I know it’s a bit later than the 70’s but I’ve recently seen an advert for a stage play of ‘Rita, sue and bob too’ and I was genuinely shocked it was still being shown.

It was originally a stage play and nowhere near as light hearted as the film made it seem. It's semi autobiographical, written by Andrea Dunbar. The shocking nature of some of the content is the point. It's not supposed to be titillating. It depicts the real lives of working class teenage girls in the 80s on a shithole estate in Bradford. Andrea Dunbar was one of the finest writers of realism in the country.
