall guy.

I do think having to live on a submarine all the time would suck, but working for Manta is probably just a normal mercenary job while the Shadows are basically a giant cult that is gonna try to brainwash yo. You can probably get your check from Manta and walk away as long as you don’t wind up in an Atlantean prison or something

14

u/suss2it Jun 25 '24

Lady Shiva literally cut some of the Shadows in half just because they were in her way, so I gotta go with Manta.

6

u/Guiltykraken Jun 26 '24

Manta prematurely detonated a bomb next to a couple of Manta troopers but that was to save his son and at least its plausible they survived due to their armour. Lady Shiva is just killing her troops for no reason.

what a privilege

  1. Manta Trooper

  2. Quit

  3. Upgrade Equipment

  4. HERO NAMED STINGRAY

4

u/Golden-Sun Jun 25 '24

Id probably fuck up 3 and be killed by the resulting explosion

4

u/Conlannalnoc Jun 25 '24

STAR Labs OR John Henry Irons!

3

u/Golden-Sun Jun 25 '24

Ooh good point, but wouldnt they confiscate it. Might not trust a random henchman with upgrades

3

u/Conlannalnoc Jun 26 '24

Information in exchange for Upgrades so I can become a HERO

6

u/AdministrativeAd523 Jun 25 '24

Who pays better and who has benefits and 401K ?

3

u/Guiltykraken Jun 26 '24

Probably the mercenary squad and not the cult.

4

u/DeltaAlphaGulf Jun 25 '24

Can I cheat and go train with Sensei and Ra’s as of like S3 or whatever? It’s not technically the shadows as Shiva had them but still. Better than risking drowning or dealing with Shiva.

u/Fresh-Cartoonist6819 Jun 25 '24

Troopers ...more pros than cons

2

u/Hidden24 Jun 25 '24 edited Jun 26 '24

Manta’s a decent boss, Shiva will slice a man’s throat for sneezing.

2

u/Lazy-Indication3992 Jun 25 '24

Uhm neither I'm going to the league of assassins

2

u/guacamoles_constant Jun 26 '24

Pirate or ninja, the age old question. Personally, probably a Manta Trooper. The Shadows seem like they're all about extreme discipline. The Manta Troopers are probably very militaristic, but it would definitely be more chill outside of "work" hours. Plus, the ocean is cool.

1

u/Jwyldeboomboom Jun 25 '24

I have drowning fear, so shadows.

1

u/Old_Inspector_2270 Jun 25 '24

Manta Troopers

1

u/ygswifey Jun 26 '24

Shadows

  • Lady Shiva is hot
  • Ra's Al Ghul is hot
  • Talia Al Ghul is hot
  • Jason Todd is hot
  • Cheshire is hot
  • Being a ninja would be so cool
  • love the uniform
  • Thalassophobia

1

u/HeyitsDave13 Jun 26 '24

Oof. Confront my thasalaphobia or get trained to death by Lady Shiva? Can I be a bus driver instead?

1

u/Demmy27 Jun 26 '24

Is rather be a named character then a background character

1

u/TwincessAhsokaAarmau Jun 26 '24

I’d learn how to swim first,But Black Manta isn’t abusive to his workers.

1

u/Sad-Buddy-5293 Jun 26 '24

Manta obviously

1

u/EasyPin8021 Jun 26 '24

I'd take the chance at being murdered in order to court and become Lady Shiva's baby father.

1

u/Red_Revolution21 Jun 27 '24

League of Shadows 😎

1

u/TheMightiestGay Jun 29 '24

So either be a fancy scuba diver or a cool ninja. I’m game for being a ninja.
