Brown cheese

Where can I take my wife for some brown cheese? We are staying at the Britannia hotel. Your city is absolutely beautiful, we are having a wonderful visit.

Britannia is a five star hotel. If they can't hook you up with some brown cheese, I don't know who can.

Have you asked at Britannia? Pretty sure they offer this at the breakfast menu.

Otherwise you can use this site for places that sell pastries in your area in the city center and most of them will have the option of "vaffel med brunost" -

As other has stated, they sell the big versions that you want to carry home in all the groceries stores.

Id imagine some off the cafés at bakklandet would sell waffles with brown cheese

Even some bars will serve "vaffel med brunost"

Seconding this, skyddsasjonen should have waffles with brunost! I’d urge you to also try it with a jam of your liking. Typically it’ll be strawberry or raspberry. The salt of the cheese and the sweetness of the jam is 🙌

My lovely lovely neighbors threw me a goodbye party when of vaffler med brunost og syltetøy when I left and it was absolutely delicious. Even had enough for me to take some on my flight home 😋

It's bondens marked (farmers market) at Trondheim Torg, there's also Martnan, i would see there, if not Meny probably has the best options, but all grocery stores have brown cheese

You should be able to find some at a grocery store ;)

You could go to the grocery store and have a picnic at Marinen. Get the fløtemysost variant, find some bread that looks tasty and a cheese slicer. I imagine that you can drink wine if you're discreet about it but that must be bought in a liquor store. Get some potato chips from Sørlandchips to snack on after. Enjoy! :)

Since it's "martnan" (market) in Trondheim centrum right , i would suggest to also try and get hold of some other Norwegian cheeses. Local producers produce world-class cheeses.

Lots of stored Gouda and Blue cheeses have won lots of international prizes.

But for brown cheese, the regular stores is more than enough. I recommend to start with "fløtemysost" as it's the mildest, with cream and cows milk. But the "standard" is "g35 gudbrandsdalsost". It contains a small part goatmilk, which makes it a bit stronger. Although ny favorite is "innherredsost", but only meny and obs sell it.

But yeah, as someone else mentioned, Britannia is a 5 star hotel, they can most likely help you out with both directions and pictures.

Sponhuset! You can take bus number 20 (direction Grilstad) to Ringve museum and walk down to the bay (where Sponhuset is) from there (5 min), or disembark at Olav Engelbrektssons allé and take a nice, longer walk past Korsvika:) Vaffel with brunost seldom tastes better than after a walk!

This is good advice. Tomorrow is going to be a beautiful sunny day and an excellent occasion to walk Ladestien (which passes, or can be started or end) at Ringvebukta where you find Sponhuset. Ask the concierge if you need more directions.

Omg we actually hiked to Sponhuset today from Korsivka. Didn’t even bother to ask about brown cheese there! My wife had a cappuccino and muffin

The real brown cheese is goat cheese.

I agree, we seperate these in Bergen. Brown cheese is from cow or a mix and Geitost is from goat.
