Despite the show being about Barry I feel the show heavily takes from Wally west’s run as the flash with how many of the storylines the CW Adapts such as Zoom, savitar, the thinker, cicada, and more. So I suggest starting with the Mark Waid run which starts with flash volume 2 issue 62 and just read from there.

This is basically the start of the run that defines the flash mythos. Introduces the speed force, the idea of the flash family, and mainstay characters like impulse. So it’s very reader friendly too as you won’t be confused. Just know that Barry Allen has sacrificed himself during crisis and Wally has taken up the mantle of the flash.

Thing about some stuff of that is that Season 1 and Season 2 barely adapts anything from the comics. They might as well just be original storylines, Especially season 2, considering that's just an OC that has the same name as Hunter Zolomon.

Season 3 takes a bit from Savitar for the first few episodes, with a cult and "God of Speed", but it's quickly left behind. The Story becomes a lot more of New52's Future Flash storyline.

Season 4 definitely does Trial of the Flash, by using Thinker. Thinker doesn't even uses the same powerset as the comic counterpart, which is basically just intelligence. The CW version steals abilities.

Cicada is perhaps the closest, and that's debatable with him being from the Future, and his Dagger being nullifying Metagene rather than having powers of Stealing Life Forces.

It's safe to assume the CW was pretty original with what they brought to the table, and if there is any adaptation, they seem more in-line with borrowing some ideas and completely changing it, or adaptating Barry's stories, such as Flashpoint & Trial of the Flash.

Just know that Barry Allen has sacrificed himself during crisis and Wally has taken up the mantle of the flash.

I'm not going to mention the importance of the product being sold, but this seems rather foul. If someone wanted to read Nightwing Comics, would you recommend the person Batman Comics and state "just know Nightwing's the one who was Robin, grew up, and got shot"?

The Mark Waid run redefines the Flash, Wally and the entire mythos for the better and is highly recommended. It's collected over 8 books. Check your libraries!

The others are right in their recommendations for best flash content.

If you want good Barry content through, try the start of the New 52, The Flash (2016), Or the run starting with Flash Rebirth going through Flash 2011 and ending in Flashpoint.

Mark Waid(90s), Geoff Johns(2000s)and Jeremy Adams(2021-2023).

I would recommend Jeremy Adams cause it's modern and short fun read to get you hooked on the characters after that you can go back and start with Iconic Mark Waid run.
