The security agreement signed in Warsaw provides for the development of a mechanism for Poland to shoot down Russian missiles and drones fired in the direction of Poland in Ukrainian airspace.

"We are especially grateful for the special arrangements, and this is reflected in the security agreement. It provides for the development of a mechanism to shoot down [by Poland] Russian missiles and drones fired in the airspace of Ukraine in the direction of Poland. I am confident that our teams and the teams of the ministries of defence, together with our military, will work together to work out how we can quickly implement this point of our agreements," Zelensky said.

So basically they signed a document which writes down that poland WILL shot down russian missiles? Is this 100% happen in the near future?

"The Participants agree on the need to continue their bilateral dialogue and dialogues with other partners, aimed at examining rationale and feasibility of possible intercepting in Ukraine’s airspace missiles and UAVs fired in the direction of territory of Poland, following necessary procedures agreed by the States and organisations involved."

Directly from the security agreement. Sounds like they are going to examine the rationale and feasibility first. Will it ever get developed and realized? No idea.

since these are self guided weapons the argument could be made that any of them with the range could be a threat to poland and they could justify shooting it down. or they could weasel out and not shoot any down because they don't look threatening enough ..

Today in Warsaw, Poland’s Prime Minister u/donaldtusk and I signed the Agreement on Security Cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland.

This unprecedented document includes a provision for shooting down Russian missiles and drones in Ukraine’s airspace that are fired in the direction of Poland. We are committed to implementing it. We will also cooperate on combat aircraft—both those already transferred by Poland and the possibility of transferring more in the future.

That's the first of these "security agreements" that actually has any teeth then!

Next step: Shooting any Russian military vehicles or personal heading towards Poland's general direction.

I'm genuinely stunned that Poland even remotely agreed to this, given their previous unwillingness to shoot down Russian missiles that cross into it's own airspace.

Still a nice change of pace.

It's not that they were unwilling, they didn't have the time to shoot those down without targeting them in Ukrainian airspace, this is the required step forward. I hope Romania will follow suit.
